Reviews for Animal Emergency Care

Ratings_icons Animal Emergency Care is good to have for emergencies

Ellie H.

I have taken my cats here several times over the past 17 or so years. Twice they were very very sick and did not make it. But I was impressed with the efforts made by all the doctors and the compassion they showed to me and my family in a difficult time. Every time my pets were treated well and efficiently. It is very expensive, but they are very upfront about the costs and will not do anything you don't approve first. It is not a substitute for the regular vet, but for those of us in the area it is a comfort to know they are there for true emergencies.

On Saturday I had an emergency- my chinchilla was sick. I called the emergency care and they were not helpful. They professed to know very little about chinchillas and indicated that they did not want to see my pet. They referred me to somewhere else after putting me on hold- a place that was over an hour away. In the time it took for me to find someone who MIGHT see my pet, he had already passed away. I'm disgusted by the way this establishment handled themselves.

Ratings_icons Too expensive and we only liked one of the vets we saw.

It is true that you might not get the same vet twice. We took our Lab there on a Saturday night and saw Dr. Watson who was wonderful. She explained all of our options and helped make the decision to keep him there in the hospital. We spent several thousand dollars. Unfortunately, we had 3 other doctors - Dr. Barnshart, Dr. Hansen, and Dr. Dorazio - over the next several days and it was obvious that none of them were as compassionate as Dr. Watson or did they seem to be as educated as she was. So, we recommend you call ahead and see which doctor is working before you take your beloved pet to Animal Emergency Care because you might not get to see a good vet. You could always just go to one of the real emergency centers like Tufts' or Angell veterinary emergency if you have the time to go the extra half hour to their office.

I had an emergency with my dog and they were the only vet open- I was so thankful! My dog was very sick and they took care of him quickly and efficiently. I had to go back less than a day later as symptoms returned and they didnt charge me for another office visit. Prices are very high so only go for emergencies, but I have never heard of cheaper emergency care. They reviewed the bill with me before charging me and didnt do anything I didnt want them too. Only con is that many vets rotate thru this office so chances are you wont get the same one two days in a row.
