Generally I have been pleased with the food and service at this particular Outback Steakhouse. However, I have had a two bad experiences there. One was when the only seating was at the bar, and there was an extremely drunken individual insulting my wife. First I asked the bartender to remove the man, but he said he did not have that authority. I asked for a manager and it took well over 5 minutes for her to respond, while we had to endure constant harassment from the drunk. I had to stand up and yell for the manager before she came and removed the guy.
The other incident was from the drive up take out. I live 5 minutes from there. The bread was hard enough to break a tooth, the order was not complete, and when I called to complain, the manager offered a gift certificate that she never sent.
All of that aside, the steaks are good quality, cooked as requested, and the lobster tails are fresher tasting than any seafood restaurant in Kansas City except for the Lobster Pot. The service is good and the servers are pleasant and friendly. The prices are high, but the quality of the food keeps me going back (Not to this location).

Outback
by StephW1214
I agree that Outback is a great restaurant. The service is always top notch, and friendly. However, I think the best Outback in Kansas City is the one located at Quivira and 95th street. You may have to wait a bit, but there food is great.
Pros: Fairly inexpensive, Great Service, Call Ahead Seating
Cons: Crowded, Not much parking

New Zealand Lamb
by bucco
Simply put, Outback's New Zealand lamb entre is the best dish on the planet in my humble opionion. There is no need to eat anywhere else or order anything else because nothing else compares to this incredible dish!!
Pros: Lamb, Lamb, Lamb
Cons: lamb shortage

BEST STEAK.. OUTBACK?
by HortonHeat
Umm.. No. This is a hugh mistake to put a chain restaurant in this catagory. Kansas City is known for their steaks. The beef in the Midwest is unsurpassed. Their are many other Steak Houses in KC that deserve this more than Outback. Granted this is a very nice place to eat. The service is wonderful. The atmosphere is very nice as well. The steaks are even really good. But not the best in KC.

What a Steak???
by rdlphd
I was very disappointed in the steak I had- tough, not prepared to order, very little taste. As a steak house it does not compete with many of the others in KC. It was not high price, but the quality was below the value. I would not recommend it.
Pros: Quick seating, Inexpensive
Cons: Quality of meat

Too Far North
by jahepcat
Having only dined at the Outback at the Chouteau exit off of I-35, at the fabulous Target strip mall, I can only comment that this was good but not worth the ticket price. The service wasn't up to par either.
I wasn't explained about the rub they use on their steaks and found it annoying and distracted from the rib eye's flavor. My children enjoyed their chicken, but they enjoy anything. Again, another chain, although better than Longhorn, and chain mentality, i.e. mess hall economics posing as a higher level of dining.
Pros: Interesting menu, friendly staff, relatively clean
Cons: over priced, get rid of that rub, push desert/drinks

Where's the Cook?
by sallyjust
Maybe the cook was sick that day, but the steak was terrible. Rare in the middle and BURNT on the outside. It was nothing that I had asked for, nor expected. I will never order steak from Outback again.

have these people been to KC?
by fritzybaby99
To say that Outback is one of the best steak houses in Kansas City is to say that anyone can make Barbeque better than Jack Stacks...if you are from KC you know better than to try and beat our barbeque. Obviously these people didnt try too hard to find a good steak house because I can get an outback steak in almost all 50 steaks, but in KC, you shouldnt go to a national chain to get a good steak, you should look in your back yard to find something better.

Outback is pootsie
by defender90expert
There is no way that Outback is one of the top 10 steaks in Kansas City. The meat quality is poor and badly seasoned. Way too much pepper is used to season and on the fries there is too much salt. There is no atmosphere except blue collar idiots with no palete for good steak. I can't believe J Gilberts is behind outback that is heresy.

sorry excuse for a steakhouse
by skpieper_79
anyone who thinks Outback has the best steaks in town, needs to try Ruth's Chris Steakhouse, The Capitol Grille, and/or The Classic Cup. After trying one of those three restaurants, if you still think Outback is better, there's no help for you. go back to your trailor with Outback Takeout and enjoy.
Pros: Cheap, cheap, Cheap
Cons: obnoxious atmosphere, cheap pieces of meat, expensive cocktails

Chains Can't Compete For Quality
by racambab
As a national chain, Outback does a pretty good job perhaps the best for providing quality in its class as a steakhouse. Certainly far better than Longhorn, Lonestar or Houstons. Yet, Outback is not American in its approach. The quality of meat is erratic too. Several steaks I've had were tough and stringy. Have had a couple of really good steaks. Mostly, we now only go for the bloomin' onion, which is superb. Just go to Outback for a sandwich and a the bloomin onion. Service at all area locations we had, held a condescending attitude which we found offensive.
Pros: Bloomin Onion Great
Cons: Condescending waiters

Yuck
by PreyTime
Oh, wow, if this is one of KC's 10 best, we're in real trouble. The steak was tough, the service was awful ,,, and my husband is disabled, they led us around forever before deciding on a table.
