The Scene
With imported wall-hangings, heavily accented waiters, and traditional Thai cuisine, this is a truly authentic Thai restaurant. A mostly local crowd stops by day and night to dine on pad thai and lethal curries while sipping selections from a surprisingly strong wine list. To the always-smiling, ever-moving waitstaff, empty water glasses are the enemy.

The Food
It takes a patient patron to sift through the never-ending menu of Thai specialties, as numerous preparations of all sorts of meats and fish are offered. Perfect for large parties (or those who can't make up their minds) are appetizer combination platters and dishes like the Siam Splendor, a platter full of beef, chicken, shrimp, scallops and vegetables that arrives at the table sizzling. Adventurous diners should opt for piquant dishes like shrimp in a garlic, chili and tamarind sauce. Put out the fire by finishing with ginger ice cream or warm coconut-tapioca pudding.

Key Points

The Inside Scoop

  1. Know Before You Go - If something on the menu looks good but you're wary of heat factor, let your server know and the kitchen will adjust the spice.
  2. The Extras - Enjoy the kitchen's award-winning cuisine in the comfort of your own home by picking up your food or having it delivered.

Really really great!

by Steve B. | insider Insider | Rank: 29,153

Wet to House of Siam last week, had never been before, but WOW, really great! And not too expensive! I had the Pad Thai, and a friend had a duck dish, which I tried. Both were very good, great portions, and the service was also very good. Even with a language barrier, good food is good food! PS: Definitely try the Thai Iced Tea (and dont be afraid of the crazy orange color!)

Deliciousssssssss

by Bella R.

House of Siam is my favorite Thai restaurant in Boston! The atmosphere is great, and the owner is really nice. We have been there a few times, and he always remembers my father's name. We order the Dumplings, Golden Bags, Pineapple Fried Rice, and Yellow Chicken Curry and all are delicious and arranged in a very pretty way! Also, last time we tried one of the duck dishes and it was good as well. The servers are very attentive. It is a little bit expensive ($65 for 4 people) but well worth it!

Great Thai!

by Erin B.

I am posting because I completely disagree with the post before this. I have lived in the South End for over 5 years and have been a loyal House of Siam customer that entire time. I think the customer service and food is great. My favorite dishes are: Tofu Green Curry and Pad See Ew. I highly recommend this restaurant...it's my favorite take out in the South End. I am psyched they opened up a new restaurant on Tremont!

VERY BAD SERVICE

by Anonymous

RUDE, CRUDE AND SOCIALLY UNACCEPTABLE = OWNER

Owner delivered my order (an hour and fifteen minutes after I called, and I'm only 3 blocks away)... and he was SOOOOOOO rude to me! The bill was $3 more than what they said it would be, and when I asked him why he said it was because people in my building don't tip, so they add $3. I told him that they advertise no charge for delivery and I always tip, and he mocked the amount I was going to tip him. Needless to say, he stole my $3 for his tip, but he will never get another penny from me or from anyone I know! Can you imagine the owner of a business acting/talking like that?

Take your $ elsewhere!! There are PLENTY of great places in the South End, but not this one!!

Good, but better eat in than take out

by SouthEnder Z. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 3,775

The South End of Boston has three Thai restaurants competing for your dollar: House of Siam, Thai Village, and Equator. One of the things that House of Siam probably has going for it is that they are spread out quite a bit. HOS displays several Best of Boston awards and the food is good. Notable dishes are the Gung Gra Bog (shrimp fried in wonton wrappers), and the traditional Tom Yum Goong soup. The decor is quite nice, though the seats at the front can be a bit cold in winter.

Having eaten here both in the restaurant and as take out, it is preferable to eat in (though the take out is respectable).

Superb!

by JayUK

There are Thai Restaurants that either have good food and bad service or bad food and good service. The House of Siam has Great Food and Great Service. I've tried them all and the House of Siam is a few notches above the rest. Generous portions at reasonable prices in a lovely dining atmosphere. A must try if you love Thsi food.

Pros: Great Food, Wines, Service

Best Thai Food

by AnthonyM

A buddy of mine from work recommended this restaurant to us. We started with Tod Mun and Chicken Satay, the Tod Mun was very tasty and the Satay with that delicious peanut sauce is addictive. For the main course our waiter recommended Chicken Basil (mild) and Panang Duck. The Chicken Basil came out perfectly spiced and delicious, and the Panang Duck was excellent, tender slices of duck with a delicious panang sauce. And Finally for desert we shared Fried Banana topped with honey and sesame seeds, that was so good. The service was warm and friendly and very helpful. This place has so many dishes and flavors we can't wait to come back.

Pros: Great Food and Service

Winning Combinations

by DonaldG

We Work at Boston Medical Center and order lunch from House of Siam several times a week. We all love the food from this restaurant, especially the lunch combinations that include siam rolls and dumplings, as if the oversized main dish wasn't enough. The food is delicious and delivered on time for our lunch break. Recently we had a birthday lunch at the House of Siam and the service was fast and friendly. I have to say they deserve the many BEST awards they proudly display.

Pros: Great Food, XL Portions, Fast Delivery

Amazing Thai Food

by RoseAndAbe

I could go on and on about the amazing Thai food at the House of Siam. Everything we have tryed on their huge menu has been outstanding! My favorite is Pad Thai, thats always perfectly cooked. My wife loves the Chicken Basil as well as the Pad C U. They give large portions at very reasonable prices. We always try something new and have never been disapointed. Save room for the Fryed Banana or Fryed Coconut Ice Cream.

Pros: Pad Thai, Pad C U, Chicken Basil, Massaman Curry, Etc. Etc.

Cons: none

Excellent, Excellent Food

by witty101

Though I have never eaten in House of Siam, I do get take out about twice a week here. As a local line cook here in the city, I have to say that I am consistently impressed by House of Siam's dedication to quality food. And that is really whats special about it: its classic Thai food done with high quality ingredients by people who know and seem to care about the food. The prices are more than reasonable, especially the lunch menu. And the service (by all the people that work there) is teriffic. Joe is especially amazing and conveys an honest desire to produce good food and great services. Hats off to House of Siam.

Wonderful Thai Food

by DaryaGamel

We have been coming here to eat for many years and enjoy it tremendously. The owner, Joe Thailand, is friendly gracious - always smiling. The waitstaff is excellent, always attentive. And the food - delicious. Our favorites are the Seafood Noodle Soup, Pad CU and Pearl Pudding.
We try to eat here once a week. When we can't, take out is prompt and the food always hot with the delivery staff courteous. We recommend this place highly.

Pros: Excellent food & service

Cons: none

Amazing Pad Thai

by johnston1504

I've been dining here for almost 10 years and the food has always been fantastic, especially the Pad Thai, Green Curry, Garlic Shrimp to name a few from their huge menu. They must have some secret ingredients for their curry, none of the other Thai places comes close. The wait staff is very helpful, always suggesting new dishes to try and getting the degree of spice perfect. I really hate going to a Thai restaurant and the menu saying one chilli and getting a overdose. Delivery comes in a reasonable amount of time, average about 45 minutes. And I must say the owner Joe Thailand is the nicest guy, I always get a warm greeting from him like I'm family. Overall great food that is far ahead of the rest, friendly helpful service and fast delivery. I give House of Siam 5 stars!

Pros: great atmosphere, service and fast delivery

Awesome owner and consistently good service, food

by laurakoz

I have been going to this restaurant for six years now and have never been disappointed. The owner, staff in the restaurant and delivery personnel have always been courteous and the service has always been outstanding. My favorites are pad thai, fresh rolls, chili chicken and nua nom thok salad. Whoever wrote the very isolated horrible reviews must be from a competitor because they have nothing to do with the reality I have seen there the last six years. This restaurant is heads above any other thai restaurant in the South End - just try the Pad Thai and you'll agree!

Pros: Best pad thai around, very friendly staff

Great Food and Fast Delivery

by JasonR

I love this restaurant! From the owners warm greeting to the attentive and friendly wait staff. On our first visit and never having dined Thai before, we asked our waiter for recomendations, he asked if we like spicy, we do but mild.
Lon recomended the Tom Yum Shrimp soup and Chicken Satay to start followed by Chicken Basil and Pad Thai.
It was 8pm and the restaurant wasn't quite full, In about 5 minutes we were served, the marinated chicken satay were large portions with a delicious peanut sauce and the Shrimp soup was perfectly mild and delicious. The Pad Thai sweet noodles were delicious and the ground chicken with onions peppers and fresh basil was perfectly spiced and so tasty. We dine here on the average of twice a week and have tried almost the whole menu and have never been disapointed. And if your a sports nut like me and its playoff time this place has fast delivery. For food, service and delivery I give the House of Siam 5 Stars and well deserved.

Pros: Endless menu of delicious food

Cons: none yet

I love this place

by ADoucette

I order delivery from this place about 3 times a week to my office in the PRU and have never had to call to ask where is my food. I am a noodles junkie and my favs are Pad Thai and Pad C U and for appetizers I love the Golden bags, crunchy wonton bags with sweet pork and corn, also the Chicken Satay with that amazing peanut sauce, I drown my Pad thai in it, yum. And when I've dined at the restauant its always prompt helpful service, and great food. This place is a winner. I guess my only complaint is waiting to be seated on a busy Friday night, but the 20 minutes was well worth the wait.

Pros: Huge portions and addictive food

I have had food at the House of Siam a couple of times and it was delicious. While we waited the waiter came over and gave us free appetizers and some tea. Very friendly. Loved the atmosphere. The only bad thing about this place was the parking. Parking was hard to find. Otherwise it was great!!!

WORST SERVICE EVER!

by pumpkinheadz

The food is just OK, but the service is the worst EVER!

I have both eaten-in and had delivery from House of Siam, and the service is the worst I have ever experienced! I ordered delivery today (2 orders of pad thai) and when it showed up AN HOUR LATER it was $3 more than what they said it would be. When I asked why it was $3 more the "delivery guy" said, "people here don't tip, so we charge more to come here." (PS: my office is literally three blocks from the restaurant...AND I ALWAYS TIP! ...and I called as soon as they opened @ 11:30)

When I told him that I didn't think there was a delivery charge (see their claims all over the internet "no extra charge for delivery"), the guy said, "I am the owner, you don't tip here, so we charge more, these drivers have to pay gas and you don't tip, gas is very expensive!!!" THIS IS THE OWNER OF THE RESTAURANT yelling at me about other people in my office building not tipping and about drivers having to pay for their own gas? WTF? When I told him that he should be ashamed as the owner to talk to a customer like that about tip money and to charge more than what they said, and that this was all made worse by the fact that this "delivery driver" and the owner are one-in-the-same, he told me that I should be ashamed because I was only giving him a $1 tip!

When I called to complain they confirmed that he was one of the owners and said his name is "Joe Thailand"... and then the guy just kept repeating "yes" after everything I said. How annoying!

I WILL NEVER GO THERE AGAIN, AND WILL TELL EVERYONE I MEET THE SAME!

There are a lot of good restaurants in Boston where they care about their customers...this is not one of them! Stay away from these rude people!

Pros: There are a lot of OTHER places in the South End

Cons: everything, but service especially

no good

by wackojacko

sorry to be a party pooper but this place is totally over-rated. i had the chicken pad thai which had a really strange after-taste (kinda like what i imagine manure to taste like). so, maybe stick to the curries.

also, a couple of hours later my stomach felt really gross. i normally have a pretty strong stomach, but perhaps they were using some cheap nasty oils which im not usually digesting. either way, the food did not sit well at all.

however, on a positive note, the thai iced teas are good there (which is the reason it's a two star, and not a one star).

overpriced

by freewilly7

overpriced thai food that's not even up to par. they have this BBQ beef (i forget if it's on a skewer or no) that is so overdone and dry, but the taste itself was good nevertheless. ambiance is great but if you're only eating the food and not the decor, you're better off elsewhere.
:)

Pros: nice ambiance, great place for dates

Cons: overpriced dishes

Avoid Delivery on Feb 14th.

by treon27

I waited 2 hours for delivery on Valentines Day for two years in a row. Last year, there was a good reason - it was a wintery mess with sleet and freezing rain and I was happy anyone would deliver. This year, I'm not sure of the reason as the roads were clear as could be. I phoned the restaurant to inquire (after 1 hour 45 mins of no food) and the pleasant voice stated the driver was en route and requested my telephone number so the manager may call me back. The manager was very nice and requested I not provide the driver a tip,as he would pay him. It is by no means the delivery drivers fault for lack of proper staffing by the restaurant and found that to be a cop out for poor management. I can imagine it is the driver that would be screwed in this situation. The food is very tasty, however no food is worth a 2 hour wait anytime. I will not order delivery from House of Siam - unless I order at 3pm for an expected 7pm dinner.

Cons: Delivery understaffed.

Fried Ice Cream trust me and get it!

by sugargal

I've gone there for lunch and dinner and the food is always great. The lunch combos are really good because you get springrolls and dumplings with the meal which is definitely not lunch sized, just be ready to be very full. At dinner my favorite dish is the pineapple fried rice which for some reason is addictive to me, I personally am not a Pad Thai person but all my friends swear by it. Definitely splurge for the thai iced tea and also the fried ice cream. If only one the fried ice cream but ask the waiter if they have it sometimes they run out. Definitely worth it without doubt.

Best Thai in Boston, hands down!

by lostredsock

Having lived most of my life in Boston and recently relocating to New York, there are many important landmarks that I miss. House of Siam is one of them! No other Thai restaurant is as warm and inviting. The food is unparalleled, I have never ordered anything there that I was not immediately in love with. It is a definite South End Gem, my only complaint is that they do not deliver to NYC.

Cons: Parking
