Gentle Dental Boston has taken away my fear of dentist

by Susan M.

I am shocked at the reviews this office has received. I have always hated going to the dentist and had my first appointment a few weeks ago. I went to the appointment because of the location, my insurance and my tooth pain. It was actually on Halloween. I was greeted warmly by the front staff and truly felt welcomed. Dr sheikh was wonderful and very informative. I needed a crown for my broken tooth. Thomas came back to explain my co-pay and the procedure process before anything was started. I had a full understanding of the procedure and finances and felt very comfortable with the entire visit. I love this office and and have referred co-workers and my husband to go there. I actually told the staff that I have hated the dentist until now!! I was at the appointment for an hour and half and saw the professional way every patient was treated...epect great things when you go there.

Gentle Dental Boston is all about your money and not about your teeth!

by Natallia P.

Gentle Dental Boston is all about your money and not about your teeth! They have very outdated equipment, which leaks and squeaks. They are very prompt at billing you at high prices, but when it comes to customer service they are horrible. I went for a very simple service - teeth bleaching, usually takes 2 days, one day for taking impression of your teeth and then the next day pick up the trays and bleaching kit. Now is 5 weeks later and I still don't have the bleaching kit. I've been calling them and asking many times. They keep giving me ridiculous excuses like their cabinet is locked and manager is not there. The truth of the matter is that once they have your money they don't care about your satisfaction with service. Absolutely unacceptable! I still don't have the bleaching kit to this day, but after the office manager got involved, I promptly received my money back and a promise to deliver the kit to my home door steps for free.

Gentle Dental Boston,131 tremont- ARROGANT

by guest b.

Bad reviews are for a good reason and come from true experiences. Here is mine! TERRIBLE customer service, they will give you attitude from the front door when you enter the dental office and will continue through your whole visit, unless you give up! I was cold "greeted" by the receptionist Teresa without any face expression, like I do not exist. Then came the arrogant African American higenegist, who ordered to follow her without even acknowledging me. In the office, she turned her back to me and start talking to the wall, asking what was my problem in way, that sounded extremely rude! That was it,I did not have any more patience for their disrespect in such a hostile environment . I grabbed my belongings and head out the door! MEAN STAFF, ARROGANT ATTITUDE AND HIGH PRICES! All good reviews in here must be posted by the staff themselves - I am sure they are 100 % capable of doing so! RUNN FAST AND STAY OUT OF THIS TREMONT DENTAL OFFICE! By the way, wasn't surprised to see their emply office without any patients, either -I am guessing they don't need secret shoppers to spot their unprofessional and disgraceful dental services!

Dr. Lim

by F ?.

Dr. Lim is a good orthodontist. He caters to the patient's need and will use creativity and flexibility to make the most out of a complicated bite and tooth alignment (from personal experience). Also their service is economically reasonable at the gentle dental. Enthusiastically recommend their orthodontic treatment. Dr. Lim's staff are all very nice and warm and friendly.

Dr Nagy is a top dentist

by C F.

I've had the dubious pleasure of being treated by quite a number of dentists in the 5 countries I've lived (24 years in Europe, etc). Don't get me wrong, I've seen really good dentists over the years.

However, Dr Nagy stands out among all as an extraordinary dentist. Extremely professional and honest, very gentle hands, and always going the extra mile to deliver a perfect result. In my case, he has done everything from simple to complicated repairs, including very tricky crowns, and so far, perfect outcome.

I've also once had the opportunity to overhear him talking to a patient with a serious root infection (on a fractured tooth apparently) explaining why the patient couldn't "cheat" going "el cheapo". I must say admired Dr Nagy's calm way of explaining again and again in different ways -- the patient was in a state of denial. Impressive patience Dr Nagy.

Note: Dr Nagy is NOT one of those jovial kind of dentists, smiling left and right and telling jokes. However, if you want perfection and kindness, that's him. I've already referred my wife and all of our friends to him :-)

Also extra points for Dr Nagy's assistant Gee Gee and the entire staff - they started greeting me by 1st name after only 2 visits... Amazing level of dedication...

Gentle Dental Boston Has a Star Hygienist: Teresa Chow

by guixia y.

Miss Teresa Chow, the RDH, is wonderful because she always goes above and beyond. The first time I had my cleaning with her, she spotted six cavities and brought them to the attention of the dentist. I was grateful that she was more attentive and responsible than the previous hygienist. (I always keep up with my regular cleanings, and I find it hard to believe that that many cavities could have developed since my previous cleaning visit with another hygienist.) Just yesterday - after having had my cleanings with another hygienst for over a year, I went to have a cleaning, and I was glad to have her again. She spotted two cavities and turned me to the dentist. Now I hope that she will always be my hygienist because I know I will be in good hands.

Gentle Dental Boston is Outstanding!!!

by my w.

Dr. Alex Smoylar 131 Tremont Street in my opinion has****premium dental service,a professional and welcoming staff, and an uncompromising dedication to customer satisfaction. That in so many words has been mine and my childrens experience over the last 5-6 years with Dr. Smolyar and his amazing and caring staff.

I rate them a 10+ I would and have actually encouraged many unsure, possible patients to just give 131 Tremont street a try. In my opinion all it would take is one opportunity to meet Dr. Smolyar and his staff, Natalie,Teresa, Thomas, Wyle, Carisa and all the many wonderful unnamed staff and I would almost guarantee a connect. They would experience that one on one detail to care that so many service agents are missing today. I plan to stay with Dr. Alex Smolyar and his staff at 131 Tremont Street, Boston MA, because I am treated with the care and respect I deserve. Thanks everyone at 131 Tremont St. :), Mayra

Dr Smolyar - Simply the best!!!

by M M.

I highly recommend this office. I have a lot of dental issues and was happy to find this office after many other dentists disappointed me. Dr Smolyar is the best dentist I've ever had. He clearly explains procedures and next steps, makes sure I am comfortable and most importantly is very patient. The staff has always been conscientious and professional.

Gentle Dental is terrible

by Young L.

This place is terrible. I made an appointment by phone with one dentist. But they provided another one to me. That dentist gave me a huge expensive unnecessary treatment plan, which means I have to go back to see her in the next 5 or 6 years. Also, she secretly recommended some dentist outside Gentle Dental to me. I guess dentists working there do not care about the reputation of Gentle Dental, which said by me college is "terrible". Finally, I went to a family dentist, at least who cares about his own business. He gave me a good treatment.

Dr. Adler

by Anonymous ..

Dr. Adler of Gentle Dental in Boston performed a crown lengthening surgery on me. It was quite a difficult surgery but I think I was very well taken care of. Also the post-operative care was excellent. I recommend this office enthusiastically.

Patient and Dedicated Dentist -- Dr. Arnold Nagy

by F Z.

I needed a couple of permanent crown inserts for some of my badly damaged teeth. The challenges of these complicated and damaged teeth are enough to scare any dentist. Given the major obstacles and difficulties, Dr. Nagy proved his expertise in each situation. At the gentle dental tremont street in Boston, Dr. Nagy and his teammate Gee Gee really provide warm and personalized and most importantly, dedicated care for their patients. Enthusiastically recommend those seeking a dedicated, patient, gentle and honest dentist to visit this office when you are in tooth trouble.

Excellent Dentistry, Outstanding Personnel & Personalized Service

by Marc D.

I came to Gentle Dental many years ago.I changed dentist when the last one I had try to have work done on me that they had considered substandard and could lead to some serious trouble according to them, not realising that they had done the work themselves. Needless to say they were also asking for an exorbitant fee which I couldn't afford. So I went to Gentle Dental for a second opinion, and they pointed out that this work was not urgent. I am glad I went and since have had all my dental work done at Gentle Dental. The staff is very courteous and the dentists are excellent. What impressed me the most was first the honesty, second the fact that the staff isn't going through a revolving door-you meet the same people you met before, year after year, which is a sign of a healthy work environment where people take pride in their work, and third that the overall atmosphere of the office is very friendly, even jovial at times, but they take their work very very seriously. The quality of the work is outstanding. There is a real feeling of relaxation here. Not quite the impression I have had of dentists in general. And I like the fact that the service is very personalized. Every procedure is clearly explained before it is implemented, I never had to deal with any forms from my insurance after my first visit, and they can do all the work on the premises which I required.I recommend Gentle Dental to all of my co-worker-I work downtown. If you need to change dentist or if you don't have a dentist yet, in my opinion you will not find a better place to have the work done that you need.

Best dental office I have been to.

by Evan G.

I've been a patient of the Tremont Street Gentle Dental for a little over 2 years now, and Dr. Smolyar is by far and above the best dentist I have ever had. I've had acid reflux for 14 years which has wreaked havoc on my teeth, and I've been to 10 different dentists in my life. I've had plenty of experience with root canals, crowns, fillings, with both good and bad and mediocre dentists.

Two years ago I had gotten a job which allowed me to take care of my teeth, and I went to Dr. Smolyar's office at the recommendation of a friend. My teeth were in pretty bad shape, and I doubted that some of them could be saved. However 2 years later 6 root canals later, 8 crowns, and after a bunch of fillings I'm almost to the point where I have a perfect set of teeth. All of the crowns fit perfectly, and have stayed firmly in place. Every root canal was performed perfectly (sometimes pieces of the root can remain. One of my previous dentists had missed a canal... which is a very expensive mistake)

The front office staff are extremely courteous, and the supporting staff are fantastic.

This particular Gentle Dental is easily the best dental office I have ever been in. I cannot recommend them enough for someone who needs major dental work done.

Dr. Easley

by Melory J.

I have been Dr. Easley's patient for a long time since he practiced in New York and have followed him to New England area. I think it is not fair to call your doctors expensive or slimy salesmen just because they are passionate about providing what is the best for the patients' oral health and unwilling to compromise with a quick cheap fix with a lesser result . Also as far as i know, Dr. Easley never practices in California and the reason he didn't renew his Ohio license is because he was training in a hospital in New York at the time. It is fine to dislike a doctor's style or the clinic's ambiance but it is absolutely irresponsible to ruin a health professional's reputation with falsified information.

Gentle Dental

by Brandy W.

I first went to Gentle Dental this past summer after avoiding dental care for quite some time. I was impressed by the office staff and was very pleased with the treatment I received. Dr. Smoyler is very patient and attentive to his patients, making sure that they are comfortable throughout the procedures and also with the follow up appointments. The office staff is relaxed and that puts the patients at ease. I would highly recommend this office and staff, especially for those suffering from a case of "dental phobia".

Dr. Smolyar

by Natalie P.

I have been a patient of gentle dental on tremont street since 2005. My grandmother Shelia was referred by a patient of Dr. Smolyar's (Gloria Burke) whom just raved about how great her dentist is. My grandmother need full dentures on upper and lower. From the first time we entered the office we were greeted by a wonderful and very helpful staff. Dr. Smolyar and his asst. are wonderful people, he took his time with my grandmother answered all her questions. To make her story short her dentures came out great, as of today she still says that Dr. Smolyar is one of her best doctors. I myself also became a patient of Dr. Smolyar's and also have referred my mother who received her bridge work (lovely). My unlce who also will be getting bridge work...
Dr. Smolyar is one of the nicest, most understanding and Gentle dentist I have ever meet... The staff is the best in the world!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great experience

by Anonymous

Dr. Smolyar took very good care of me, explaining what my options were and what each would approximately cost. In the end, luckily, it was the least expensive option, and the procedure went by quickly and professionally.

Great option.

by Anonymous

I moved to the city 6 months ago and was due for my cleaning. A dentist saw me on my first visit, examined my mouth and x-rays were taken. I still have to do a second visit where a dental hygienist will clean my mouth (normally a DMD (Alex Smolyar in my case, nice guy) sees you and x-rays are taken, and on your second visit a dental hygienist will do the cleaning). All for 57 bucks. I have no dental insurance and though I had to go through a big hassle, but that never happened! Why 4/5 stars? Everything was seamless except the fact that my dentist had en emergency and I had to wait 30 mins.

Quality Cleaning

by Anonymous

I went to the Gentle Dental on Tremont street for a regular cleaning. They saw me quickly and didn't have a problem making an appointment. The staff was more than friendly and seemed to understand that most people don't like going to the dentist. They were great, I already made an appointment for 6 months for my next cleaning! Would most definitely recommend it.

Gentle Dental

by Jennifer W. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 1,647

I had a satisfactory experience at Gentle Dental. There was a bit of a run-in with my lack of insurance but once that was taken care of I was able to get my yearly check-up just fine and without much hassle. I didn't really develop a rapport with the dentist who saw me here, and that's important to me so I only went here once. The wait time wasn't too bad and they were somewhat helpful with my insurance issues.

Rude, unhelpful

by Wendy S. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 11,077

Their new patient offer is nice but the service is not the best. Staff can be rude at the front desk. I found that two of the dentists were not helpful and referred me to a third. It was a frustrating experience.
