1st visit to The Yarn Barn: I walked in and inquired about Noro Yarn (my absolute favorite) and received the response in an unnerving loud rude tone "Um, we WON'T and DON'T deal with Noro, the distributor is difficult and they don't care." A simple "sorry, we don't carry Noro but let me show you some comparable yarns" would have sufficed. I went on to buy a skein of sale yarn and, without asking, was abruptly told that they would not wind the skein because it was sale ($2 off of >$25)
2nd visit: In an upbeat attitude, I asked if the sales rep (same rep as the first trip) to point me in the direction of their supply of sock yarns. She assisted me by showing me the area as well as what each brand had to offer. I was thrilled that she wasn't obtuse and rude this time around and thrilled that I was on my way to my new project. Once she was done, I told her that I didn't need to be shown the books or patterns, but asked her if she could recommend the title of a good book for a novice sock knitter. She took me to the book section and went over many different options. I selected my items and checked out. Upon leaving, I notice the same sales rep sitting with another working on, what I believe to be inventory. I waved goodbye to them and told them to have a nice night. I was on a knitting high! The other rep responded Im sorry, if you didnt get full attention tonight and I responded, no worries, she helped me a lot with finding what I needed (motioning to the sales rep that helped me that was sitting next to her). I hear that woman say to the other woman in a loud rude voice thats FOR SURE! It truly hurt my heart. I never asked her to spend a bunch of time with me, mainly just location guidance. I felt like I had really put her out. It was that same nastiness I received from the first visit. After spending a rather large amount of money in their store and then a comment insinuating that I had consumed too much of her time, was just a stab in the back.

I first discovered the Yarn Barn in Lawrence, KS. in 1973, and though I've shopped for yarn all over the country, I still come back to them...even on-line. Their selection is top notch, the staff is knowledgeable and friendly, the shop atmosphere stimulates creativity, and their pricing discount structure is competitive. When I can get back to KS. I make them a designated stop. They are worth the trip!

The selection at Yarn Barn is excellent, the employees are knowledgeable, and they offer a variety of classes every season in knitting, crochet, weaving, and spinning. They carry supplies for all of these crafts. It's also nice that they will wind purchased hanks of yarn into balls - it's a nice touch that many yarn stores don't offer.

The Yarn Barn is hands-down the best yarn store I have ever been to. It is located in downtown Lawrence and offers a huge selection of yarns and other needlework accessories. The Yarn Barn also offers many classes for the beginner or the professional. The employees are very knowledgeable and friendly.

This a great place for beginners and experienced needleworkers, knitters, and crafters. They have a friendly staff that will help you find exactly what you are looking for. What a great selection, they have every color under the sun, and in every size and quanitity. A little pricey, but worth it for the great products! They also offer classes for those interested!

An amazing and elaborate collection of some of the finest cashmere and angora yar. They carry yarn spun from a variety of other materials, spinning wheels, knitting and crochet supplies. They are relatively expensive but worth the price if you are an enthusiast. They are actually known in the area as a fine yarn store.
