I have been shopping here for several years up until just recently. I would shop at least once a week and spend at least $40 each time because I knew my money could go so far and I could walk away with many great quality name brand merchandise for adult women on a budget. It was and still is very organized but my problem here is the price! It is outrageous! I realize you can get more for an item with a tag on it, but when the price at Purple cow is more than the store charges on clearance something is wrong!! I mean really?? this is a thrift store - not a retail clothing store that can charge 14.99 for a shirt! The prices are out of control and the owners should be ashamed of themselves for allowing greed to get the better of them! My cousin and I use to shop there all the time - at least once a week - but now, I browse once every few months and haven't bought anything in at least 3 years - GREEDY GREEDY GREEDY - you should be ashamed.

All their clothing is well organized and by size & colour. Many perfectly new clothing, shoes, housewares & books. I totally enjoyed their vintage section! I found a genuine Kate Spade purse, good as new and paid $9.99 for it! You never know what you find, it's a great place to browse, kind and helpfull people that work there.
I give them a BIG thumbs-up and can certainly recommend shopping here!

I agree that the Store itself makes for a wonderful thrift store shopping experience. Well-lit, ORGANIZED, clean merchandise, especially the women's clothes. Having just moved into the area near the store, I furnished my apartment home with items I got from Purple Cow. I go there at least 2 times a month....HOWEVER...Don't go there when the "owners are there", and especially if its an hour be-fore closing. Not even a SMILE from those two! They are very, very unfriendly, and will rush you out of the store so they can get going if you go there 45 minutes before closing. The guy is the worst. Disrespectful to their employees, and they seem to be scared to death of them. Not being able to take your basket out of the store to load your vehicle is another annoyance! You have to pull your car up to the curb, go back in the store, retrieve your basket, and take the basket back into the store. Inconvenient and jusb plain dumb, especially when Purple Cow is on the basket (store is near ralphs, tuesday morning and other retail shops). I'm a strong Christian, and what I've witnessed, is these people are poor witnesses of Christ.

If I could rate this store at a 0 I would. Went I went into the purple cow on this morning December 18th I was highly disappointed. A co worker told me of the place and I decided I wanted to check it out. When I walked in others were shopping and someone was at the counter checking out. I was not greeted and was NEVER asked if I needed any help. The lady at the counter did not even thank me when I left the store. I looked around and I have seen better thrift stores than this. The clothes were quite shabby. Also this is a store that has a so called Christian label. Tell me this how are your donations called Christlike and you dont even greet people when they walk in your store. I will never go this store again and by the way I saw several things in the toy section that I wanted to puchase but you will never get any of my money. I will tell several people about the rude experience I had here.

One of my favorite things to go shopping in thrift stores. Of all the thrift stores I have been to, Purple Cow tops them all. My experiences have been pleasant and beneficial...I have been able to purchase name brand, good quality clothes at bargain prices as well as name brand shoes for next to nothing. My daughter loves going and looking through all the nick-knacks and books...I am a loyal customer and will continue to be!

The purple cow is a thrift store which is run by a group of church from downtown baton rouge. The group is called Christian Outreach Center 225 377-8582 they also have a webpage Thepurplecow. The money from the store goes to help the poor in this zipcode area. I personally agree with a lot of other folks that the prices are way to high to be a thrift store. the word Acorn keeps coming to mind, Another Acorn project in baton rouge is a group call Needy of Baton Rouge.. There boxs have tripled all over town. as a social worker by trade I am always looking for resources for clients however I have found one article on these people when the advocate did an investigation on them. at that time they were putting nothing back into this community but taking it all to Alabama and they refused to open their books for anyone. These is a scam I have called St. Vincent and other resouces i have and no one knows anything about these people. Do not give anything to agencies you are not familiar with, there are way to many acorns going on out there.

I have been a loyal customer of The Purple Cow for several years now, that is until NOW! I can truly understand needing to make money as this is a business, but when one starts to price things in a ridiculous manner, then it is time for me to go on down the road!!! They still do have a few things that are reasonably priced, but when they want 7.99 and up for a pair of used shoes, something is WRONG! Also, when they want 15.00 for an ordinary dress, its like.....hello? Anybody there feeling ok? Are you on crack or something? These prices are too high, so I will not be patronizing them again!

I've have had a trunk full of prom dresses, new clothes and new electronics for over 3 months now. I have attempted to 'donate' this stuff 4 times now and every time they tell me to come back the next morning...I come back the next morning and same stuff.

Out of all my visits they have not even once looked at my stuff -- this is all brand new stuff!!!!

They post drop off times on their door and they do not follow them. Waste of my time.

After receiving a lot of clothes for Christmas, I decided to clear room in my closet and donate all my older clothes to the Purple Cow. If only I would have read these reviews first, I may have changed my mind in time. I loaded my car to the max with clothes that I just had no room for anymore and drove to the store. A not so friendly gentleman walked to my car, I thought to help me unload things, only to tell me that they were closing (at 2:45 on Saturday) and could not accept anything else. As I am leaving, he says I can come back on Monday. Really? Am I supposed to ride around town for 2 days with all these clothes in my car until they are ready for donations. It's beyond belief that any business whose sole source of income is donations would ever turn away the very thing that makes them successful.

August,2010....
I must agree with many of the people on this site who have taken the time to write or review " The Purple Cow" store. I'm not sure who owns this store, but even one of the workers there used the " b" word when describing her. They have insituted a new " frequent buyer" card..and for every 10 dollars spent, they will punch a hole in your card. One day last week I spent about 240 dollars, and they gave me a percentage off by the use of my frequent buyer card. On the same day, a lady was in,and she was charged for an item that she did not even purchase..It took an act of congress for her to get a store credit for the item..or the missing item. She waited, I know, at least 15 minutes, and finally told them that she was running late for an appointment. After that, the cashier suggested that she leave her credit card there with them...so that when the boss lady was able to , they would FINALLY credit her account. After that, I feel sure that particular lady will not be shopping the Purple cow again. Their pricing is ridiculous on collectables..earlier I said that a friend of mine walked over to this store for a week ...looking for a glass items I had wanted. Well, later on, I found the exact SAME item at a Walmart for 3 dollars less. It was a glass lemon/orange juicer. They had asked 5 dollars for the item..walmart had it for 2 dollars. The thing that I do like, though, is how the clothing, for the most part, is organized and sized. In many local goodwills, everything is all mixed up and it's so difficult to shop..and it takes hours of time to even find anything in a mish mash style. The Purple Cow now advertises on the internet at the advocate's home page website. So, some of their money is NOT going to charity....but to get people to come into their store. I really would like to know why the older man snobbed my Mom off when she said hi to him one day recently. He clearly ignored her...and this irriitated me. It's like these people or the store owners are snobs...but the women who work there are more like slaves who are fearful to say anything against the management. Yes, they do have piped in music and it is air conditioned ...it also has a good selection of many items..I still agree that they need to get real and lower their prices....And they really will not negotiate on any prices...I have tried. Very mixed feelings about this store....they truly over price anything that has any designer label.

I recently tried to donate to the Purple Cow the remnants of a garage sale to clean out my fathers house so he could move. Several of the boxes had not even been included in the sale, because the contents were too sentimental for my sisters and I to sell ourselves. I called them the day after the sale and they gave me the instructions to drop my donation off. When I went with a truck LOADED with clothes, toys, games, dishes, shoes and literally thousands of dollars worth of sewing supplies such as fabrics, spools of thread, patterns etc. they told me they were overloaded and couldn't take it even though it was about to rain. I called again that afternoon and spoke to someone who said to bring it first thing the next morning. Well, the second time around they refused to take it because I guess they figured the garage sale prices indicated no one would want the stuff. Without even going through it they turned away my donation because, and I paraphrase, "they have to be able to make money from the sales." Much of what I was attempting to donate were my personal items, and they were not junk or trashy. I would never have even brought anything to them I didn't think someone would use. In the past when I donated a box or two they acted like they were doing me a favor taking and selling my stuff. Not a single "thank you." I will never donate to the Purple Cow again.

I live in Atlanta but have relatives in Baton Rouge that I visit at least twice a year - One of the highlights of each visit is stopping by the purple Cow - we always find the coolest stuff there! We have found tons of clothes there- often expensive name brands for a fraction of the cost. There are always lots of treasures to hunt through - from holiday knick knacks that you might not buy when priced in a regular store but for 50 - 1.00 add a great deal of festivity to the holidays. The children are always able to find toys - especially Barbie!
The books are the best part - often current titles, lots of classics and lots of kids' books - all for a fraction of a regular bookstore- we love that place!
It is a place to plan regular stops to as you never know what you might find based on what has been donated that day - the best part is your finds are helping benefit others in the Baton Rouge area - all in a clean, well-lit, well-organized pleasant atmosphere.
I give it two thumbs up - wish we could go more often!

For the first person that ditched the store earlier, may God bless you, you are a miserable person. This store is run by good ole Christian ladies. I bring my daughter there to get books (dirt cheap and clean) and occasionally they throw in something free, last time it was a book tote! Always friendly, very pleasant experiences!

The Purple Cow is the best thrift store I have ever been to . You are greeted by a sweet smelling candle and relaxing music, someone saying hello when you walk in the door , and not to mention the most organized and neat thrift store you will ever enter. I bought my husband a suit worth over $100 for only $9.99. I even bought my easter dress there for only $5.99. I was so excited I even bought us shoes for a mere $2.99 . I have bought all sorts of treasures there . There decorative accessories are amazing and can be bought for as little as $.99 cents. I bought a bath spa mat kit for only $6.99 . They are usually $50 - $100 . I plug it in almost every night and have the benefit of a whirlpool in my bath tub. It is incredible the things you can find there. I recommend the Purple Cow to everyone.

PROS: Relaxing environment, affordable prices and endless treasures.
CONS: None

The Purple Cow is an Thrift store that is above most thrift shopping experineces. The store is clean, The merchandise is in good condition, the store layout is well organized and the prices are good. This store doesn't have the junk that most thrift stores sell. It is much more enjoyable to treasure hunt in a clean and well organized environment than in a junk store.

The store is very clean, well lighted and well laid out, clothes are arranged in departments, by size. I got a $500 retail sport coat for $6.99. Ties are $.99, sport/dress shirts from $1.99 to $6.99. Pants from $2.99 to $5.99. I find The Cow to be a friendly, pleasant place to shop.

The Purple Cow in Baton Rouge is the perfect example of a store with an identity complex. They are set up as a thrift shop but have retail store prices. Good luck finding anything in there below $10.

ALL of their stuff is donated and the fact that they hike up the prices to such a degree absolutely annoys me. They also swear that their electronic stuff is tested before it's put on the floor, but DO NOT believe it unless you see it with your own eyes.

TWO thumbs down!
