I hate to be the reviewer picking on other reviews, but I must assume the "anonymous" post is an employee. Because the review before mine by Rebecca is dead on. She writes "lots of bucks put down for not enough 'bang' at this place."

Let me start by saying that I will never go back. I will also note that there are restaurants that have food poisoned guests of mine that I have given two stars to on here. With that in mind, one star. Here's why...

The food is overpriced. This is universally true. Look up the menu. There's nothing particularly bold, and the quality (this you'll have to take our word for if you're reading pre-visit) is nothing special. It's not so much that the food is bad... it's just that you could get better food at the Stockyard Restaurant in Brighton, and similar food at any 99 Restaurant... both at a lower price.

The real sin here is the service. When I last visited, I was part of a small group of family members. While I am a younger person and was in dress-casual, I am a discrete, generous tipper with reasonable expectations. The young man on water service got $10 from me just for being exceptionally tactful and careful filling water. However the manager and hosts/hostesses were ignorant and rude.

They refused to sit our party (with elderly guests) because one person hadn't arrived. That was the day of her graduation which took place down the block (as was well known by all local businesses), and she was being held back for some administrative issues. We had to wait outside because it was too busy, and when our last family member arrived we were told we'd missed our reservation because our full party wasn't there at the correct time.

When I grew impatient and tried to follow up after an older family member already gave up, I was met with immense disrespect, literally brushed off to take another customer mid-sentence by a manager and host.

Good thing these employees aren't being compensated to provide customer service. Oh wait...

And like I said, from there on out, it was reasonable service by the waitstaff, and mediocre food. Oh, and an unreasonably high bill. It was someone else's treat, but even still I felt cheated.

Never again. I can't, in good conscience, give them any more of my money. There are just too many other better places to eat both in terms of food quality as well as service.

Lots of bucks put down for not enough "bang" at this place. We found it overblown and a bit pretentious. Service was OK but the waitstaff was snotty. This is "the place" to be seen in town, apparently.

Albanian hospitality is evident at Pier 4. The food, service, and ambience are very appealing. The lobster bisque was amazing. The stuffed lobster was scrumptious and delectable with enough moisture in each bite to make me savor each morsel. The bread, and soufle were served fresh and represent what I consider to be that extra effort that true restaurants should take to make the dining experience more pleasurable. The Lobster tank and memorabilia were very entertaining. It is clear that the class and charm in this family has been passed down for three generations and the traditions remain strong. I can't wait to return. It was expensive, but worth every dollar.

The food was fabulous. I recommend the lobster special and always the fresh sea food specials. Anthony's is an iconic Boston restaurant. If you are ever passing through the city you must stop by for at least a cup of chowder and a fresh warm popover. I LOVED IT

Pros: Great dinning atmosphere that overlooks the harbor

.

This place is terribly over-priced and the management is quite unfriendly. The wait staff seemed ok but I felt bad for how they were treated. It seemed as if they were not happy with their jobs. This is supposed to be a must see attraction for people visiting Boston but it just an expensive, cheesy tourist trap. The food was pretty good but definitely not worth it.

I had a surprise birthday dinner of 20+ people at Anthony's. My waiter was a petite man with white hair who had the personality of a wet blanket. He acted as if we were imposing on his time. He didn't even tell me whether or not a salad came with my lobster - I had to ask! The waiter never returned to our table to ask how my food was. The food was good, but not great - and certainly not worth high price. The decor was stuffy and outdated. Staff surrounded our table staring at us and making us feel awkward. When I crossed over the "bridge" near the front desk I had at least 5 male staff standing around staring at me and making me feel uncomfortable. At the end of the night, the staff gave up on serving my party water. Since the heat was turned up so high, everyone was warm and thirsty. I actually had to get up and start pouring my guests water - and no staff offered to assist me!! The worst part of the night was when the waitress asked one of my guests why the tip was less than their "expected" $200. I had to wait around for my guests to figure out who had to pitch in more money to please this arrogant and unprofessional staff. A famous restaurant that I used to enjoy growing up is now, sadly, forever in my past.

Pros: Great view and tasty popovers

Cons: Rude Service - over-priced everything!

We wanted to have a nice meal on an early Saturday evening, remembering old good times at the Restaurant.

The waiters were so rude, and the staff at the entrance was so rude, that we got up and left. I will never go there again, unless the ownership changes, and I hope that will happen soon.

Spectacular view is about all Anthony's Pier has left. People need to get over what it "once was". I'm sure they have their moments when food and service is impeccable but a place such as that for it's money and potential should be consistent. As a former restuarant manager and a dining out expert, I felt our server was horrendous and was annoyed to see us coming in from theTrade Center home show. I had never felt a server to acually dislike me. It was off peak hours and very quiet so I usually don't expect as much "ambiance" but for 3 servers, breadboy, host and chef to be all lined up staring at all the tables was awkward. Also for not having much to do, our server never once did a check back. The worst part was, the crabcakes were tasteless and the fried oysters were heavy and stunk. I was envious of the table next to us who did have a friendly server.
Also, the large room could use a little more updating. It's a waste to see such beautiful potential be just that. Potential.

I just completed the review about my first date at Pier 4 40 years ago!! Then I read the negative reviews ! I have always found the waitsraff attentive and the fish outstanding. If the Bisque is not hot enough they immediately correct it. No restaurant is perfect but these nrlegative opinions do not do justic to this great restaurant. Yes, it is a very big restaurant and not as crowded as it was 40 years ago when there were Lin lines to get in. But I kind of like a restaurant that is accessible with plenty of parking without the clatter of dishes and cacaphony of sound in upscale trendy restaurants such as Legal Seafood! My family won't go to Legal Seafood anymore after several undercooked and very bad experiences. I hope this helps some folks to at least give Pier 4 a try.

I went to Anthony's Pier 4 for lunch with my husband and 2 kids and expected a great experience, but instead were greatly disappointed, even angry for spending $110 on a lunch no portion of which tasted half decent. Clam chowder was clearly out of a can and arrived to the table cold. Kids pasta was so bland they would not touch it after a few bites. Sashimi plate had old pieces of salad in it and the fish itself appeared to be cut by a plastic knife - just didn't look professional. A side dish of asparagus was overcooked and came with a disgusting tasting hollandaise sauce. Cajin Tuna was ok, but nothing special.
The only thing the restaurant had to offer is the view. You can count on getting a table by the window since the place is a ghost town. Now I know why. Certainly will not come back.

I had very high expectations about my first dinner at Anthony's Pier 4. I thought it was Boston's premier seafood restaurant, but was very disappointed. The decor was nice, but clearly outdated and poorly maintained. The restaurant was nearly empty and my party of six had a reservation, yet we had to wait 15 minutes to be seated. The waitstaff was friendly, but not very attentive to detail as they brought my father clam chowder instead of the fish chowder he ordered and included fried clams, which weren't listed, in the fisherman's platter. The bisque I ordered was cool upon arrival. My sister and I ordered a half-dozen oysters for an appetizer and were disgusted to find the remains of an eaten cocktail shrimp in the tray that carried the accompanying sauces. Finally, my meal (clams linguini) was under-portioned AND there were two small circular pieces of paper in my dish that must have been from the top of a wine bottle. Overall I have to say that the food was way over-priced and lacking the quality I expected from a restaurant that holds itself in such high regard (don't be fooled by their website). We should have gone to Legal.

TAKE THE TIME TO READ THIS! Pier 4 was recommended to us by friends. We made a reservation for a window seat, party of 8 three weeks prior. At that time, we were told that it was not a problem. Upon arrival the initial two of our party informed the hose of our arrival. He asked them to wait in the bar until our entire party arrived. She (my mother) then confirmed that we were getting our window seat as reserved....he promised a "good view" of which she then was more stern and requested our window seat. He dismissed her like she was someone who didn't deserve her attention. After our party of 8 was there - they did seat up promptly, however, the host kept looking over with a smug look. No sooner did we sit down were menu's handed to us and a drink order taken. Before the drinks were delivered another server came over and asked to take our order. Approx 2 minutes after sitting. It was an apparent move to rush us - even though 90% of the tables were vacant. I am not an aficionado of restaurants, but so far - I was not happy at all. We had two waiters and a bus boy. Both waiters were glum and older....the older I don't mind, but lacked personality completely. Almost as if they were upset they had to work. That was the feeling all through dinner.

FOOD: they served bread & plates of marinated mushrooms before we got salad. That was fine. Apps we got Oysters and Calamari. Oysters were good - calamari tasted like plastic...stay away. Entrees: Pretty much everything was GOOD, not great, GOOD. My Filet was cooked medium rare as asked, but didn't have much flavor. My girlfriend's filet was cooked medium to medium well (ordered Medium rare) - and after brought to their attention...NOTHING was offered to be done with it. The BEST - another one of us got a "Baked Stuff Lobster" - It arrived cold...COLD!!! The "stuffed" part - Ritz crackers!

I'd stay away! So many GREAT places elsewhere!!!! They need a new staff and complete overhaul!

What a prime piece of real estate! What a shame the experience was not as prime! To put it bluntly ..This place needs an entire new staff and a good Chef & it would be fabulous!. The picture they show here is not the way it looks today. The Nastalgia is great but every waiter had to be 60 plus in years and that wouldn't be bad if they could speak english and had a personality. Their uniforms didn't fit and looked sloppy not to mention looked like they have not ever been washed . I would expect more for my dollar.I didn't see one waiter or waitress smile the entire time I was there, in fact NO staff member smiled and made you feel invited. It was very uncomfortable. The food was way over priced considering the quality. I could get a better meal at Long Horns! The owner clearly needs to walk thru Abe & Loui's or Grill 23 or any other quality restaurant in the city and look around at the staff and the menu prices and the service and see the quality meal you can get for the same price that they are charging at Peir 4 for a medioker at best meal.
I would not recomend this place for dinner. Considering how much better you can get for your same dollar. What a shame...BEAUTIFUL veiw! Maybe pop in for a cocktail to see the view but that is as far as I would go if I ever went back.

Anthony's Pier four is by far one of the best restaraunts I have ever been to. My boyfriend took me there for our anniversary and it was amazing. We sat near the waterfront and our view of the lit-up boston skyline was so romantic. When we went it was end of summer and they were running a 3course special which we both got. We ordered lobster bisque (fantastic), filet migneon and desert. All delicious. Our waiter was more than accomodating and was extremely polite. It was awesome when you walked in to see all the pictures of famous people that have visited the restaraunt. After, seeing the reviews I am in shock. Yes, Anthony's Pier Four is on the pricier side, but its higher class dining, what do you expect? I think the other people that reviewed this should go to a Bertuccis or something. That seems to be more their kind of restaraunt. I highly, highly recommend Anthony's Pier Four to anyone willing to spend more money for high class dining. Anthony's is truely a wonderful experience!

Worst dining experience ever, surroundings were shabby and outdated. Dishes and glassware dated. Waiter at next table was loud , rude and totally inappropriate. Food however was the key complaint, it was appalling. Flavor of the bouillabaisse was quite the worst thing I have eaten, flavor gross and quite nauseating, even the side dish of asparagus was vile. For the four of us in the party only the lobster bisque was in any way appetizing. This establishment is over priced, over hyped and we would thoroughly recommend avoiding this restaurant as a place to go in Boston.

Meal was very good. View was excellent of the harbor. The entertainment was disgusting. A bus boy, man, was clearing a table and a waiter started to curse him, stupid, dumb and then the swearing came out in hearing range of about 4-5 tables of people. Another waiter got the manager and he came over and apologized to a table with two people who said they were ready to leave. I motioned for him to come to my table and told him for a so called high class restaurant it was embarrassing and derogatory to have a waiter talk down to this bus boy, man, and in front of my wife and others to see & hear loud enough for others to hear and for no reason in this place. He apologized and walked away. I was caught off guard and talked to the manager after I ate and told him in baseball they eject the player, he said, well I wasn?t going to send him home in the middle of his shift. If he was a real manager he should have had the waiter apologize to the bus boy, man and customers then sent home. I said I would be sending the owners a little note hoping they would fire both the waiter and manager. They bus boy, man, should have been rewarded as the busboy said or did nothing except finish cleaning other tables. I?d like to see what a restaurant like at the four seasons would have done. I?m sure both the waiter and the manager would have been fired on the spot. So if you don?t like swearing while eating or belittling another employee and the manager doing nothing, avoid Anthony?s at all cost. I?ve been to Anthony?s numerous times for over 40 years but this is it. It shows that they just don?t get it. ALso, there is no contact on their website except to make a reservation or banquet appointment. Fuuny isn't it, only one I've seen like that. Like I said they still don't get it after all these years. Kind of goes with some of the other reviews.

Yesterday my mother and I went to lunch at Anthony's Pier 4. It appears as if the restaurant may have been a decent place many years ago but has completely come into disrepair at some point. We were promptly sat at a pretty good table, so no issues there but our waiters uniform was covered in food stains- and not as if he had just spilled something, I mean it looked as if it hadn't been washed in months.. if ever. He was unpleasant and spoke to us as if we owed him something. When he brought our raw bar appetizer (2 shrimp and 4 oysters for $20) he also brought a plate of mushrooms in some sort of oil (not sure what they were for) and proceeded to spill the oil all over the table with no appology.
The silverware looked as if someone had chewed on it for a good amount of time and the plates needed to be replaced 20 years ago.
The couple at a table next to us had 2 small children with them and when they left food was splattered all over everything.. the table was cleaned.. the floor was not. So whoever was sat at the table next would have had to sit in a bile of crumbs and mush.. not too fancy.
We were also informed that the 2 lobsters we were ordering were now $10 more each.. oh yeah that tiny little blurb they glued on to the bottom of the last pages states so.. hmm. would have been nice to know when were making our selections.

Okay I can go on and on.. in total it was a waste of time and money and a big dissapointment. The crowd was all older people who I assume used to go to the restaurant and came back expecting what it may have been at some point. Don't go there.. it leaves a bad taste in your mouth.

Pros: Seafood

Cons: Everything

.

The owner was more than welcoming and the food was incredible. Yes it is upscale but that's the charm that made it famous. If you're looking for a cheap, casual meal this isn't the place for you. But if you're looking for great fresh food (a little pricey) I highly recommend it. The raw cherry stone clams on the half shell were some of the best that I've ever had (and I've been eating them since I was little) and the scallops were cooked to perfection with a great simple sauce. The waiter was not only friendly but also informative. Anthony's Pier 4 has an expectation of its customers coming dressed appropriately because it is not a fast food restaurant. Although it isn't as popular as it used to be, the food and service are as good as ever. (fun fact: It is the only restaurant to ever be spoofed on SNL)

Horrible Customer Service -- Extremely unreliable, very rude, no respect for the customers

I made a reservation for 15 of us about two weeks before the date we planed to go to Anthony's. They asked for a $100 deposit for party this size. I bravely provided them with my credit card information. Just two days before the actual lunch date, I called back to confirm and they DID'T HAVE MY RESERVATION!!

I checked my credit card online and they had charged me for the $100 on the day I made the reservation. The host was extremely rude. Didn't care about the charge from their restaurant. All I got was, "if you want to bring in a party of 15, you will have to pay again $100 to make a reservation...."
When I asked to speak with her manager, she said she will have the owner call back and said "whenever he has time.. he may be travelling...."

Don't bother with Anthony's, Boston has a lot better to offer.

I've lived in Boston for 25 years and have traveled and dined extensively all over the world. I'm also a past employee of Pier 4 having worked my way through college by 'slinging lobsters' at Anthony's through the late 80s, for several exciting years. This said, I was truly looking forward to having a great meal at Pier 4. However, while I was expecting nostalgia, I was not expecting disapointment.
At lunch on a sunny early spring Friday, the place was a ghosttown. The hostess greeted us without a bit of refinement and was wholly lacking in genuine friendliness. This is a tradition, there, I know, but it's getting old these days. They have the nerve to charge $50 for a chicken lobster so the greeting should be friendly.

One of the sons, must be Michael, camps out at a rear table and his sourpuss is vintage 1987, hello!
The waiter was morose, but efficient. The menu is inspiring, but the food is no more than adequate. Stick to the lobsters and the broiled seafoods; avoid the raw bar and the foolish sashimi. Desserts could use a major overhaul, especially the mint pie - awful!

The bar service is horrible, rude, and primitive. Age and experience does not translate to seasoned and welcoming service, at least not at the Pier, how very Anthony-like. Still, the wine and liquer menus are amazing.

We spent a minute with the event planner before we decided this was not our type of place, even she was stand-offish and would have been right at home as a surly Southie bar maid.

Avoid this place unless you're just hungry and want an easy parking space. Time to bulldoze this clamshack into the harbor !

OK so it is from the l970s but I gotta tell you it is still a great place. We have business meetings here at lunch and also go for dinner. Fine is excellent and service is super. Not very crowded but enough people so it looks right. FREE PARKING and a lovely view of Boston Harbor. Not a ripoff like Turner Fisheries and a better dining experience than Legal Seafood (ok, so the seafood is better at Legal). Anyways, I have good experiences every time I have gone .

i used to go to anthonys in the 70's in its heyday with my family. anthony would be there. a great host. a great bustling place. there was a pirate with a peg leg that used to open the door.

i went a few times in the last year. i will probably go again too for nostagia. the food is good, service is fine. but anthiny is gone, the sons are arrogant and dopey. the huslte and bustle are gone. its a shame. the place has the settting and parking to be the best spot on the city.

its a shame.....

My husband and I were visiting Boston and read some nice reviews on this restaurant, so we decided to give it a try. We walked in around 5:00 on a Tuesday, and the place was a ghost town. We were wearing shorts, nice looking outfits, but they were still shorts, so the host told us that we could only sit on the covered patio which was fine. The food was very good. The service was quick. Do not expect your waiter to have any kind of personality, as all of the servers were very straight-faced and serious. The clams were a bit "fishy" for being fresh, but the rest of the meal was good. The scallops were terrific. If you are looking for good food served by "robots", go to Anthony's.

Go for the Harbor view, but not the service, the food nor the courtesy. Typical Boston nonsense, the two guys running the restaurant greet you at the door way with a rude sneer. They'll greet you like a bad cousin - without eye contact and without welcome. We were also ignored by the bartender until it was conveinent for him to take the order and the money. Don't bother arriving early without everyone in your party and ask for a reserved table - you'll wait on the bride landing until the restaurant is ready for you despite the restaurant is nealry empty. We were seated at a window table with a wonderfull Habor view, then served by a poorly trained waiter, a forgetful waiter but a polite waiter. The waiter forgot half the entre dinner order when he spoke with the kitchen, so only half the order came 20 minutes before the second half. Food was quality was average. Skip the shirmp scampi and the steak. Stick with lobster and chowder. Better yet, go to Anthony's for a cocktail and a harbor view, then walkout and eat Italian in the South End - Mary's Restaruant.

I went there with my girlfriend and the first thing we noticed, there were 3 tables with us colored folks seated at them, all in the same area, undoubtedly the worst seats in the restaurant. After we had sat down, another colored party was seated at a table in the same area. A quick glance around the rest of the white-washed dining room was enough to convince us that this seating arrangement was not a mere coincidence.

I thought that maybe the food would save this experience, but it did not. The appetizer of gazpacho tasted like tomato sauce and cucumbers thrown in a blender. The bread they brought out for my girlfriends smoked fish was stale and right off the shelf of our local Costco. The salad looked hastily thrown together and tasted accordingly.

The main course was sea bass for myself and scallops for my girlfriend. The sea-bass was essentially baked fish in butter, no care went into the presentation and the fish was mediocre at best. My girlfriends scallops were salty and devoid of any other taste.

The restaurant could have saved some face with the dessert, but instead they chose to continue down the path of mediocrity and disappointment by delivering blueberry soup with a soggy crust and ice cream cake made with ice cream that had been defrosted and then re-frozen.

all-in-all a disappointing experience replete with poor food, biased service and an over-inflated bill.

I recommend the Dunkin Donuts down the street, at least you can seat yourself at a table by the window there.

I attended a dinner for 20+, as a guest. We all had lobster. Very hard to do lobster wrong, although the lobsters were a bit starved....probably a bad batch... Waiters were good and efficient, we had a private room upstairs, so the service was special. Food was below average, view was superb. Since I ate free, it was worth every penny I paid...

My sister and I ate lunch here on a Thurs afternoon after reading in a magazine that it had great seafood (as it should-it's right on the ocean). The rolls brought out were hard as a rock, the seafood chowder had maybe 2 pieces of seafood and tasted more like salty bacon soup. The salads consisted of white lettuce that was browning on the edges - clearly not fresh or mixed greens like most high end restaurants. Then the meal came, we had the tuna and the salmon. The salmon was fishy, the tuna wasn't bad, but the presentation of the food was not appealing at all, and the small side of potatoes that came with the meals were gross! They seemed un fresh and tasted awful I don't even know how to describe them- I was very disappointed, I have never had such bad food anywhere, for a complete meal to be awful is pretty rare, especially at a restaurant with higher prices!!

It was funny because the lady at the table next to us sent back 2 dishes during her lunch! I'm surprised the place hasn't gone out of business!!

We recently had visitors from out of town and decided to take them here based on some recommendations on the nice water view. However, we were hugely disappointed from the time we had to deal with the hostess. Although there were plenty of vacant tables(it was a Monday night), she wouldn't seat us until our 5th person arrived. Next, service was awful! From the busboys clearing out the table in between appetizers and entrees, to our own waiter, it was extremely disappointing. The busboys kept spilling sauces from the plate onto the table and dropping knifes and forks everywhere. The waiter was literally drenched and dripping in sweat while serving our food! I seriously questioned the integrity of our clam chowder. In addition, they kept rushing us from drinks to appetizers to entrees to dessert. We felt constantly pushed to get done and get out even though there was no one waiting for a table! Finally for after dinner dessert, we ordered a glass of cognac. Not only was it not served in a warm glass (as it's suppose to), it was in a chilled glass! The people here really have no clue! The taste of the food was ok, but you can definitely find comparable (if not better) in Boston. We sampled a variety of seafood including lobster, raw oysters, clams, shrimp, and crabcakes.

I went to Anthony's for a graduation party. We were about 15. The food was good but not for the prices. I almost never write reviews but I have to review this restaurant because of the rude host. Instead of giving us a warm welcome it was totally the opposite. I asked where my party was and he said IN THE DINNING ROOM. well where else would they be??? in the kitchen...and it is a big dinning room so I asked if he can show us to our table so we wouldn't be wondering around and he just said NO. very rude...other than that our waiters were very friendly

We have dined at Anthonys Pier 4 for over 45 years. Sadly we have seen the slow decline of what was once an excellent restaurant and a truly memorable dinning experience. We have had some wonderful meals and some poor meals over the years. Unfortunately there seem to be more bad meals lately. Last night was truly the end of the line. I will not bore you with the details but to say that the main course (prime rib) was totally unacceptable over cooked roast left over from lunch. The management response to our complaint was both rude and confrontational. The only bright spot was our waiter who seemed to be caught in a tight situation. If you want to see the waterfront, have an appetizer at the bar.

The dinning room is a disaster. The chef and host have finally destroyed what was left Anthonys

Anthony's was truly one of the worst dining experiences I have ever had. It is dingy and run down; not the atmosphere you'd expect from a "fine dining" establishment. The host was EXTREMELY rude. When I arrived I asked if they were serving dinner or lunch, and I was treated to a sarcastic, condescending "LUNCH!!?!? IT'S 3 :00 IN THE AFTERNOON SIR!!" Sorry I asked.

The hot rolls tasted fishy and the butter was ice cold and rock hard. My salad was warm and wilted. The broiled sea scallops were the highlight of the afternoon, tender and flavorful with a well-textured crust. The accompanying rice, however, was overcooked, very bland and served as a large portion in a laughably small dish that was impossible to eat from without spilling rice all over the table. I wished I had ordered the potato until I saw one at the next table. The blueberry pie was more like blueberry soup. While edible, It had obviously been made with poor quality frozen blueberries that had not been properly drained. The crust had a funky, chemical taste.

I hope you find the conclusion of the meal as amusing as I did. When I attempted to pay the $80 bill with a $100 Anthony's gift card, I was told that meal could be placed on the card, but the tip could not. I was expected to tip the waitress out of my pocket, even though there was ample room left on the card for a 22% tip. When I asked the manager why this was he had no explanation. It was their policy that gratuities could not be paid with an ANTHONY'S gift card. When I told him I didn't plan to return he suggested that I spend the balance of the gift card in their gift shop.

I can't imagine that Anthony's can survive much longer serving bad food and treating their customers the way they do. Arrogance is deadly in the service industry. I won't miss them when they're gone.

Pros: Our server was poliete and helpful.

Cons: Everything else.

We arrived early and there were perhaps 50 diners in a huge room that holds maybe 500. I ordered some special Vancouver Island Oysters, a half dozen for $14. They tasted wonderful. My wife ordered the chicken gumbo which I could have been better had it been a little more spicy. For my main course I had local crab cakes which were good but not great, and my wife had the Finnan Haddie which she loved. We had a bottle of Mer Soliel Chardonnay for only $47, the least expensive I've ever seen this wine in a restaurant. The Grand Marnier Souffle desert was delicious. The service was polite and attentive, but perhaps the fact that they weren't busy contributed to it. All in all it was a good experience, much better than anticipated after reading the negative reviews.

After reading the other reviews, they must have been there some time ago---The food
that my party received was well prepared, the service was outstanding, and the price
of the food was not excessive. Every one in my party of four that dined there over the
Labor Day weekend was well pleased with their dining experience.

I first went there 4 yrs ago and thought it was superb - but maybe my palate wasn't as sophisticated as it is now. I went there last week with my fiancee and was horrified by everything. We weren't approached by a waiter - so after 20 minutes I found a waiter and introduced myself. Appetizer: mussels - tiny and tasteless. Entree: My soft-shelled crab was deep fried then saturated in butter. Although I like fried foods - I want to be able to taste the crab itself. Sarah's entree: Sea Bass. They dumped tomato sauce all over it and ruined a nice piece of fish. We almost sent both back - but the night was already so disappointing we just wanted to leave. I will never go back.

Anthony's Pier 4 is my favorite resteraunt. I have never had a negative experience there. The food is wonderful! They have the most tender steak, and mouthwatering seafoood. Not to mention their famous clam chowder and Glover Salad.
I recommend this resteraunt to anyone who wants an amazing dinner and has taste.
To those who don't realize this resteraunts unique and wonderful charm (as well as the classy and traditional surf and turf)- go to a Red Lobster.

We Love Boston and dining has always been a pleasure until now! We decided to go to Anthony's because it was a seaside restaurant we figured we could not go wrong with the "ocean views". From the moment we walk in we were greeted with attitude and "alien" stares. The environment was very "stuffy", hectic and tense. The restaurant had no flair or exquisite design it looked like an out of date "seaside diner" with a great collection of celebrity pictures on the main entrance walls. The food was edible but definately overpriced for the quality, lack of ambiance and rude service we received. We were ignored and before we finished eating, our dishes were abruptly taken away without asking and it was not even busy. The "ocean view" was average and not worth the time and money. This has been the worst dining experience of my life.

This threw me for a loop, as every other establishment I've ever been too has graciously accommodated a request for separate checks. However, it is (apparently) the policy of Anthony's Pier 4 not to grant such a request (even for a party of two). The waiter was kind enough to confer with management to see if they could make an exception, which they wouldn't, even on a night where the restaurant was nearly empty. It seemed odd for a town that deals with business lunches/dinners on a regular basis.
As previously mentioned, the prices are outrageous as well. You can get the same quality food with friendlier service and a similar view anywhere in Boston, where the task of separating a check is no problem whatsoever.

My husband and I went for a special occassion. After waiting 35 minutes for our bottle of wine our appetizer came out incomplete - luckily we could see from the table next to us who recieved excellent service what was missing. I ordered my steak medium rare and got it charbroiled. My husband prime rib was cooked on the grill! Our waiter even forgot our sides and when we asked for them he remembered they were out of what we ordered. After all this aggravation all we were comped was a cup of coffee. I don't like even like coffee!!! Horrible, horrible place - we will NEVER return!

Service was attentive. The trademark Pop Over was very dry and near burnt. The "Fresh Salmon" couldn't have been more dry and tasteless, same for the Tuna, and the Calamari might as well have been breaded rubber bands. I'm at a loss for words. Truly terrible.

Wow, bad, bad and worse. Great to take your visiting parents if they don't care that the food, service and mixed drinks are really bad. Great view but go somewhere else. What a waste of money!

My friend and I had decided to eat at Anthony's Pier 4 long before I even heard of it. I went to their website and then here, the reviews here bothered me so much I almost decided to not go to Anthoy's, but my friend was so excited I did not try to change his mind. I am so glad too. This was one of the best meals I have had in Boston. From the variety of breads, mushrooms and popovers you received before the food to the the extensive wine list (its a good sized book) to the amazing food (I had the soft shell crabs). It was a delightful meal. I hope those of you who have not been here will go to Anthony's and have a nice of night as I did.

My wife and I really like Anthony's. We dine early, so we get a seat by the water and look at the skyline. Though it costs more, I love their Dover Sole a la meuniere; Anthony's is the only place I've found that makes it the way the French do and I have searched and searched. We enjoy the small Glover salad with each meal. We don't drink, so that's not an issue. My wife really enjoyed the souffle for dessert. We go there every 2 - 3 weeks. We're happy with it. Getting there can be difficult if you don't know how.
