Adams Animal Clinic is kind and caring

by Judy W.

I have had nothing but wonderful experiences with Adams Animal Clinic, from bunnies to cats. Dr. Nugent is wonderful, kind and caring, and his staff shows their affection for all animals. I would not go anywhere else.

A Great Clinic

by L B.

We all know that humans can be very neurotic when it comes to their pets and can be quite ignorant as to what constitutes good health care. When medical care is required, no one can guarantee a favorable outcome and it doesn't surprise me that in those circumstances, some people feel the need to blame someone. It's a natural part of grief for some. These very human qualities are certainly in evidence in some of the posts here.

My cats have experienced only excellent care from Dr. Nugent and on a few occasions when Dr. Nugent wasn't available, from Dr. O'Neill. If you had a less than satisfactory experience at Adams, probably you only need to make sure you change vets within the clinic. They are knowledgeable, experienced, compassionate. I have personally experienced Dr. Nugent as a warm and friendly person who always remembers the details of my cats' health when he sees me, and when only one is being examined, he never fails to inquire about the other.

The staff at the clinic is young, but dedicated. Some are stronger than others, particularly the assistant that I would suspect is the individual accused of being 12 in another post. She is a knowledgeable, caring professional and I always appreciate her kindness and her excellent care for my pets.

This is a clinic and not a full hospital. When my cats have needed specialized care for major illnesses, Dr. Nugent is quick to give appropriate referrals at Angell Animal Hospital. He is an outstanding general practitioner--very dedicated to the needs of his patients and their owners. I would not take my girls anywhere else.

Years of Great Care

by Colleen S. | insider Insider | Rank: 32,197

My family has been taking our animals to Adams for many, many years and our pets have always received great care. The staff is very friendly (and always remember your pet) and will get right down on the floor with your pet to pat and scratch them even if it means they are then covered head to toe in dog/cat hair.

My experience with Dr. Nugent is that he is very knowledgeable, very thorough, and has always been wonderful to my pets and to my family. I trust Dr. Nugent wholeheartedly because of the care my pets have received from him. One dog that I had needed IV treatments for a span of four days in a row. Dr. Nugent arranged it so we were able to go to the clinic each day so my guy could receive his IV - one day which was a Sunday and the clinic isn't even open for appointments. Dr. Nugent administered the IV and stayed for the hour until the IV was complete. At another point, I had a dog that was very ill in the last stages of cancer. Dr. Nugent was phenomenal and even gave me his home telephone number so we could contact him directly after hours if we needed him. This is what I consider exceptional care, not only for the animal, but also for the family.

A previous person reviewed the clinic and said that people only go there because it's cheaper -- my experience has been that people love their animals too much to go somewhere that they are not comfortable - to suggest otherwise if just offensive to those people. Someone didn't like this clinic because they saw the staff as "untidy" -- I don't care if they're wearing jeans and sweatshirts or scrubs, as long as they will interact well with my pet and make him/her more comfortable during a visit. ...and I'm sure whoever on the staff is being referred to as a "15 year old" is quite pleased with the compliment that they appear that young. The staff is friendly, intelligent and very, very kind to the animals.

Obviously, everyone has their own experience/opinion, but personally I love this clinic and Dr. Nugent. I highly recommend their services to others.

Multiple dogs over 16 years would disagree..

by Laurie w.

I have had three dogs go to adams animal clinic. Dr. Nugent is very un-emotional - and coming from a very blunt person, who is attached to her pets, this can be disturbing in times of of concern, however, I have never encountered ANY problems that have been referenced on this site. 90% of his staff has been there the entire time I have been a client (over 16 years), so i'm not sure who is saying they have random teenagers in there all the time it's simply untrue. The staff photo from christmas 15 years ago is on the wall in the office and you can see that most of the same people work there. He does have a few younger staff members, not teenagers, that have been there for probably two years or so that are there for the kennels. Apparently those who mention the constant barking have never been to a kennel!!! That's just a ridiculous statement.

He is also getting up there in age, and owns the property and home that is adjacent to the clinic, so he has probably chosen to reduce his schedule hence the addition of the two other vets. The "wild" animals someone referenced are two wild turkeys that wandered into his yard one day and never left. He built them a coop and they are fenced in at all times and now are his pets, so that again, is an exaggeration of the truth.

I have two yorkies, one which ended up getting mammary tumors. I was furious with them because she had been there to have three removed and within two weeks I noticed two more that I felt should have been found and removed at that time. I actually switched vets because I was so upset. HOWEVER, the very well known and recommended vet I went to see advised me that tumors can often show up very quickly and it's not an uncommon occurrence, that I should not just assume he "missed" them. A very reputable breeder of 30+ years, owner of over 20 active show dogs and owner of 6 retired show dogs currently at home, also advised me they can practically pop up overnight, it is not the vet's fault. The two yorkies I had that have since passed on, both surpassed normal life expectency (15 and 16.5 years) and went to nugent their entire lives so he must be doing something right.

There are always going to be people that have bad experiences at a place and if I did, I certainly would be commenting on it here as well. In the same aspect, I feel it necessary to state that in the 16 plus years I have been bringing three different dogs there, the only problem I have is that Dr. Nugent is "old school" and all business - just as quite a few people doctors are. He could lighten up a little, crack a smile once in a while and be a little more personable. But if I have to swap that for quality vet care, he can stay indifferent as far as i'm concerned.

Great Caregivers

by Michelle E.

We have had nothing but great experiences at Adams Animal Clinic. When you pull up to Adams Animal Clinic you see and feel like you are at an old friendly family farm. Just check out the geese, turkey's and the goats. When you walk into the office the front desk staff is always friendly and very kind. We purchased an 8 week old Golden Retriever named "Brady" in January and we have been very pleased with the care and advice we have received at Adams Animal Clinic. All of the Vets are great and really keep you informed on what is happening with your pet and go that extra step to make you feel comfortable. The services we have needed and the medication we have had to purchase for Brady has been reasonably priced and we never feel that we have broken the bank or been asked to buy things that really were not necessary . We strongly recommend this animal clinic to anyone who wants their pet to get the best care possible.

Wish I could've taken my Mother to Dr Nugent...

by Nina M.

While caretaking my 94yr old mother from 1999-2005 I was also caring for 5 cats and two dogs. Of all the vets that I had occasion to visit, Dr Nugent is one of two who I would highly recommend for his gentle, lo-tech, hands-on approach to animal care. The table is sprayed clean as I watched, weight calculated by standing on the scale while holding the animal in his arms and doing the math, records always readily accessible whether I was at the clinic or on the phone. But mostly his handling of my 18yr old Lilybud tiger cat impressed me... and her. Lily required hyperthyroid medication which necessitated a few blood tests/yr. Dr Nugent was the only vet who took it quickly and painlessly from her front leg without shaving and soaking her neck with alcohol while a tech held her in an uncomfortable position for the draw as did every other vet/tech. Lily simply sat comfortably where she was while Dr Nugent inserted the needle and quickly took the sample. Lily was visibly more relaxed in the Adams Clinic than in any other in that locale. Only when she had her chiropractic/massage with Dr Randy Caviness in Chelmsford (now the Integrated Health Clinic in Stowe) was she more relaxed in the entire atmosphere whether in the waiting area or the examining/treatment room and subsequently during her rides to and from the clinics. I appreciate Dr Nugent's focus on care and health... as was Dr Ptolemy Adams before him. Thanks again. Nina Morzenti

Great people, very caring

by marc m.

I have been going to them for 2 years now with my two puppies. They are a very caring group, very old school but very knowledgable. On top of that, their pricing is very reasonable when compared to others in the area. Highly recommended.

Amazing

by Anonymous

Adams Animal Clinic is the best! I have four cats. One of my cats does not like going to the vets at all!!!. The doctors there are very calm and patient with him. The staff has helped keep him relaxed so he could be examined. I don't know how they do it but each time he has been seen, there has been no blood shed. Amazing! I highly recommend Adams Animal Clinic. Everyone is very friendly and caring.
Thanks for great service.
Ellie

Some Cheese with that Whine maybe

by J. O.

Having frequented the clinic as both an employee and a customer for the last decade I must say that the services are both professional and quite affordable. Staffed by knowledgeable and caring doctors, as well as a highly efficient staff the Animal clinic is a testimony to how an operation should run, balancing customer interaction with service.
I can recommend no other business as much as this one.

Thank you for your time and good day.

30+ years of great care

by Anonymous

Our family has been bringing our cats and dogs to Adams Animal Clinic for over 30 years. Dr. Nugent (like Dr. Adams before him) and the whole staff are exceptional at what they do--both the medical care and boarding!

Doggone Great!

by Anonymous

This country style hospital is far from ordinary on 3-A in Woburn. The vet, and his nurses are unbelievably patient and welcoming. They are always willing to fit you in, or help in any way possible. I had to board my dog a while back, and I was a mess leaving her. They let me take her back and say goodbye, and made me feel comfortable with where i was leaving her. There are turkeys, ducks, and goats out front too!

Don't like this hospital

by cece c.

I hate a special breed kitten and I felt that the doctor was too rough on her. She was dramatic because he was probing her in a fashion I dont think she liked him...

Then time to pay, the price was more than they quoted me so I went to get more money and came back with 30bucks...and no one was around to collect it! I waited....nope.

I do not like this place and took her to my mom's vet -Amherst Animal Hospital in Nashua, NH. DR. Proctor is amazzzzzzzing.

Wholeheartedly recommend!

by Anonymous

I recently lost my dog after 12 very happy years. From the time I got him as a puppy in 1995 until approximately 2 months before his passing, he was cared for by Adams Animal Clinic. They were always caring, compassionate and loving in providing care for their pets. Several of my friends also use Adams for thier primary pet care and all are very pleased. About 2 months before my dog passed away, we moved from Winchester to Plymouth MA. Several times during those final 2 months, it was necessary to visit another vet that was more convenient to Plymouth. While that clinic was also good, they were MUCH more expensive. During those two months in Plymouth, when it was possible I would drive the 50 miles form Plymouth to Woburn just so my dog could be seen by the staff at Adams.

Contrary to what another person posted on here, there were many occasions when I had to pick up medications late in the day, very close to 6:00 PM which is their normal closing time. Someone ALWAYS offered to stay until I showed!

Very Rude Staff

by Heather K.

This vet closes at 6 pm which is difficult for those of us who work a 9-5 job in the city. I had to pick up some medication for my kitten and called ahead to say I might be 5 minutes late and would that be ok? I was told by a very rude woman that they close at 6 and that was that. So I rushed as fast as I could to get there and when I did I was laughed at by the staff members, who said they would have waited anyway and there was no need to rush. They also insisted on testing my kitten for Feline Leukemia even though I got her from a breeder and she's already been tested and I showed them the paperwork to prove it. I am taking my new kitten to a different vet for sure.

The feeling that the doctor really cares.

by Lori M. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 6,143

A very samll waiting area, but worth the wait. This doctor and his staff really care about you and your pet. They will not rush you or make you feel like all they want is your money. They board pets also. Hidden in the back down a long driveway, so watch for the sign.
