Reviews for Abington Animal Hospital

Ratings_icons Great, quality care

Erin G.

4+ stars for the care that my dog received over the years. We purchased our lab from Dr. Curtin 12 years ago, and we've received nothing but the best care from this practice. Most recently we have seen Dr. Anna - she is amazing. Spot on with her care and compassion for the pet and owner. My brother in law is a vet, and my sister is a vet tech, so I consult them both, and they have always agreed with what Dr. Anna and Dr. Curtin have said.

I whole heartedly agree that some of the front desk staff are less than polite. That said, I think it has gotten better than years past, so maybe they are trying to work on this. I too have had trouble getting them to answer the phone, and have had to wait for a long time. On the flip side, when my dog was sick, they were able to accomodate me with an appt.

The waiting area isn't the cleanest (to say the least). But Abington is better than the TWO other vets that I had been to since I've moved out of the immediate area, which is why I continued to drive 45 minutes to bring my dog here.

I had to bring my dog in to be euthenized 6 monthes ago, and I was received with MUCH compassion by the front desk staff, I didn't have to wait long, and we were able to spend as much time as we wanted to with our pet. I will return to Abington animal hospital when we get our new puppy!

Ratings_icons The rudest staff!!!!!

Chris s.

I Had a dying animal and Cindy treated me like I was worthless...Cindy....You should be ashamed of yourself!!! You are one of the most rudest,Uncompassionate, Nastiest people I have ever encountered!!! You truly are a MONSTER!!!!! You over book people and the wait time is rediculous!!! You use foul language and you are extremely rude to clients..... You have no copmassion for animals.. What the hell are you doing in this business!!! and for the rest of the staff You all should be ashamed of what you represent...

This was my first and last time in this office and i will make sure I tell people about the discusting way the staff of this practice treats clients!!!! I watched the way she spoke to clients and the way she talked to people on the phone.. I can hardly believe how such a nice VET can employ such a rotten person and staff! I would not reccommend going to this hospital ever!! I am outraged....

It's really too bad because Dr. Curtin is affordable and very sweet...But is at fault for not recognizing who he has hired and how they treat the clients... shame on you too Dr. Curtin! If I ever encountered CINDY on the streets I would probably spit in her face for the way myself and especially my pet was treated! I can't even believe that I am talking like this but this how horrible and angry that girl made me feel!!! Don't ever bring your pet there!!!!

Ratings_icons This place is awful!!

Jill M.

I recently bought a new puppy and obviously had a lot of questions for the staff and on our first visit I waited in the waiting room for an hour for my appointment. Went i finally got to see the vet, they did not introduce themselves. They rushed me out the door as quickly as they could and barely answered any of my questions. I realize they are a busy place, I work at a very busy hospital myself. But to not reach the needs of their patients and owners is not right.

The wait has always been over an hour, one day it was an hour and 45 minutes for a 5 minute visit. They have NEVER introduced themselves to me. I still dont know what doctor is who....

The woman at the front desk ignores you. She was recently on the phone the other day ignoring me on a personal call, or I would hope it was a personal call, since she was using foul language!

I had a question regarding my puppy to be spade, and since this is all new to me I wanted to discuss the fact that the vet (dont know who..) told me my puppy could be spade at 4 1/2 months. I didn't feel that was accurate, so when i called requesting one of the vets call me back for an answer as to whether i should wait, they NEVER returned my phone call.

I wont go back, my puppy deserves better!

Ratings_icons Abington Animal Hospital should not be called a hospital at all

Bill B.

I took my American Bulldog to Abington after my parents have taken all of there smaller dogs there, there entire life. I took him there to get fixed, and dropped him off before i went to work. then i got a call about 6 telling me hey would not be able to do the surgery becasue my dog is to aggresive. i said " alright will it be ok, i i pick him up at 8:30 when i get out of work" he said yes. so when i got there they had me go get him becasue everyone was to afraid of him. when i seen him in the cage he was covered in blood and they said he must have bit his gums while trying to bite at the cage. so before leaving i noticed his teeth were messed up and i metioned it to them and they said it should be fine, but if theres any problems by tommorw bring him back in. so through out the night he continued to bleed,i ended up having to throw out his bed because it looked like someone slit the wrist on his bed. Anyways i brought him back in in the morning, which if they cared about animals they wouldnt have even let me take him home, they ended up having to pull 6 of his teeth and stiching up his gums. and after all of this i recieved no phone call asking how he was!!! so i ended up taking him to Marshfield animal hospital, whic was very nice, good people that were very nice, and you know what a smile still goes a long way Abington, and they have excellent vets there. and get this i took my dog there to make sure his stiches were done correctly and to get some more shots, and the vet actually called me the next day asking how my dog was.

Just found out another odd thing last night, a person that i know took there American Bulldog to Abington a couple years back, took him in to get fixed and his dog died over night...coincidence... looks like they just cant care for big bully breed dogs.

Ohhh one more thing they told me my dog was aggresive.... if my dog is so aggresive then how does my two year old niece walk up to him pick up his ear and wisper into it all the time. She even tells him to get in his cage at home all the time and my do listens. so aggresive i dont think so... unless he was provoked!

Ratings_icons Abington Animal Hospital is the best!

Mary H.

I am sorry that some people complain that they had such a long wait. I have also waited. Did it ever accure to them the wait was long because the vets are doing a thorough job in taking care of our pets. I have seen how thorough they are and how caring and sympathetic they are there. I have been going there for over 25 yrs. I tried other vets and went right back to Abington. I recently had to put my Lab down (she was very old) the staff was very sympathetic and helped me through the whole ordeal. They also helped my dad when he had to put his (capanion) cat down. They even offered to get my dad another cat when he's ready. My dads ready now and when we get that cat it will be treated and cared for by the doctor and his staff at the Abington Animal Hospital. Thank you all for everything you do for our pets and us. I appreciate you all.

Ratings_icons The best is worth waiting for

Lurane R.

Yes, sometimes the wait is long! BUT I also have walked in with my dog in my arms and was taken straight to the examing room! I would NEVER complain about waiting for a normal exam when you get the service we did when it was an emergency!!!
These vets are worth waiting for and I hope you think enough of your animals to stop complaining. If you don't have to wait, it means the vet hasn't got many patients -- is that a good sign??!!!

Ratings_icons Dr. Curtin is wonderful with all animals

Judith H.

I have been going to Dr. Curtin for years with my cats and now with my pug. I wouldn't change my vet for anything, I absolutely love the treatment my pug gets there. Yes, I do agree that the people up front need to get some "people skills" but all in all I am very happy with the Veteranarians and the clinical staff.

The women up front give this place a BAD reputation. Dr. Curtin should pay a little more attention to how his clients are treated before he gets to see them.

Ratings_icons Abington Animal Hospital is a horrible atmosphere

Jane D.

personally i hate that place. not only can you never catch anyone on the phone when you finally do make an appointment and go there you wait for 45 min to an hour each time!

One time i brought my dog there and sitting in the waiting room with me 16 at the time and my mom we met this man and his dog that was about to be put to sleep. My mom and i got to know these 2 after talking for some time. Anyways.. they got called before we did and they were in their for along time so we got called 5 minutes later for the vet just to look at our dogs eye. We waited for the vet in the exam room for 10 minutes while in the exam room next to us the put the dog we got to know to sleep practically right in front of us. we heard everything and saw them drag the body away. Not only was it aweful for me to observe it had to been uncomfortable for the owner (a big man) have to greeve infront of other people! This place has a wonderful vet.. the front desk people are not so great and i wouldnt reccomend anyone wasting their time.

Ratings_icons Abington Animal Hospital is in need of New front desk staff

susan r.

I was in the Office Today and could not believe how the girls at the front desk treated a young women who came in with a very small kitten that she had found in her back yard, it was very clear to me and everyone sitting there that this caring young women wanted to get some kind of medical help for the baby kitten, it sounded like they had told her to bring the kitten in and then after they saw him they refused to help her. Dr. Curtain has been my Vet for many years, I can not say enough good things about him and his Wife. I do not believe he would have refused this young girls help. I can not believe that these girls are allowed to run a front desk, and treat caring people the way they do, in front of other customer no less. Maybe it's time they got jobs that they have less contract with the public, before this Great Vet loses a lot of customers.
Move on Girls, it's getting old. I just hope that the little kitten makes it.

Ratings_icons Jack & Crew

SMS S.

I've been going to AAH for years - Jack has an extremely busy practice, that's why he's not taking any new clients. His care of the animals is great - he treats his clients well, doesn't run up a huge bill (needlessly), and doesn't lecture unlike some other vets I've had. BUT you have to wait to get in to see him. That's my only gripe with AAH. The wait is generally 30-45 minutes, even with a scheduled appointment, but that's what happens with a busy medical practice. When was the last time anyone got in to see their own primary care physician without a 30 minute wait? Emergencies come up - the vets get called away to care for large animals and emergency situations. It happens. A couple of years ago my dog started convulsing at home. I rushed him to AAH, but he died in the parking lot - I ran into a crowded waiting room and asked for help and EVERY vet and tech in the place dropped what they were doing to help me. I'm sure that not one person in the waiting room objected to waiting a little while longer because frankly, it's more important to give care to an animal in need than worry about someone getting in within five minutes of their appointment time. People need to get their priorities straight and realize that Jack isn't a concierge vet - he cares for as many pets as possible as quickly as possible, but sometimes it takes time. As for his front office staff, they can be a little brusque, but I think sometimes the public just expects too much from people standing behind a counter. They do their jobs - if they're not warm and fuzzy, so what? They've always been efficient and courteous to me. But overall you can't find a better vet anywhere.

I have known Dr Lauren since we were kids (Lauren and I grew up riding horses together at my Mom's place where she kept her first horse for many years!!) and she is a wonderful Vet!! As is her HUSBAND! Dr Jack Curtain! They are dedicated to their animal patients and as far as the front desk staff is concerned, walk a mile in their shoes before you judge! I know for a fact people are more crazy about their pets care sometimes then their kids care!!! I realize some people are just not as "warm & fuzzy" as some think they should be, get over it....they care way more about the animals then the money for sure!!!

Ratings_icons I will NEVER return to the Abington Animal Hospital!

John F.

I whole heartedly agree with the above review (Susan H). I was very pleased with the vet in my first two visits here but I was furious with the USELESS front desk "woman"! I had an appointment last night and this being only my 2nd visit here I did not think or know to check in with the 4 oblivious women behind the counter seeing as I was the ONLY ONE in the place. I arrived for my appointment 10 minutes early. I walked in the front doors to the vacant "waiting" area while the 4 mindless women behind the counter all looked up at me without speaking a word to me so I sat down. Not one of them asked if I had an appointment or what time my appointment was or "how are you doing today"? One of the 4 RUDE women was talking on her cell phone behind the counter; a second "woman" with WAY too much make-up on was reading a magazine; a third heavy set "woman" was playing on the computer while a 4th walked around behind the counter doing NOTHING! I guess shame on me for assuming that they would think that I was there to see the vet!! As I sat there, a couple of people came in and their pets were seen before my dog so once again shame on me for assuming as I figured that the others had appointment times before mine! 25 mins after my appointment time a woman walked in the front doors and went to the counter and "checked" in. I decided to do the same so I went to the counter 25 MINS after my scheduled appointment time and told them that I've been here and my appointment was 25 mins ago. Apparently none of them saw me walk in to the empty waiting area because 2 mins after telling them I was here I was called in by the vet!!?? My disgust for this place will have me going above and beyond simply writing this review. I will try and find out who the owner/manager is and voice my horrible experience to them. However I do feel that the "help" behind the counter are related to the owner/manager as someone else suggested in their review. If they are not related they need to be FIRED! The reason for my 2 stars are simply for the wonderful vet that I've had on both of my visits. I would give her 5 stars but I don't want to mislead the readers of my review. For your own sake and sanity DO NOT waste your time with the Abington Animal Hospital!!

Ratings_icons love the vets

susan h.

Love the vets...but the front desk staff...not so much. Ive worked in customer service, public relations and health care and the front desk people have really poor service skills. If you cant handle a busy office you are not up to the task of running this office and should seek employment elsewhere. One can only assume the receptionists are relatives why would he keep them. But I'm there for the low cost and good vets. Ive learned to laugh at the antics in the front of the house.

Very hard to review when you can't even get someone to pick up the phone, I've been trying for 3 days now. They either have the answering service on, which I got disconnected from or they simply don't pick up the phone. I JUST let the phone ring 9:40am on a Thursday about I'd say 15+ rings, no answer. Not gonna try anymore.

I've brought all my pets to Abington Animal Hospital and they have always done a wonderful job! The doctors are caring, and take their time with your pet. I agree with other posters that Drs. Curtin and Lauren are NOT all about the money. They truly love the animals. Their fees are very reasonable and it's with good reason that their waiting room is always full!!! I have also noticed that some of the front desk staff are lacking in people skills, and I've often felt "rushed" if I had to call them on the phone to ask a question, but all in all, I love this office and wouldn't go anywhere else!

I thought the doctor and the techs did a good job.

The customer service and front desk people were very rude. Cindy works at the desk. While I waited with my new kitten I watched her rude behavior with three straight customers.

The prices are great and the medical care is very good. The customer service is severely lacking.

Ratings_icons Ryley Loves you guys!!!!

Katie M.

We have a four year old Jack Russell who is mischievious and gets into everything. Last Easter he chewed a tennis ball in up and swallowed two good sized pieces. He stopped eating, and was lethargic, and broke out into this crazy rash. We took him to VCA in weymouth, because it was open 24 hours. They were compassionate, and thourough, but they wanted to keep Ryley for observation for four days at a cost of $2800.00. This was just to give him fluids and observe him. We decided we would stay home and observe him instead. They did not treat him in any way. They x-rayed him, insisted that what he swallowed were bones (I insisted that they were peices of a ball), and sent us home. The bill? $750 (higher than usual because it was Sunday AND a holiday).
First thing Monday we made an appointment with Dr. Curtain at Abington Animal Hospital, Ryley's normal vet. Dr. Curtain assured us Ryley would be fine, Gave hime some med to help him pass it, and told us to call him if he had not passed it in 24 hours. He did not, and when we called, they took us right in and he did something else to help him. Ryley was tennis ball free within 20 minutes from that appointment. Total bill for both apointments was $70 (with medication). He was kind, compassionate and confident in his course of treatment. That made my husband and I calm down, and most importantly, Ryley was back to his wild self that day.
We would never bring him anywhere else if we could help it. They have handled his neutering (with an undecended testicle), his routine appointments and immunizations. The staff isnt always warm and cuddly, but they are competent and busy.
Thanks guys!

I don't know what I would have done without him. He was always there to help my pets. He is not all about the money. He truly loves animals. If it was not for him my dog Haley would not have had five beautiful pups. We thank him so much for his hard work and dedication as well as the other vets that work with him Dr. Lauren and forgive me if I forgot to mention any other names my memory is not the best, but they are all great there.Dr. Curtains son Jesse gave me some good advise about pups with hernias and showed me how sometimes you can push it back in when there little and it will heal. I have been using Dr curtain for over 10 years . this is a wonderful clinic . we go for the care our pets get . and the reasonable billing . They have treated our goats , cats ,rabbits and rats . as well as barn calls to the horses at a barn I used to manage .
Please remember this is a very very busy small office and the staff are very busy . they are not there to hug and coddle you . they are there to serve the animals and make the office run as smoothly as possible .and to try to get the patients in and out in an orderly manner, there are often 10-20 customers and patients in the lobby as well as several on the phone line . the girls work hard and if they are not always as pleasant as you think they should be it may be with good reason ,as they are often multi tasking , the pet owners can be demanding and at times there are other things that may affect ones mood . I have found they give me very good care and service . we just recently had a pet rat neutered and I was very pleased
They are not a 24 hour emergency center . so it is not fair to complain when they are not available 24/7

This review has been updated:
To the person who had your cat's teeth cleaned and when you called the answering service answered, at least someone picked up the phone.... I understand they are not a 24/7 vet however, an answering machine or even a webpage (in this day and age -very simple) giving their hours would be very helpful. Again, I'm not talking about a 2am call, I'm talking about Tuesday afternoon or Saturday mornings.

I've gone to them several times and I do like them. I had a problem with our small dog having a bad reaction to a rabies shot, he actually blew up and was heading into anaphylactic shock, we caught it in time but no thanks to that office. They gave no warnings regarding this breed (a pug) being pre-disposed to this type of reaction. Thankfully, I always keep children's benadryl around and that saved him. The office wasn't too supportive when I called them back the next day but I chalk it up to how are they supposed to know who's going to react and who isn't. A slight warning would have been nice though.

Again, I still go back to this office and Dr. Curtain is a wonderful Dr. He truly cares about animals and loves his work. That counts for a lot, so many vets out there are all about the $$, he's one of the few that does it for the love of the animals. They have been treating our livestock as well as "regular" pets for years. For that, I'll remain faithful, even if that means making several calls over a few days, till I eventually reach someone.

I would also like to say that this is just my personal experience as well as my opinion. Some people have wonderful things to say, some not so wonderful. Either way, this is a review of a combination of people that feel strong enough about either the subject matter or facility to actually write. Everyone has to come to their own conclusions.

I was very nervous about getting my puppy neutered after reading the review since my last dog had a heart attack in my son's arm while he was walking him. My son could not lose another dog. I spoke to the staff about my concerns and they assured me that Dr Curtin has an excellent track record and my puppy Rosco would be fine. Ratings_icons The BEST Vet Ever!!!!

Patricia S.

I have been bringing my pets to Dr. Curtain for about 14 years now and I will NEVER go to another Vet EVER. Dr. Curtain is a straight shooter and is very up front and honest. He is a Vet for the right reasons because he cares about animals not the pay check. He never runs a ton of tests and xrays to run up a bill, if he recommends any tests it is because the pet really needs them. He is extremely knowledgeable and very compassionate. He truly cares about the health and quality of life of your pets. I have been through some serious illnesses with my dogs and I could not even imagine what it would've been like to have gone to another Vet. His rates are very very affordable and very caring. I will never go to another Vet ever. He is the VERY BEST that there is!!! I would and have recommended him to many and they will never go to another Vet either.

We have been bringing our pets to the Abington Animal Hospital for years now. I cannot say enough good things about them in regards to their pricing and care. They are amazing when it comes to their fees, ecspecially for people on a tight budget. I recently had to bring my cat in, he ended up having to stay there for almost a week because he had an infection. We were very nervous, we got a call from the vet explaining everything and were told we could always come and visit aswell. It was very comforting to know he would be ok, and when I asked about how much approx this would be costing us, I couldn't even believe my ears when they told me the amount, grateful doesn't even do it justice. Any other place would have charged 10 times as much!

Thank you!

I wrote a review on here a long time ago when my dog passed away, but I feel I must revise it. A year ago, my 11 month old chocolate lab was brought in to AAH to be neutered, and he passed away overnight. At the time I was furious and brokenhearted and wrote a review in the grip of my misery. This was entirely not fair of me. I had called them out on not taking care of my dog, but this was not the case-all procedure had been followed correctly, my pup's time had just come. No fault of the doctors. Since then (and even before) Dr. Curtin has been just amazing. He felt horrible over my loss, and found away to bring another labrador into my life. She (the new dog) in turn has since had puppies (one of which I also own, along with the father), and we have continued to bring all of our pets to AAH. Yes, the receptionists sometimes leave a lot to be desired, but the doctors at this hospital are amazing in their compassion, understanding and general knowledge of the pet-to-person relationship. I wouldn't go anywhere else in the world.

Ratings_icons Wonderful!!!

I needed to get my Chi puppy spayed and was trying to decide where to go as I recently moved to the North Shore. My mom always brought all of our dogs to Abington Animal Hospital and loved the care that they received. It's been over 13 years since we as a family have been going there. Although it's rather a far drive for me, I decided to go there anyway.
I can't say enough good things about the way that things turned out. My Chi was only 3 lbs and one of the young women dr's there was nervous about doing the surgery. She asked me to have my Penney gain weight, so we tried for the next 2 weeks to have her gain 2 lbs. Well, it didnt happen (not even close!) and I brought her in the night before the surgery, and the owner (other vet) said that he would be able to do her. Although I was advised my the vet techs that it could be dangerous, I decided to go through with it anyway as the chances of her gaining weight are so slim.
He (the vet- cant remember his name!) was wonderful! He finished up with Penney in the morning, and although they said that it wasnt usually done until after lunchtime, she was done by 3 and I was able to bring her home the same day! I was so nervous and my fears were really calmed after that.
Other than the outstanding care by the Vet and the sweet girls at the front desk who always remembered Penney, the best thing that I really can say about this place is the value. It really is the least expensive place on the South Shore, and the honesty and integrity that is shown there is superior. They never tell you anything is wrong with your dog just to tack on extra fees like many places do and they are very fair with pricing. I used to bring Penney to Hancock Animal Hospital in Quincy for her shots and check ups, but will be switching to Abington for her next rounds due to the price difference.
I noticed that a couple of the reviews were bad- and I think that they are crazy. But, like everything else, people really just complain to complain, and you are always going to have that no matter where you go. As for me, Abington Animal Hospital now has a customer for life!

I dropped my cat off this morning to get her teeth cleaned. Since it is a deep cleaning, she needed to be put under anesthesia and kept overnight. I asked if I could receive a phone call after the procedure was completed to make certain everything went okay.

I know this is a pretty routine procedure but I was a bit nervous and just wanted to hear that everything was okay.

I was told I could call after 2:30 pm. I called at 3:00 pm and was forwarded to an answering service who told me (very grumpily) that the hospital was closed and would not re-open until tomorrow morning.

I find it reprehensible that I was not told that they would be closing at 3:00 pm. I am outraged that after expressing concern this morning, the staff neglected to mention that they would be closing at 3:00 pm when they told me I could call AFTER 2:30 pm.

Once I retrieve my cat in the morning, I will NEVER visit this clinic again.

Ratings_icons Helpful After Surgury

Gayle D.

My puppy Harley had surgury last week at Abington Animal Hospital. I found the staff from the time I dropped her off to the next day we picked her up very sweet.

Following surgury I found Harley being constipated and I called and talked to Cindy on how to help Harley. I found her to be very helpful and supportive.

I just have to say that the front desk staff will sometimes act like the doctors (in telling you what is best for your animal) when they don't know what they're talking about. I'm a medical professional, and when I called for a standard maintenence medication refill last fall, I was berated for endangering my dog's life for waiting a day before calling.

I happen to know that this medication is ok to skip a day (and is often done so to titer the dosage) -- so endangering my pet's life was NOT the case, but the secretary at the front desk decided to lecture/yell/berate me -- though I knew she didn't know what she was talking about. I let her go on, and just scheduled an appointment.

That said, Dr. Curtin is a professional, and he's got a good instinct for what's going on with a dog or a cat. I can say this because most vet practices are 30% science/testing, 30% vet medical training, and 40% instinct/experience, since the animals can't tell you what's wrong...that 40% expertise is pretty important. A good vet has to go on instinct sometimes. Dr. Curtin and the other vets there have that expertise, so I trust my animals to their care.

Advice to the practice: Tell your secretaries to stop lecturing pet owners. I'm looking down this thread and I'm thinking I'm not the only one who gets bullied by the front desk. I was a bit shocked when I was lectured by a secretary. If she wants to be a vet, send her to school, but tell her to shut up.

This is especially important when the secretaries don't know what they're talking about. If I was a less knowledgable person, I'd have been in tears thinking I'd endangered my pet's life, rather than simply skipped a pill day. If they don't have the medical training, they have no right to be critical and should not play with the emotions of their pet owners.

I'm posting anonymously because I don't want to get bullied. :)

We got a puppy in late November. I had always gone to Roberts Animal Hospiatal in Hanover but they were taken over by VCA and had gotten very expensive. So I called Abington on the advice of a friend. I called on December 1. I was immediately put on hold for almost 10 minutes before even asking what I was calling about. If this had been an emergency there could have been some serious consequences. When Cindy finally answered the phone I told her I would like to bring my puppy in for shots. She then asked me how old the puppy was. And when I told her she was 9 weeks old and had not yet had her first round of shots she berated me for being late in getting them, which I knew but I could not help. She then asked me when I wanted to come in and I said any morning before noon. She told me if I wanted an appointment soon I was going to have to be more flexible than that. ( Which I thought was being pretty flexiblae) She then offered me an appt in 3 weeks for 2:30 in the afternoon. When I told her this would not work because I work in the afternoon, she then gave me a Appt for Jan 20th. Which was six weeks later. When I inquired if this was the first available she said "we are a very busy practice". So after being nasty to me about being late in getting the shots she then wanted me to wait 6 weeks.

So after dealing with that I called Marshfield Animal Hospital on a reccomendation from my sister. They could not have been more pleasant to deal with and got me in within 5 days instead of 6 weeks. So even thought it is a further drive it is worth it. We have been there 3 times now and have had an excellent experience all 3 times and the prices are reasonable. So my recommendation would be forget about Abington and head to Marshfield!

I have a 2 yr old boxer. I love him to death, Since i've had him hes had a hand full of heath issues, My most recent was when my dog had his ACL replaced he ended up getting extremely sick. I took my dog to Angell memorial.(because they are open 24/7) They admitted him and kept him for 2 weeks almost 2000.00 dollars later i get my dog back still very sick and prescribed Pepcid ac. He had lost 20 pds still wasnt eating, puking, and had diaria. I took him to Jack at Abington. He kept him for 4 days ran tests and gave him medication, He started to eat again, wasnt throwing up, hes stool was still soft but hes was getting better, He sent him home with anit biotics. Took him about a month but he was back to normal. Charge for his stay there less than 500.00. I will never again bring him to any other place but AAH.. Ps. Rommel(my dog) Thanks you Jack,, ~ Ariel Dorchester,MA

Ratings_icons Abington Animal Hospital - Professional and reasonable

I have been taking my 3 cats and 1 dog to AAH for almost 3 years. Dr. Curtin is so quick and professional yet kind and compassionate. They are busy, but I prefer to wait rather than make my pets go on a longer drive. Last spring I went to a new vet for my dog, I said "there's something wrong with his stomach; he needs an xray". She suggested trying a new food and waiting a month. He died. I don't know if it would have been different at AAH but is certainly is alot cheaper. I wish I didn't pay one third more for that service!

Ratings_icons great place

I have taken dogs, rabbits and guniea pigs and hamsters to Abington Animal Hospital and always got good service. I've been to other places that order tons of high end tests that in the end, made no difference to the pet's care. Just a big fat bill. Abington is a very busy office but I have always recieved very polite service over the last 12 years. When I had to put my dog down they treated me like I was the only person there and they were so compassionate. I'm not sure if a professional undertaker could have been more sensitive and kind. I think this is the best kept secret around.

Ratings_icons I couldn't ask for more

Roxanne M.

I have four pets and have been bringing them to Abington Animal Hospital for 10+ years. Recently my16 year old cat had become very ill; I have had to bring him in a few times and my co works thought my bill should have been in the thousands from all the testing and treatment given. (Not even two hundred) I have had to call for test results and was always been treated as if it was my child, sometime better then my doctors office. Unfortunately, he had kidney failure and diabetes, so we had to put him down. Dr. Anna Chojnack-Duf was so great, I could not ask for more; thanks for the great service.

Remember everyone has a bad day and the amount of people who go there for their great price and dedication to our pets, makes it like the emergency room everyday. I would recommend them to anyone as they were recommended to me by a good friend who still uses them too.

My first impression of this place was they had horrible customer service. As soon as I walked in the door The lady at the desk made me feel as if I was unwelcomed. She did not seem to be someone that enjoyed working with pets which made me a little weary to leave my dog with her. None the less I left and the services I asked for were provided, The rates were reasonable and my dog came back ok. I wouldnt run around telling all my friends about this place, I'm not sure if I would go back.

To consolidate and the above and clarify: If you're looking for the Taj'mhal, you're not concentrating on the care of your animals. If you're concerned with the office staff, whom shuffle papers and complete transactions, they're actions are not affecting the care of our animals. As far as scheduling goes, if they are busy that is a good thing, because, us in the local community, have a firm belief in the their care for our animals (babies). The MSPCA is nearby if you need an emergency visit. When was the last time anyone reading this went to your family physician for an emergency visit? For example, a compound fracture. If a sore ear is an emergency, you are overreacting. Man invented acetamenophine, and u don't need an appointment to relieve discomfort.

I have the utmost respect for the staff and vets that care for my animals and they have always taken extra steps to ensure I am informed and that my animals are healthy and happy. They are an animal care center for all of your pet needs, and a lot of people know they are the best around.

I have been going to Abington Animal Hospital with my dogs for at least 10 years. I have always found Cindy and the rest of the staff at Abington Animal Hospital to be very understanding and compassionate. Dr. Curtin will tell you like it is and not suggest unnecessary tests, as many other hospitals do.

I find the more understanding and tolerant you are of people, the more they are of you. You have to be prepared to wait, but I have never felt rushed once my animals are being examined which is the important part of the visit.

I have the highest regard for Dr. Curtin and his daughter Lauren. They are both empathetic. However, for years his office staff has been most unprofessional and totally lacking in personal attention. They are the reason many feel it's a "get them in and get them out" clinic. Cindy should have been fired years ago - or sent to a "finishing school" to acquire much needed polish as does some young girl who works at the counter and has trouble putting a sentence together - let alone really listening to the customers and empathizing with them. Dr. Curtin is 1st rate! and he goes the extra mile for his patients. But shame on him for allowing this office staff to continue being so unprofessional. The inmates are running the prison!!

The first few times it was ok and the treatment was good but I just went to get my dogs nails clipped and when I left there, I felt as though the daggers were flying in my back when I left the place. I agree with the first reviewer that posted but for the price, it's good for nails/vaccines. It's a low-cost alternative to keep your pets up to date on their shots etc...but If you have the money to spare, go to a better place. It's not the most sanitary place either.

I have been using this clinic for my cats and dogs for many years now. Although it is always difficult to get an appointment scheduled quickly (unless it is an emergency), the wait is well worth it as the staff are attentive, caring and professional. I completely trust them with my babies!

I have used this animal clinic for years and one time one of my dogs hurt his foot and the other one had a sore ear. I called for an appt and they had lost some of their vets so they could not see me for a week. I was not pleased. but other than that they have great prices and the vets are wonderful.
