The NOMA is a decent art museum, but it can't stack up to those found in Chicago, San Diego, New York, San Fran, etc. Still, it has a good permanent collection and some travelling exhibitions, although it seems that the big "blockbuster" travelling exhibitions don't usually stop here.

The New Orleans Museum of Art (NOMA for short) houses over 40,000 objects valued over $200 million. A lot of the collection start from the 1300s all the way to the present.

The Museum does its best to preserve works of art from ancient to modern times. The different cultures and time periods are such a fascinating study into the history of civilization. It's easy to lose track of time, so plan your day early when approaching this place.

As an artist, it's such a treat to witness the marvels of mankind and to be able to record it as I did when I brought my sketchpad with me (a big plus).

The Museum Shop offers a huge selection for all ages ranging from books, jewelery, gifts, cards, games, and even some unique items showcasing special exhibits that take place during that duration.

A new Sculpture Garden has been added to this already impressive place.

Overall, this is a great place to learn about culture and history by way of the arts.

PROS: Incredible establishment, fascinating pieces of work
CONS: none

The Museum is beautiful. It's a huge building and has special exhibits at least 3 to 4 times a year. It held the King Tut exhibition in 1977 as well as artist like Degas. It also displayed a Voodoo exhibit. Not only does it have special exhibits but it has a stable of African art, glass art, and faberge eggs. Handicapped accessible.

A jewel of a museum which gives any visitor insight into Louisiana's visual history. Plus decent European and Asian collections - a beautiful city park setting.

If you've never visited NOMA, you have really missed a treat. The collections are amazing and broad in scope. The glass collection alone is well worth the price. Then add in the wonderful photography collection and the Faberge and don't forget the paintings, decorative arts, orientalia and precolumbian collections.
