Wonderful, Thanks for all your care!!
by julie l.
What a wonderful place to bring your child. My Daughter is 3 years old and Dr. Matthews and his staff helped me with a very hard dission of extracting my childs two front teeth, due to a fall. When i called there the receptionist was very warm and calming, she was able to get me into the office immediately to take x-rays. when we got there the dental hygenists had takin her into the back, and they were all gentle and very loving. Having my daughters best intrest in mind he had told me what i needed to hear. thank you for everything i couldnt have asked for better care!!!

Please do not bring your children here
by Angie N.
I think this place is horrible. I decided to get a second opinion on dental work for my son...and I am glad that I did. 3,000 dollars and needless dental work and torture for my poor son to find out he didn't need half of what was done to him. The Kids Dentists see dollar signs and do not care about your child's health and well being. I wouldn't recommend these people to anyone. And they came highly recommended too. I am happy with my new dentist and we are trying to over come the fear and anxiety my son now experiences - all because of the kids dentist in west Springfield.

The Kids Dentist is all about the money!
by Ann V.
Agree, very greedy Dentist/Couple of rude office workers.
My 12 y.o daughter has gone to this practice for two years. This year I no longer have Dental insurance and inquired, prior to appointment, if my daughter could just have a cleaning and not be charged for the "one second" look by the dentist to say everything was okay. It was just an inquire. Well, the practice manager approached me very defensively, and rudely explained in a loud voice that a cleaning and Dentist review had to be done together because they would be liable if anything was wrong and also"It's a state law". I would never jeopardize my daughter's dental health if I did not know how well her dental hygiene was in addition to seeing an orthodontist at the same time. I would only practice this cleaning/Dentist review every 6mths as I do myself with my own Dentist. I would never had inquired if my own Dentist did not allow me to do this every six months. I will now inquire elsewhere about it being a "state law".I paid $129 for the cleaning/Dentist review. While writing the check I asked the Check out worker if there was a discount if I paid cash, as most office's honor. I was given a rude look and flatly told "No!"After I gave her the check she handed me my receipt and there was never even a "Thank you" given.Even though this practice tries to create a kid friendly atmosphere, it's just a facade. It's definitely all about the money!!!!!

I never write reviews but...
by J. K.
I have an 8 year old little girl. She has been getting her teeth checked and cleaned since she was 12 months old with not problems. Unfortunately our dentist passed away unexpectedly followed by his wife a year later (she was his hygienist whom we followed to a new practice). So we needed to find a new dentist and I decided that we would go to the kids dentist. At first the colors and kid friendly atmosphere were great, she loved them but then then there we some big red flags.
There were issue with our insurance...they threaten to charge me with the whole balance and then if I didn't pay it send it to collections. I fixed the insurance and got her seen.
It was fine but after her first visit I was never allowed back to observe the work. Since her first visit she has now had 5 cavities, needed multiple cavities filled and they put seals over other teeth (without x-rays) that then became cavities that need root canals (that I have to pay for). This is not due to not brushing or following their directions. We bought an expensive electric tooth brush, bought all their fluoride mouthwashes and special dental floss (all before the cavities).
Protect your kids and go to a place that involves you and doesn't try to swindle you out of your money at the expense of your kids teeth.

Not a good experience
by B H.
Our child had a very bad experience at the Kids Dentist. The hygienist rushed through the cleaning and was very rough with our toddler. She did not take the time to make him feel comfortable with the experience or to talk to him about what she was going to do. Then, at the x-rays, she yelled "no, no, no, keep your mouth closed!" at him and roughly held his mouth closed which scared him. He started crying, and she seemed unconcerned and just frustrated with us. They told us we have to let him cry. So our child, who was very excited about going to the dentist before we went, is now scared of the dentist. I would not recommend this place.

Excellent!
by Ed T.
I brought my child to the office and it was an incredible experience. From the kid friendly waiting room to the specialized care my child received everything was excellent. I only complaint I have is that I cannot go there too. The staff was friendly and helpful. I wouldn't bring my child to an adult doctor why wouldn't I bring him to a pediatric office? I will be telling everyone I know how happy I am with the office and the service I received.

The Very Greedy Dentist
by matt k.
The Very Greedy Dentist.
Service is average. The "Dr. Seuss-like" decorations are interesting and a joy to the kids. The staff smiles a great deal. Dr. Matthews is a decent fellow, with a note-worthy artificial smile, which left both the kids and me feeling a bit awkward. Most of the cleaning time is done by the staff. Pretty normal really.
My complaint was with the billing. $154 for a 15 minute cleaning. Times two, because there are two children. I argued with them because the price of a cleaning is about $75 elsewhere. The billing department explained through a great deal of double-talk that insurance companies pay them a discounted fee, but because we are uninsured we must pay much more. $308 for two cleanings? Double the usual rate because we don't have insurance. I paid $154 of the bill, and the financial person assures me that they will put the balance into collection. Why not charge the uninsured $1500?.
They did put it into collection, and I paid the balance.
The Kids Dentist is an excellent argument for socialized medicine. I am disgusted.
I'm taking my kids elsewhere next time. A normal cleaning for a normal price. I want nothing to do with this place.

This place has it all - modern, bright building, friendly and gentle hygienists, TVs in the exam rooms, toys to take home at the end of each visit, no insurance hassles, and dentists who are happy to speak to the parents after their child has been seen.

..to bring kids to the dentist. Bright "fisher-price" colors, plasma tv viewing and super friendly staff. The best thing of all is no pain and no fear.

Dr. Matthews and his staff is fantastic!! My kids do not complain about going to the dentist and I think it is because of the atmosphere they bring. They are always very friendly and non-threatening!

KIds Dentist

My son and daughter went to Drs. Epstein and Matthews in Springfield on to Dr. Matthews in W. Spfld. The facility is kid friendly and the staff interacts well with children. My kids would still go there if they were younger. Appointments were easy to make and there was never an issues with the dental insurance.

A great place for kids!

The Kids Dentist is a wonderful dental office. The staff is very gentle and compassionate even to the most fearful child. Dr. Matthews is very nice and the kids really like him. We've been patients there for almost 20 years, dealing with Dr. Epstein before he retired. We'll continue to use them as long as we can.

This is a great office for small children. They are super efficient at the front desk, there is no time wasted waiting for paperwork. The offices and waiting rooms are both super clean. The waiting room is very entertaining and comfortable for children. The dental staff are both pleasant and efficient as well. I wish they had offices like this for adults!!!
