Ratings_icons Would not use ever again!

Mike P.

I would not use this company again. My house received storm related damage in May 2008. I should have been suspicious when they took 3 weeks to get started on the work that should have been underway in less than 1 week. This company was recommended by insurance company (AM FAM) as being the best. One major problem included not obtaining a building permit from KCMO Codes. There were times where work was not underway due to subcontractor issues. I ended up having to contact sub contractors myself and get them working.Workmanship was okay as long as I was there every day watching their every move. I paid for them to do it without my oversight.Hard time finishing out the project. I had to push them every day to get it finished. When they wouldnt give me a firm date in writing I gave them the completion date.Hard to get firm pricing on additional work. Only got the price once the work was done. Not a good way to do business. The field superintendent was qualified and got things done. The project manager (Mark H) couldnt seem to respond to things in a timely manner.Based on my experience I would NOT use them again or recommend them to anyone I trust.

Ratings_icons Reviewing "reviews"

Stu V.

Damage Control & Restoration, Inc. (DCR) has repaired over 1000 homes and businesses since the earliest (11/05) review posted on "insiderpages". DCR has served more than 5000 property owners since its inception in 1989.
Links to "insiderpages" may be the first and only on-line source for some victims of circumstance seeking honest information regarding the performance and reliability of a well established leader in the property insurance claims repair industry.
It is unfortunate that this terrific website, designed to help its members and visitors draw intelligent conclusions about local businesses, products, and services, can inherently allow damaging and spiteful "reviews" to be posted without validation or rebuttal. In defense of our hard earned reliable reputation, we would like to urge serious prospective customers to obtain honest references from a more representative sampling of past and current DCR customers by calling (913) 722-0228 or by contacting the Better Business Bureau at (816) 421-7800.
Once explored, a little research would reveal a history of service, sacrifice, and dependability rewarded by partnerships in preferred contractor programs with major insurance companies who warrant the satisfaction of DCR customers for extended periods of up to five years.
Scores of grateful homeowners have indicated a willingness to share their positive experiences, delight in examples of home improvements, and express their security in the confidence of knowing that the repairs managed by DCR will maintain their quality standards long after the ink has dried on their Certificates of Satisfaction.
We respect the efforts in searching for helpful information to choose a contractor that can offer such confidence.
We understand the stressful and confusing circumstances surrounding the loss of, or damage to, people's homes.
We are thankful for those curious and cautious researchers who take the time to fully evaluate DCR's credentials and commitment.

Ratings_icons Unethical; Unreliable

Brian C.

We just recently had a sewer back up and are still dealing with Damage Control and their representative Mark Hageman. They've severely misrepresented their ability to be ethical or credible. He Ignored replacing insulation that was mildewed; Claimed that a second claim would be necessary to correct a "Black Mold" problem that was a result of our water damage.

Ratings_icons shady, horrible company. DO NOT HIRE IN ANY EVENT

John W.

what a horrible situation Damage Control has put a single mother of two in, her house burns down and every single thing They touched was done incorrectly to the point to where they were FIRED FROM THE JOB AND A HUGE FINANCIAL LOSS WAS BETTER TO TAKE ON v.s. letting them completely screw anymore up. It cost an additional 50% for me to correct the work that they started. AND this poor family was forced to live in a rental apartment for an additional 6 months! while my company had to fight to get the money to finish fix and correct the job! inflated rates! Poor workmanship. incompetent idiots. they owe a lot of money and shouldn't be allowed to work legally.

Ratings_icons Damage Control's lack of effort and follow through is just too much

Chuck Q.

They seemed like they would be a good company to fix up my house after the fire. Our insurance adjuster brought Damage Control's rep, Mark Higaman, with her when she came to inspect the fire damage. They started off pretty good, came in redid the ceilings, and repainted the walls the house was starting to get back to normal. Then we started having trouble. We were wanting to get the stove replaced ASAP, but they ordered one that didn't fit. Then it took another 3 weeks to get one that did fit. Painters slopped paint on our wood work and then said "That paint is not from us, we're professionals". Getting our mini-blinds replaced was another problem. We had bought these blinds from Home Depot 6-8 month prior to the fire. Damage Control wanted to replace them with some cheap off the shelf blinds. We went back to Home Depot got our original receipt and told Damage Control these are the blinds we want. We want what we had. They couldn't even copy the order correctly. We got different valances for our blinds and they wanted us to just stick with what we got because it would cost them to reorder the valances. Home Depot got the correct valances for us at no charge.

PROS: Good thing they work w/ Am Fam, they could stay in business otherwise
CONS: Not very organized, trouble finishing the job

Ratings_icons Awful!

Janna H. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 8,611

This company redid a house of ours and did the worst job ever! They just slapped up some clean paint and didn't bother to fix any of the understuff. Just a few examples of what they did wrong include a crooked garage door, a loose joist, and unfinished soffit, a really crummy paint job w/o prepping the house first, and last but certainly not least, a 2 foot square hole in the basement floor through which we got several inches of water until we found it hidden under something. Avoid at all costs!
