This is a must see in Kentucky. Great learning experience for increasing knowledge of Kentucky Horse Racing. Clean, fun filled, staff is friendly and the shop is awesome. Watching the videos you feel literally like you are at the track.

The museum is a top notch site for learning more about the world of horse racing. Pictures, documents and other memorabilia are available for you to see. A gift shop that is well stocked with many items for sale about Churchill Downs.

This is a fun place to visit. I think it would bore little kids though, but for older ones who enjoy this type of history, it would be a good place to visit. If you're visiting, it's definitely a nice touristy thing to do. You get to see Churchill Downs too which is fun. The admission prices are reasonable. A fun rainy day outing!

Ratings_icons Learn More about a Great Kentucky Museum

Horse racing and Kentucky are synonymous, so if you're in town you have to check out the Kentucky Derby Museum. It's wonderful to learn more about the history of the "sport of kings." There are tons of exhibits that showcase these beautiful animals, plus their talented jockeys and trainers!

I especially enjoy the tour of Churchill Downs. It's such a beautiful place, especially since they've done all the recent renovations. The tour was the first way I experienced the Downs and there's an indescribable feeling watching horses race at the most famous race track in the world with the gorgeous spires right behind you!

Ratings_icons Definitely worth a visit

I highly recommend this museum to visitors and residents of Louisville. I've been going here since I was a teenager and I really enjoy it. They have many things to do and see and I even got to step onto the track of Churchill Downs, very exciting! I think even those who aren't very 'into' horses would enjoy visiting it.

Ratings_icons Interesting and enjoyable

We vistited the Derby Museum this past summer and really enjoyed it. It is kind of pricy unless you love horses and the world of racing but well worth the ticket price. The ticket also allows you to view a race from the fence. The museum had many interactive exhibits and featured a 360 degree movie on a huge screen. They did offer AAA discount which was nice. A museum you should definitly visit at least once.

The Kentucky Derby Museum is located right next to Louisville's historic and world known Churchill Downs. The museum is the best known collection, in my opinion, of Derby memorabilia that you can find anywhere. With your tour, you can watch a short film that gives you a better insight of the historical significance of the Derby ( race facts, horses, jockeys, etc.) Once the film is over, you can walk around the museum and actually see a "replica" of a horse. When I went, you could sit on the horse and have someone take your picture if you brought your own camera. Hopefully this has not changed. I also believe that they offer free parking on days that are not race days at the track.
