I LOVE THIS CHURCH
by Shane P.
This church is by far the greatest church I've ever been to. They truly preach the gospel of grace and love. They show you that Jesus desires to have a relationship with you and that He truly will leave the 99 to find you.
I always wanted to be apart of a giving church and I finally found one. They give countless thousands to missions and if your ever running short on food they will be the first to tell you to come and pick some up from the food pantry.
Before going to this church I didn't even have a close relationship with God but the preaching of Pastor Purkey have given me the insight into stepping into a closer relationship with my Savior.
I have always dealt with fear. My whole life has been consumed by it - but now I am able to take authority over that fear and live a free life. I can't even begin to express the gratitude that is in my heart for this church.
The staff at Lenexa Christian Center is by far the most friendly and down to earth people I have ever met. In some churches the staff has this "better than you attitude" but this staff will do anything for you.
I have noticed that some people say this church is all about money and they mention it alot. I guess I have a different perspective. I don't feel like this church is after my money at all. I'm glad to pay my tithe to this house of God. I have learned that if we truly want to reach people and tell others about Jesus it's going to take money. This church supports hundreds of missionaries and without the giving from the people they would not be able to stay out on the mission field. I have truly learned what it means "it's better to give than receive."
There are alot of great churches in the Johnson County area. I thinks it's great that you can find a church that fit's your style and this is the one for me.
Even though some might consider this a mega church it really has a small feel to it. Every time I walk through the doors the greeters are so friendly to me and make me feel right at home.
Once again I can't say how much I love this church!! If you are truly looking for a place where you can feel the presence of God look no more!

My Lenexa Christian Center Experience
by Chris A.
I went to Lenexa Christian Center as a kid. Lenexa Christian Center is probably the reason I'm an atheist.
Not only is it a den of hypocrisy, where money is the usual concern and those who cannot pay their dues are cast out of the congregation, a place where concern for the next building precedes concern for the people that listen so faithfully to the message preached to them by the aristocratic pastors and authority figures, the place was rife with corruption, with decisions made behind peoples backs and unfair treatment of employees.
The sick thing about the whole system was that everyone who went was so bought in by the glorious ivory towers built up around them, the beautiful fake plants and the L.C.D screens, and haranguing messages of the "upper class" members. Some people I would consider victims were convinced they were the wrongdoers; I'm sure any attorney of law would say otherwise. If anyone dissented, you could be sure there was a sermon about it. Most people that would speak up left because their credibility would be shattered next Sunday anyway. The majority of the congregation were blind to the shady, underground politics of that building, blinded by the glory of L.C.C.
The message itself is nothing but finger pointing and of fear. The fires of hell were a favorite focus, which were often worked into sermons about the dissenters. If God really existed and was the being L.C.C. described, I would be too concerned about my soul being held hostage to worship the being I was supposed appease daily. It always seemed odd to me that they would preach fear of the lord as well as love of the lord. I don't see how that is a message of love, it sounds more like a speech about Stalin now that I look back on it. Towards the end, some of the messages and guest preaching got stranger and stranger, often entering into the realm of the surreal. "Healers" would come and work miracles and then tell people their faltering faith was the reason for "miracle" being reversed on their next visit. I remember one video we were shown during the sort of "young teen sermon" (an early Sunday morning version of their older teen sermon, called oneighty) of a pastor claiming he had visited heaven, and boy did he tell a fantastic story. It was probably a little before this moment some red flags appeared, but after this, the sirens were blaring in my head. The sermons continued to get more fantastical and the messages more harsh.
Fear of homosexuality, hatred of different cultures and denominations, and brainwashing were the faculties of Lenexa Christian Center. When we finally left that place, I was disillusioned with religion. We visited various churches, at the behest of my parents. The only church I respect was the exact opposite.
Though I no longer believed in the god they preached about, their message was more loving than any that could be found at a mega church. They preached the love of Jesus Christ, and while the fires of hell were still mentioned but they weren't held over the heads of the congregation, and rarely was there any reason for "dissenter" in the congregation; the personal search for god and helping others realize the love of their god through kindness was their focus, and coupled with its relatively small size, created great unity and understanding.
The pastors of this church know I'm an atheist, but instead of jamming their message down my throat, they respect my decision but also "offer their message" I would say, reminding me that if I need "spiritual guidance" I can go to them. They offer me more kindness more often then not and fellowship, they still help my family when it's in need. And the people from that small church had a real passion for god, which they would channel into helping the community, instead of preaching, preaching, and more preaching about the fires of hell and the sins everyone else around them commits. I have since grown up and moved away, but I still remain in contact.
I haven't spoke up about this for a long time. Honestly sometimes I'm a little afraid of them, but that's what happens when you have someone lead you around on a mental leash for more years than you can remember. Places like Lenexa Christian Center change people for the worst. The regulars in my experience were more loyal to the church and pastor Purkey; Yahweh himself could come down and tell everyone they were wrong and they would deny it, I still can only describe it as "brainwashing". Everyone I know that went there that I still keep in contact with went through similar situations, and either ultimately lost faith in the christian god, , or now see Lenexa Christian Center for what it is, the same temple Jesus was so angry at in the gospels for turning religion into industry and harboring thieves of men's trust and opportunists who prey on men's ignorance.

men and brethren: i want to say that YES it is the responsability of the people who claim to love JESUS, to help our christian brothers and sisters when they have a legitimate need. the LORD gave us two commandments that all the LAW and the PROPHETS hang on and that is "LOVE GOD with all your heart, mind, soul and strength and LOVE your neighbour as yourself" luke 10: 27. and " as we therefore now have opportunity, let us do good unto all men,but especially unto them that are of the HOUSEFOLD of FAITH". gal. 6: 10. in deut. chapter 15 GOD commands the congregation to tithe 10% of all their increase and for the priests to take 10% of the tithes for themselves and put the other 90% in the storehouse to be used to give to any man who had a need. the churches today are in rebellion and refuse to obey the commandments of GOD. me and my family have been treated with the same disrespect and distain ,by many people [over 30 yrs.] who claim to be walking in the LOVE and PERFECT WILL OF GOD. well the LORD said to LOVE not in WORD only , but in DEED ALSO. I have seen so much hiprocacy in the churches that it makes you sick. foregive us LORD for turning our backs on the poor and needy. don

LCC is a great church. Some may have had a not so pleasant experience in some churches. I encourage everyone to be forgiving and know that no one or church is perfect and that it is not our place to judge others without knowing the full story. Everyone has an opinion. It's often wise to be silent and let God handle the situation.

Christians w/ Entitlement Issues...
by Anonymous
I'm sorry but the church is not a place to abuse and use for handouts. The Church is not there to pay your bills, school loans, fix your car, act as your personal driver, put your kids through college, and cater to your every need. Can you imagine if the Church was assumed to pay for everyone's bills in the Church? Some Christians need a good dose of humilty and accountability. Donnita have you ever considered this rejection you experienced was a test from God to reveal what was in your heart which was pride and offense? Did you reach out to any of the choir members and other believers I would assume you befriended with all your yrs at the church? It is rare to go to any church and not have a chance to be offended at some point even by the pastor himself. If you read the gospels you will see Jesus did not give everyone everything they thought they needed but told them the truth. Let go of the pride and offense because trust me life goes on and so the kingdom of God.

Family
by Lisa J.
I am a single mother of four children. I work very hard to be involved in the choir at Lenexa Christian Center and be involved in other activities. This church is nothing but family to me they have blessed me and my children in many, many ways. This church is blessed because Pastor Mike and Mary have a heart to give. They don't just take. They teach us how to give by being givers themselves. Not just of money but they give their their time and love. They are truly the best Spiritual Father and Mother anyone could ask for. If you want a safe haven to come to and you a shepard that won't lead you astray come visit us at Lenexa Christian Center. It is a place where men, women, and children can meet God face to face.

LENEXA CHRISTIAN CENTER IS NOT HOW JESUS WOULD ACT:
by DONNITA M.
Yes it may be true that Pastor Purkey is funny, but there is more to preaching the word and actually acting up on that word...He doesn't practice what he preaches... My family and I WERE active in the church and had been there for 5 years. My daughter and I WERE in the choir and my husband WAS an usher, until the transmission went out of our car and we had no money to pay for it right away, so we called the church to ask if someone could pick us up on WED nights, since my husband works nights, My daughter, son and I needed a ride to church and they told us they didn't have anyway of picking us up...I explained if Pastor Mary, choir director, could or would make an announcement or just pray that maybe, out of the kindness of their heart could give me and my children a ride to the church to choir practice...Lenexa Christian Center stated that they would not be able to accommodate us in our situation....But yet they want us to make payments on the Family Life Center that was just built...Also in order to go to the Family Life Center and workout, there is a monthly charge just like go to 24 hour fitness or Bally's....This is A FOR PROFIT CHURCH.......This is not what Jesus would Do! He would do his best to help those in NEED....Only CERTAIN MEMBERS GET HELP WHEN THEY NEED IT, and Pastor Purkey and Staff Members only associate with Certain Cliques "Exclusive Groups" a close group of friends or colleagues having similar interests and goals, and whom outsiders regard as excluding them, THIS HOW PASTOR MARY AND PASTOR PURKEY and STAFF are towards certain membersSo You make the decision to go to a EXTREMELY LARGE church where they only want your money or you can go to GODLY church that actually wants to be like JESUS-LOVING and COMFORTING....because if you want that......DO NOT GO TO LENEXA CHRISTIAN CENTER....They only want your 10% and then some.............
PROS: POOR OUTREACH ASSISTANCE FOR MEMBERS
CONS: GREAT CHOIR, LOVE THE CHOIR AND TRULY MISS THE CHOIR

No Watered Down Gospel Here

Lenexa Christian Center is a back-to-the-basics, full gospel church. Many churches today water down the gospel in an effort to attract those who are unchurched - not wanting to offend anyone with the Truth. LCC, however, does NOT do this.
LCC is a large congregation, yet there are opportunities to be involved in smaller groups and ministries. Missions is a huge priority for this pastor ... giving a great deal of financial and spiritual support to missionaries world wide.
You will find something for every family member at Lenexa Christian Center .. and God will meet each family member right where they are!
