hi i am a teenager and i have been going to canoe river seasonaly my entire life. i love this place with all of my heart and i would truly cry if i ever had to leave. i made amazing friends there and i truly love the place they do indeed have many faults including the workers are rude and scream at fully grown adults if they are not being quiet after curfew once came up to me and my friends and screamed "do your parents love you" and the place is not the most luxurious and there are some bad characters there but i can say it is the place me and my friends love and mostly every kid/teenage loves too dispite its faults it is an amazing place to be and i would give anything to be there every secound of my life :)
I have been camping here for over ten years and love the owner Joe and his family, and the office manager Joannie. Joe was exceptionally kind to me and my family when my late husband was dying of cancer six years ago. I cannot say enough about how supportive he was. I love the ducks and when my son was young he really enjoyed them. I love the rustic feel of the campground and I love getting away from the city since I live in Boston.
Our family has been camping there at Canoe river for about 4 years now.My daughers age 25 and 5 enjoy going camping there as well as my 2 year old grand baby l .. we are sitting home waiting for our camping trip coming memorial; weekend... my five year old says everyday mommy when are we going it is the cutiest thing... yeah the sites are close but so what as to the ducks we love them.. yeah there was some idoit lightning off fire works last year... everybody is intitled to there opinion . but serious people this world is crazy and you have to watch out no matter where you go,,, we will be there brite and early memorial weekend cait wait
hands down the WORST campground I have EVER been to. My fire place was ON THE STREET! I had to sit in the street to watch my fire. The staff was very rude. The sites are WAY too close together. HORRIBLE place...nice if you like parking lot style camping. I'd rather camp in backyard rather than pay a penny for this place. WILL NEVER be back again.!
Our family travels for a living, around the world. We've camped all over Europe, in Africa and from Canada to Guatemala and everywhere in between. We chose this campground for our summer base because it is clean, friendly, inexpensive and full of amenities for the whole family (we have four kids, aged 8-14). The owners and staff are hardworking and accommodating. The bathrooms and showers and clean and hot. There are two pools, a snack bar, inexpensive laundry facilities, well stocked mini-store, game room and activities scheduled all week long for kids (and adults!) of all ages. Anyone griping should really try camping in Eastern Europe, or North Africa or any of a thousand hole in the wall places across the US... we won't even mention what to expect in Central America... this is a GREAT campground for families looking for fun and value for their dollar. Come one, come all!
People complain about how packed the campground is, but it is only packed because it's a nice campground for the price you pay. It is kid and adult friendly. Any campground you go to will have it's issues, it just depends on how picky of a person you are. If your more of a high class, high expectations kind of person, you probably belong at a hotel. If your a true outdoorsmen, and a true camper, you know what to expect. The owners do drive around on golf carts at night very quietly to make sure everyone is "behaving". I've been coming to this campground for years, and I will continue to keep going. I like the "family" feel of the place, what can I say.
Reading many of these the comments I wanted to get my money back because I wanted the best experience for my family but I decided to try it and make the best of my time. I am currently finishing my one month stay and LOVED it, yeah there were some things I did not like but nothing to make me say that I would never come back. The ducks are great for little ones and I even get excited when they would visit and when they did not I noticed. The staff was fantastic and helpful. FYI I book two more weekends and I am looking at a third.
Was very upset at the fact that someone at the campsite set off fireworks at 2am on two different days knowing that there fireworks are not permitted and scared people in a dead sleep. Children were sleeping and couldn't get back to sleep. Tthese were very large explosives because we had two rocket bottoms near our truck and camper. I can't believe that these people even attempted to do this when there are so many trees around. After the first day they did it they should have been escorted off the premises. They ruined my weekend there. I did not feel safe there with my family.I had a handicapped daughter in a wheelchair people should think about that when doing stupid things. I am taking my camper out of there because I do not feel as though my camper is safe there. Inconsiderate people.
the 10 o clock cerfew is rediculous.. they treat people like they are 10 years old with the golf cart patrol telling you to be quiet. people come to campgrounds to have a good time not to be told when to go to bed. people pay dam good money to be here they shouldnt be threatening to throw people out for being loud and having a good time..i'm dam sure old enough, i dont need a mommy..

not all people enjoy the same thing, this will be my 2nd season at canoe river, we enjoy it, never had any issues, sometimes ur the windshield, sometimes ur the bug, but all in all, my opinion is that it's a nice place for a getaway from the husstle n busstle of general life, it's called camping for a reason, if they called it hotelling, youd go to a hotel, quit bitching, and get on with living, its a good place to go
I stayed here for 8 days in August 2009 and 5 days in Sept 2009 with 2 ten year olds never had any problems as discussed in the previous reviews the only campground that i had any thing stolen was Normandy Farms campground were i payed triple what i payed to stay here. Do not judge by what other people say check it out for your self. The reason there are so many ducks here is because before it was a campground it was a duck hatchery .
We have been camping at Canoe River for 4 years now. While I have to agree with the other comments in regards to some of the seasonal sites and the dilapitated trailers does bring a negative to the appearance. Never, Never had a problem with anything being stolen or vandalized, children being harrassed or dirty bathrooms. As for the ducks, Yes they are everywhere but I really dont see what the fuss is. We actually loved having them come through our site several times a day.
I think if you are looking for a place to go as a family or with a group of families, kick back and relax and let your children go play...then Canoe River is the place to be. Yes i agree the pond is dirty but there are choices to either fish, canoe or paddle boat in it or dont. Me personally tend to stay away from it nor do we choose a site near it.
Sites could be a bit bigger but again, its camping not your average neighborhood.
Yes, some of the staff definitely need a lesson in customer service and communication. Joe the owner is a wonderful, wonderful man. They havent stayed in business this long if he wasnt doing something right.
Its not the Ritz and its not the Hamptons but it is quiet, fun and an annual summer spot for us as we camp there several times during the season. Not perfect but works for us and would definitely recommend to others.
Attended the 2008 Farm Aid Concert at the Comcast Center which is only about 3 miles from the campground. Read all the negative reviews about the campground AFTER we had booked a stay for 2 nights, was a bit worried as to what to expect. . . We had none of the negative experiences. The bathrooms were CLEAN, the showers were hot. The sites are close together, but it was not a problem for us as we were not planning on hanging around the campground. I highly recommend it if you are planning to attend a concert at the Comcast Center, it is so close and convenient. The staff was pleasant and helpful, we had nothing stolen. Caution. . . if you are tenting, you better like DUCKS, they are everywhere and awake VERY early in the morning! We actually got a big kick out of them and enjoyed them. Looking forward to next season to go back.
Full of RVs. Not great for just tent campers who are looking for a night or two. Boating pond is very dirty and smelly waters. Very crowded. Average tent space is very small. Cheap for living. Closure to many areas to escape from it. Last but not least, friendly people and clean surroundings. Think twice before you sign up.
I found this campground to be clean and well worth the 32.00 per night. There are alot of older seasonals that they should probably boot out because their appearance really puts a damper on the campground, but they are scattered throughout the park.s The campground and sites themselves are really spacious and the grounds are wonderful.
There is a sufficient amount of entertainment to keep a family busy, the area is booming with things to do, Wrenthan Outlets are a short drive. The area that the campground is located in is an upper class area, nice surroundings.
The staff needs a little help in the personality department but that does not hinder the camping experience.
Overall I would say I would rather come here than pay 75. per night in the campground down the road. It was a great experience and I always camp at resort campgrounds.
They ahve so muhc going on down here all the time they have fun in the pool and games and lots of families come in this place with their kids . I love coming down with my daighter they do not charge alot and it is worth it for the day to be in all day. I have fun and so does my 3 yr old daughter. The people are very friendly and helpful and always around to find.come down you will love it too.
very clean, friendly staff. GREAT place for kids, families and even people with out kids. they have fishing, a playground, a pool and a rec. hall. There are ducks there that you can feed. People around are friendly. Some nice pull through sites available for bigger campers, nice shady areas. Some good sized sites. wonderful campground!!!
Unsupervised children at pool area. Dogs unleashed running through our site. Sites are tiny. Staffers are rude. Smoking allowed at pool while children run about. Although many rules are posted, non are obeyed or enforced. Children riding bikes after dark is against the rules, however when I was injured by one I was told I "should have moved". People in pool fully clothed "jeans" and shirts. Adults, lesbian and hetero making out in pool around kids. Too much partying as late as 4am. I felt unsafe. Many scary characters roaming about.
