Hi, David Guidry here. I am the second generation owner and operator of Lakeside Camera Photoworks. We are a small business, we suit up and show up every day. Our goal is to thrill everyone who patronizes our two stores. On balance, we succeed. We've been serving the greater New Orleans area since 1972. Like any business with a substantial volume in unique transactions, for some people, we are only as good as our worst performance on a given day. I wish we were perfect - believe me! If we fall short, I'd like to know about it and I promise we'll make it right. More about me. I grew up in River Ridge, Louisiana (just outside New Orleans). Attended Jesuit High School in New Orleans. Attended LSU and South Oregon State College, graduated with a History degree from LSU in 1991. Married with three children. Lakeside Camera Photoworks is the best playground I know. Innovation and implementation of new photo products and services is great fun.

Ratings_icons Incredible Resource for Small Businesses!

Peter R.

After using Lakeside for years for simple photographic prints and miscellaneous services over the years, I only recently visited their flagship store near Lakeside Mall in Metairie. Wow. This place is a candy store for creative people. They can take your film or digital images and produce almost anything you can imagine - cards, wall art, merchandise, multimedia - they are an unbelievable resource for small businesses and anyone who wants to get their photos and images out of their computer and into something memorable. I very highly recommend them.

Ratings_icons You've got to be kidding me!!!!

I have printed TWICE at this place. The first time my print went missing and I had to wait in the store while they reprinted it for me. I figured I'd give them a second chance as I needed some prints in a hurry. I paid the more expensive price to have them done the same day and when I went back to get them, they were printed as cropped images after I specifically asked for them to not be cropped. So after they reprinted them while I waited in the store, they bring the prints out to me and they are printed WRONG again! I couldn't believe it, I was in the store the whole time. This time they printed them to the wrong size! At this point the store was closed and there was nothing I could do as the girl who runs the machine had left for the night. Not only did I have to disappoint my client by not having her pictures printed in time, I still had to waste another lunch hour to drive from mid city to Lakeside to pick up the prints that should have been done the day before. This is obviously not the place to take your prints if you need them done by a certain time or you are a professional. Needless to say, I will NOT be taking my prints to them again.

Ratings_icons Corteous Help Staff Quality Stuff here

First of all I would like to respond to one of the other "reviewers". Lakeside is still in business. Perhaps you dialed the number incorrectly. When you dropped off that film at the other place two blocks down, you probably drove by and saw that the place is still up and running. Why would you give a place one star when you didn't even use their service? Absurd.

I've had photos developed there several times and I always get a much better product than if you bring it to WalMart. They also run specials from time to time which means at times you can get the higher grade product at a cheaper price. They have a bay of kiosks that you use to select which photos you want developed and you can crop them. They were so helpful the first time I tried to use the kiosk. Now I know how to use it without assistance.

I've also purchased lens filters, caps, and other accessories from them. Their prices are reasonable and I found the staff super nice. I didn't get the impression that I was bothering them since I was only getting a $15 or $30.00 item and not a $2,000.00 camera.

I went by to see if my point and shoot needed to be repaired and what the costs would be. One of the sales guys looked at it and said that the issue I saw wouldn't effect the picture quality and to send it in would mean a few weeks without the camera and about $150.00 or so in repairs -- which I really didn't need. His honesty saved me time and money and I wound up not buying anything that day, but I didn't forget that he helped me out and went back to buy stuff from him since.

I suggested this place to a friend that got a dlsr as a gift. They also have classes there for various levels of users which I told my friend about and she has taken a couple of them.

Ratings_icons Are they still in business??

Had a whole batch of film to develop and called them one afternoon to inquire about pricing etc. No one answered. I reached someone at their nearest competitor, but no one at Lakeside. Figured I'd try around 2 p.m. on a Saturday. Again, after several repeated attempts to call no answer. Hint: Their phone disconnects itself after about 8 rings.

Ratings_icons Good for a local store

Selection is above average, and customer service is pretty good. They have some items actually out on the shelves that other stores tend to keep behind the camera. I like this because I prefer to browse without having to ask for help. They get pretty busy, and when they do they aren't as helpful, but if you can catch them during a slow time, they really do their best to find what you need. They also have a nice are inside in their photo printing area. Even has a play area so you can bring your kids while you get your photos printed. They're much more family friendly than their competetion down the street, Bennett's (avoid them!!!)

PROS: Good selection, average pricing
CONS: parking can be tough
