We missed our exit off the Pike and had to do some serious rerouting but afterward I can definitely
say it was well worth it. Luckily carried my GPS. There are so many beautiful and fascinating pieces of
artwork and artifacts and so well diversified that even if you are not an artist (like myself) you can
learn to appreciate. It seems quite improbable that all of this could be amassed in one place but
there it was. Truly amazing. Brings to mind the movie National Treasure. I just wished I had more
than a few hours to soak it all in. It really requires a couple of days. Only drawback is that maybe there
could be more areas where you could use the optional audio guide.

There are a lot of great things to say about the MFA. It's a good place to visit with a group or alone. If you're with a group, the guided tours are very informative (although slightly pricier). If you're alone, you can rent an audio tour of the museum (available in multiple languages) and check it out at your own pace. The museum even provides stools for you to sit on if you want to contemplate a particular painting in more depth. I would encourage anyone to give the museum a try. School-age kids get in free afterschool, while slightly older patrons can attend some of the museum's great events (free wine tasting! music! lectures!). Something for everyone.

No trip to Boston is complete without going to the MFA. They have a number of extremely famous pieces. My favorites are in the impressive impressionist gallery. The MFA also has a number of very interesting and controversial special exhibits each year, including such recent ones as the Ralph Lauren collection of cars, a large private collection of Ansel Adams prints, and the largest ever Gauguin collection. If you happen to live in Boston, I recommend getting a membership. Not only is it tax-deductible, but it easily covers the cost of going to the museum multiple times and includes free tickets to special exhibits!

I absolutely love spending time at the MFA! I strongly recommend you check out the impressionist room, as it is wonderfully done. The Egyptian exhibit can be extensive, but if you are interested, it is a great thing to have at your finger tips. It is a very accessible museum. You can take the green or orange line to it, and they also have their own parking on site. The special exhibits are usually quite good and are available for a long period of time. They sell out quick on weekends though, so reserve your tickets early. If you are a student, check to see if you can get free admission. Most of the area colleges get in free with their IDs.

PROS: Impressionist Room, Special Exhibits, Look and Feel of the building
CONS: Not really air conditioned but still cool

There are about a million things to see at this place. It's not cheap without student I.D. Even if art isn't your thing, you'll find something beautiful or interesting here. People with small attention spans can just move on to something else.

This place is absolutely HUGE! I was amazed by its size the first time I walked in there. I have been there 3 times and havent seen it all yet. The MFA offers an ongoing schedule of special exhibitions and daily activities including gallery talks, films, concerts, artist lectures, and family programs. They have changing exhibits so there is something new everytime you visit.

The Museum of Fine Arts is located right in the heart of Boston. It is ENORMOUS, and you can easily spend a day there, leisurely strolling from exhibit to exhibit. Even if you do spend a day, you won't be able to get through everything. It really is that big! Fortunately, your ticket allows you return admission for a week.

Admission isn't all that expensive, although you might have to pay extra for a ticket into whatever special exhibit they have. Wednesdays after 4pm, the museum admission is FREE!

PROS: lots to see and do
CONS: HUGE, sometimes crowded

Huge museum. I've been there twice, and I still haven't covered everything yet. Very comprehensive with lots of different genres. One of the best in the nation.

The MFA, as it is known to Boston natives, is well worth the trip and the price. Currently, they have an exhibit on rare automobiles owned by the famous clothier Ralph Lauren. The museum also has a great cinema that features international films. Check the website for discount dates!

PROS: World Class Art
CONS: parking

The Museum of Fine Arts is a large art museum located on the Green Line. It has good visiting exhibits usually. But my favorite thing about the museum is their summer in the garden concert series where they bring in experimental musical groups to play during a pleasant afternoon at the Museum's garden. You get to sit on the grass and relax! I saw Mum there. Also they have a film series which is quite interesting.

Allow yourself plenty of time at the Museum. You can easily spend days here, and your ticket actually allows you to return within 7 days of your first visit for free. They have a really good Egyptian exhibit, with mummies of people, cats, dogs, birds, etc. It's really neat. They usually have a special exhibit that requires purchasing an extra ticket, but in my experience this has been worth it, since the exhibit really goes into depth.

I also always enjoy shopping around at the MFA giftshop. They have a wide selection of prints, cards, T-shirts, gadgety things, etc.

The Museum of Fine Arts is not as impressive as an art museum should be in a major city. The more classical art pieces were represented adequately, but the 19th century and onward had a small, poorly chosen section of the museum. However, on Wednesdays after 4pm the museum is free. Then it is worth the money.
