Merle's Place

Merle's is great. I play poker there on Mondays and Saturdays. The beer is cheap, and the food is good and inexpensive. The staff is very friendly too.

My wife and I have ate at Merle's for years. Their sandwiches are wonderful and they have cheap, cold beer to accompany them. However, once the city implemented the smoking laws, Merle's sadly opted to remain a smoking establishment, thus preventing my family from eating there anymore, as my two children are no longer allowed in.

Apparently the ownership at Merle's felt that catering to a dwindling population of 21st century smokers was more important than taking the progressive route and banning smoking all-together. But, I suppose you can hardly blame them if they feel it's more economical this way.

The good news is that the Artichoke on Murdock and Broadway offers even better sandwiches and beer and they did decide to go smoke-free, which means my children can legally enter the establishment and eat.

I love Merles Place. This is an excellent hole-in-the-wall place with very good food and kind of a bar-type atmosphere. The food is excellent and while it isn't really a good place for say, a business lunch, it is a wonderful place to hang out with friends and have a good late supper and a good time.
