The bardstown rd location is awful.
Do not go there.
Preston is much better.
I'll tell you of an awful experience at bardstown and I will NEVER go back for any reason.
I purchased 10 CDs from preston highway and brought them to bardstown to trade them in because it was closer to me to go there.
The guy looked at me rudely and said he couldnt take any of them because they were too scratched up! I explained to him kindly that i ACTUALLY bought them from you yesterday so how are you going to sell something thats "scratched" and then not take them back in. I was the one who was being nice, because i could have just taken the receipt in and just got 10 new CDs, but i didnt because i felt it would have been rude to take something back after ripping the albums to my itunes account. But now i have no sympathy for them. The guy even accused me of not buying them from them in the first place, and i showed him where all the tags sticky residue was on EVERY album that i ripped off. This guy was nerdy as hell and he laughed at me after i did this. Another "dude" behind the counter who looked like a chick laughed in my face in front of another customer after this!! I was so embarassed for him and myself that he would act this way in front of CUSTOMERS. because of this experience i went home, got the receipt and made a full exchange at preston. Bardstown road has rude staff, along with a BTCH manager named natalie who seems to get irritated every time the phone rings. (they all do) DO YOUR FCKING JOB. QUIT STANDING BEHIND THE COUNTER AND GOSSIPING. or find someone else who is capable of it. a lot of people would kill to work there. but because of this incident, ill find another store who actually appreciates my frequent business.
There are three BME's in Louisville, Kentucky, of which I frequent all three.
The New Cut Road Store is my favorite due to their lack of arrogance, huge space and large amount of books in comparison to the other stores. (they have buy one get one free hardbacks), but they seem to have less sci-fi at this store than the Bardstown Road location. DVD's and box sets are as much as $10-$15 cheaper at this location than Preston and Bardstown. However, due to their large amount of books they do not accept any published after 2003 as of the writing of this review.
Preston Hwy. sells current comic books which is great due to their large selection (though I dislike how they are stowed on the shelves as it bends the corners with them sitting straight up). They are really lacking on books at this location. Their softcover shelves were half empty, and they had only two double shelves of hardbacks.
Bardstown Road is notorious for their bad attitude and employees who sit at the front counter gossiping. However, this location has the largest selection. The comics at this location are also a total and complete mess.I would not sell back to this location as they give the lowest offers, but rather to the other two, especially New Cut.
Overall BME is great because it's a local business and tend sto have a good selection of popular used, and retro items with several locations in different parts of town. I wish they had more books, and offered better prices for DVD's as they tend to start out @ $12.99, whereas Half-Price Books (a recent newcomer to the Louisville market) starts DVDs at $5.99.
Not really sure where Chase B got the impression that the store at 5400 Preston was better in any way shape or form. I went in there and the prices were ridiculous. In some instances they were twice as high on the same DVD sold on Bardstown RD. There were no buy 5 for 20 deals on the DVD's like the ones at the Highlands and when I asked the manager why there was such a difference in prices between the two stores he angrily snapped back at me and said "Some of us just don't make as much money as others!" No way in hell would I ever set foot in the one at 5400 Preston ever again.Smelled bad in there too.
The rating I give above is for the store in the Highlands. They were always friendly, helpful, and a nice selection of used DVD's.
My rating for the store at 5400 Preston Hwy is 1 star.
Ok, this place is good for buying used books, but selling items is crap! They only gave me a few dollars for comics i knew to be worth more, but im strapped for cash. Also, dont sell any rare games...stick to ebay. They will knowingly look you in the eye and rip you off!!!!!!!!!

I loved to browse the Highlands Book and Music Exchange regularly when I lived in Louisville. The Book & Music Exchange offered the best prices on used books. I also great trade in values for bringing in CDs and books. Its definitely worth checking out this store on a regular basis to see what new stuff they have to offer. The store itself has an "Empire Records" type feel as everyone is very ecclectic!
PROS: Cheap used books
CONS: Parking can be difficult to find at times
Book & Music Exchange is a great place to trade or sell your paperback books, cds, or computer games. They do not give much money for your items. I believe it was ten cents per book the last time I went there. The best thing to do is trade in your stuff for something in their store. The selection of paperback books is pretty good, although you probably will not find any hard to find books but then you never know what might pop up. The cd selection is okay. The store is bright and fairly clean. The employees are sociable, but are not really familiar with what items are in the store. Prices are good. Parking can be a problem. You must drive around the street looking for a spot on the road.
If your like me and love to read, you can go through books pretty fast. But it gets to expensive to keep buying new books. This place is great! You can take in your books for them to buy from you and buy there cheap used books as well, and when your done reading them, just take it right back to get you another! They also buy the cds you no longer listen to as well. A great way to get rid of things your not reading or listening to and get ones that are wanting to read!! Great quiet place. Small, but nice!
they are very cheap and have great service but still only have top notch books trading cards games movies and stuff like that they also host magic the gathering tournaments as well as yugioh tournaments. you can also come in pick up a book off the shelve and sit down on there couches and read, mangas and stuff like that.
It's not a large place, but you can find a variety of books, music and more here. They've been a staple in the highlands area for a long time and people go back again and again.
A great place to get rid of your books and music that you no longer need. You can exchange them in for trade and get something they have. The exchange rate will vary and the more popular of an item, the more you'll get. You'll see a lot of different things and you'll probably find something you will like. When your done just bring them back and get something else.
You can also buy items and the prices are affordable and they run buy 4/5 for x amount all the time.
PROS: Prices, Service and selection
