Not a bad place but the staff is REALLY RUDE. This is NOT a good service for $8 beers. I mean where did they get those characters. Bartender (Heather?), one of the security fellas (Michael), the manager (Jeff?) will probably score the top 3 of "the rudest staff in Boston" competition. My advice is to check this place out but not after 6PM - otherwise you may be in for quite an unpleasant experience. DO NOT GO THERE WITH A DATE, at all.

Pros: location

Cons: some of the staff are real bar nazis

Drinks are always on point! Usually a decent amount of people who love to come out on Tuesdays and hang out at this great bar to hear people belt out some tunes! Not your average Karaoke bar where the older drunk people love to go sing...you have a young fresh crowd who definitely love to have a good time. The DJ is awesome always giving everyone a fair chance to show off on stage. Great on weekends too! LOVE THIS PLACE!

Great place for getting a couple of beers with friends. They serve typical tavern fare. They have two floors, one with a band and the other with a DJ. They accommodate for private parties as well. Always a good time!

Bell in Hand is one of my favorite places to go in Boston. It's a great place to go four some beers on a summer afternoon because they open their windows in the front room. On weekend nights, it gets really crowded and you'll often have to wait in line, but the crowd is generally fun (especially when there's a band), and the drinks aren't too expensive. They used to have karaoke on Tuesday nights but the last time I was there it wasn't happening, so I'd recommend calling first if you're going to sing.

I have been going to the Bell in Hand for karaoke for a while now. I always have a great time. The song selection is superb. There must be over 50,000 karaoke songs to choose from. The stage is great with bright lights and the song words projected on a screen behind you. The karaoke DJ is very friendly and professional. He has a great sound system. You can hear your self sing unlike other venues I have sang at.
I think the Bell In Hand is the best spot to be whether you sing or not on a Tuesday Night.

This place is great. You only pay one cover charge to get in (between 5 and 10 bucks), but it's like being in 3 different bars at once. Right when you walk in they have a very casual low-key sports bar like hang out spot where most of the older crowd hang out for a beer. When you walk around the corner, you're in the most populated spot of the bar, which is a large downstairs area where the live bands play. This is mostly college kids. It's a great spot to people watch and meet people. When you go upstairs, it's a DJ who plays hip hop and top 40 or basically anything else you request. This is mostly where the hotter girls and hip hop crowd come to hang out. Lots of bachelorette and bday parties here. Most importantly there is a bathroom on both floors! I've never had to wait in line either. The drinks are really good, and not at all high priced. They have a friendly staff who have no problem making you a new drink if you're not satisfied. No matter what you like, you'll find it here!

Cons: None that I can think of.

Honestly - Not a bad bar. If you're up for a good time and don't mind the pub appeal, this place is fine.
Good to decent bands downstairs but the DJ upstairs stinks. This bar caters to both bands (downstairs) and DJ's (upstairs) so maybe they should consider using a "real" DJ not a KARAOKE one. FYI dude...No one cares who sings the songs you're playing! Stop announcing the artist!

This is one of those bars that keeps a line outside to make it look appealing. There was nothing appealing about the crowd inside though.

The bar itself is interesting, but was completely turned off by the college crowd and older sketchy people.

I booked a private room at this bar almost a month before my birthday, and spoke with the woman in charge 4 separate times to confirm beforehand. She assured me that the room would be all mine for 2 hours, regardless of when the rest of my party showed up, and that we would have full access to the menu. WRONG! When I arrived (on time) with some of my party, we found that the room was already full of people. The bar staff was extremely unfriendly, and refused to clear the room even though we had a reservation. To top it all off, half of the menu items were unavailable even though we had pre-ordered them and it was still early in the night!

UNFORTUNATELY WE WERE TRYING TO GET SOME HELPFUL SERVICE FROM THE STAFF ABOUT HOW THEY COULD HELP A GROUP OF ABOUT 15 OF US. MOST OF OUR GROUP WAS NOT FROM THE AREA AND WE HAD PEOPLE COMING FROM HOURS AWAY FOR A BACHELOR PARTY. THEY WERE RUDE SNIPPY AND COMPLETELY UNHELPFUL. YOU WOULD THINK FOR SPECIAL OCCAISIONS PEOPLE WOULD TRY AND BE A LITTLE MORE CONSIDERATE, BUT I GUESS NOT. THEY HAVE LOST MY BUSINESS AND I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE. I WILL NOT BE VISITING AGAIN.

Bell In Hand is Boston's oldest pub, I believe. I went to dinner there once wtih family and had a nice little meal. However the few times I've been there on weekends it just hasn't been that great. They have a good selection of beer and there's nothing wrong with the crowd, there's just not very much going on. Fortunately, it's right in the middle of a million other bars.

Even though the wait to get in was about 20min, inside was still roomy. There wasn't much of a wait to get a drink, and it was only ab out $4.50 for a mixed drink. The live music was good, playing all the classic cover songs.

The Bell in Hand actually has live music 7 days a week, which makes it a great place to cure those mid-week blues. It's got a great atmosphere, and during the summer, the windows open out to give the place a nice breeze.

This place makes you really feel like you are in Boston. Located down on the cobblestone streets of Fanueil Hall, it is a hot spot at night, but is great for just stopping in for a beer too. Has live music and good beers on tap. Fun spot for barhopping through the area, or making a night of it.

my pals and i went out in boston last friday nite and had a great time there. the band, "for pete's sake" really got the crowd going and we had so much fun dancing, and they even let us sing in their microphone. (as well as one of us who went up there and played a mean tambourine!). all in all we had a wonderful time...we were taking our ex-roomie who now lives in cali out for drinks. the music definitely made the nite! :) the only bad thing was a fight all of a sudden broke out and there was some pushing and shoving which reminded me of the good old college days. nobody got seriously hurt, but it did scare us a bit!
