In Short
Boomerangs, Aussie flags, kangaroo portraits and faux aboriginal art honor the homeland's wilderness, but Outback delivers a polished version of rusticity with varnished blond-wood booths with matching wainscoting and casually uniformed waitstaff. Besides more than a half-dozen cuts of steak, diners can pick from large-portioned entrees like ribs, chops and shrimp or chicken "on the barbie." The Bloomin' Onion, a large onion dipped in batter and deep-fried, is an appetizer with a following.

The Inside Scoop

  1. What to Drink - If you're not a fan of Foster's, try another Australian beer: Newcastle Brown Ale.

NOTHING BUTTTT RUDENESS

by ANNA C.

My husband and I visited Outback Steakhouse on Barataria Blvd on Monday night, March 24, 2008 and was treated with utmost disrepect from the waiter - John. We finally get a chance to enjoy a relaxing evening with NO KIDS after 15years to arrive at this restaurant at 7pm, Our food arrived at 8pm, which was frustrating and the vegetables were on the wrong plates. I kindly asked the waiter to please take it to the back and exchange the vegies which he took lightly and proceed to grab my husbands fork off the table and scrapped the vegies from one plate to the other-slamming the vegies and the utensils-like we were dogs! I asked for his manager and told him HOW RUDE! WE WILL NEVER VISIT THIS PLACE AGAIN! ---His own co-worker informed us that this was not the first time he has treated guests this way. I am a very well-known citizen of my area and will advise everyone I know to AVOID OUTBACK ON BARATARIA, espec. if this waiter is still employed!

Curbside-To-Go is Better than Dine-In!

by CSMobileUser

This Outback is probably one of the best when it comes to Curbside-To-Go, especially when you call ahead. But for as dining in is concern, go to the one on Veterans Memorial in Metaire. Better service and friendly staff!

Avoid The outback special.

by taymegkb

My husband and I were very disappointed with the outback special this week. It was definitely too spicy. We have eaten the special many times and it was never spicy. Why ruin a good thing? We will try the special again and if it is still spicy we will never go there again.

Pros: Great service.

Cons: Below average steaks.

Professional Staff

by downeysc

I had one of the best dining experiences on the West Bank since arriving here in 1995.
I always thought of the Outback as a fast food steak house, now I think of it as a 4 Star Restaurant surrounded with culinary excellence.
As a walk-in, I was told maybe a 40 min. wait for seating. 18 min. later I was at a nicely lit table, with a very professional waitress, what a pleasure for the west Bank. I will return and recommend the Outback to all.

Pros: Great service, Professional, Worth any wait.
