This shop is truly unique. I could not believe the amount of inventory or the kindness of the staff. The shop has some very high quality items that are expensive, but no more so than any other nice gift shop, plus they gift wrap and offer free coffee and snacks when you walk in! I love this shop and make the trip from Boston just to shop in its beautiful historic atmosphere. It is worth the trip and the people who work there always remember me with a smile! I love it! Annie

Very interesting old country store. It's really very charming and cute. There are lots of gourmet food items which can be purchased to create a gift basket. There are lots of glassware items. Pretty nice penny candy section, which is sure to be full of kiddies. There is a fragrant candle section and a section of soaps and sprays and other aromatic toiletries. You never know what you will find in this store! The sales clerks are usually helpful and will make an effort to provide assistance to you. I asked the owner one time for some help, and she pointed me in the right direction but couldn't really be bothered to escort me to the item or provide any further help. That sort of made me feel like she obviously didn't need my business then, so now I usually go in there and browse and never buy anything. The prices are a bit high and usually more than you would pay somewhere else. So, if it's a bargain you are looking for, you've come to the wrong place. But if you want some cool and unusual items or if you just want to kill some time and have some fun browsing, Old Company Store fits the bill.

PROS: Feeling of going back in time to a simpler way
CONS: Not nearly enough parking in the tiny lot, so you have to park on street

The "company" referred to in the title refers to the Tremont Nail Company established in 1819. The Old Company Store was built in 1890 as the Cooper Shop and general store for the Tremont Nail Factory employees. The nail company still produces cut nails and sells them in the Company Store.

Walking into the store you will feel like you are stepping back in time! Country type items are sold here "penny" candy, jams, jellies, candles, crafts cards and gifts etc. Winter time visitors are presented with complimentary hot coffee, cider or chai.

PROS: Great to just visit too!
CONS: Some gifts may be pricey
