I love this place. The only detraction is the steep prices... but the selection of imports, quirky items, and unique gifts is just mind-boggling (or "mind-bottling" if you're a Will Ferrell fan, haha).

They have great high-end wrapping paper which is really only as much as you'd pay for similar paper at Paper Source or any of those stationary shops.

They also will can your small items in lieu of giftwrap for $4... as in seal your item in a nondescript aluminum soup-type can! It's pretty great.

Highly recommend a visit. I go every week or two.

Lots of unusual and hard to find elsewhere products. To get all that in a convenient and great place to shop, well, I'm willing to pay the price. All you folks who are complaining about price have obviously not shopped in New York recently, or anywhere else where design and style matter.

Whenever I'm Christmas shopping, I end up stopping in at Black Ink. They fit a ton of stuff into their relatively small stuff and it's always interesting and fun to look through. You can find tiny board games, kitchen gadgets, and all sorts of unique stuff here. It can be a little difficult looking around, as the store really utilizes its wall space by stocking items all the way up to the ceiling but even if you go for the things just on the bottom shelves, it's worth a look.

I stop by here whenever I can. They alway have new stuff coming in and the collection is very eclectic. Some vintage, some modern and some stuff is out of this world. They have some neat glassware in the back of the stuff. Be sure to look up the walls, since their stuff goes to the ceilings as well.

I found about 5 little items here for my mom's birthday, a lady hard to buy for because it seems like she has everything she needs. Here, you'll find magnetic thumb tacks, teenie tiny measuring cups, unique bar tools, big paper clips and round dice. They're items you don't know are out there, but that can add simplicity and fun to your life. The unique stock is fun to explore and the prices are great. Find a little gift to brighten someone's day- it's likely they'll be as surprised by the item as you were!

I simply adore this store. There is such a strange collection of collectibles and just kitchy stuff. Merchandise is pile to the ceiling and there is stuff just everywhere. Some of the items here, just don't have any purpose.. Check out the china and glass wear in the back of the store. Parking is a nightmare and so is driving here. Right across from the train station. Prices are a little high, but cheaper than ordering online.

Right in the middle of Harvard Square, this store has the most random assortment of items I have ever seen. Its a nice place to get a fun gift for a friend, but theres not much practicality to anything in the store, except to serve as a nice source of amusement. Im always surprised with what I might find in here each time.

Really cute store. They're always changing their items so it doesn't get old. I stop by pretty much every time I go to Harvard Square. Usually it's just funny to browse and you find weird funny things like a handbook on competitive paper, rock, scissors or rubber bands in the shape of animals. Nice for cute gifts.

This store is definitely the silliest and most fun in Harvard Square. Unfortunately most of the things there (unless you are buying pencil erasers or something) are quite expensive. This makes it a good place for browsing for attractively useless things out of a sense of wonder and then leaving without buying any of it. Try the Museum of Useful Things instead.

PROS: cute things
CONS: expensive

Black Ink in Harvard Square is always packed with browsers drawn in by their interesting window displays. Black Ink the kind of store that sells designer accessories and reproduction vintage style accessories. Go there to shop for odd stuffed animals, asian themed decorations, humorous little books and pocketbooks, fancy desk accessories. It's the type place where you want to buy lots of things but you really have no use for them and could not afford them anyways.

PROS: neat stuff, nice window displays
CONS: too expensive, useless stuff

There is no better place to get a gift for the person who has everything than Black Ink. The store just oozes fun. The walls are brightly colored and the staff is eclectic- everything, especially the merchandise, just melts together to creat the perfect shopping atmosphere. Most of the items in the store have "Try me!" opportunites, which means you can spend a long time poking around and finding new, grow up toys. The gift opportunites are endless, with tongue-in-cheek sillyness abound. The best place to go when you're having a bad day!

Black Ink in somewhat of a unique store in that you never know quite what you will find in it, except that you know you will find something delightful and unusual. The store is a toy shop for big kids, and delights in selling all kinds of beautiful, unusual items. Even plates and cups are in unusual, yet vastly appealing, colors and shapes. They also sell cute magnets, or quirky decorations, and other types of novelty items.

Every town has that loveable store where you buy useless baubles and trinkets when you can't think of anything else to get your best friend for her birthday. Black Ink is that, and more, for Harvard Square.

Right when you get off the T you can see it, even the storefront is different with its funny lettering. The inside is constructed of walls of shelves filled with everything you could possibly not need at all. They also carry functional items with a twist, for the more right-brained people.

They carry a wide range of things from Americana to Japanese pop which is pretty great since you can't find stuffed Totoro dolls anywhere else.

Staff is pretty friendly in my experience, and although some items can seem expensive it's just because they serve no apparent purpose (and that's not a bad thing!)

PROS: fun, ecclectic
CONS: spend your whole paycheck in one visit

This store is great. All of the merchandise is very odd and fun. It is mostly things you can't find any other place. The mechandise includes plants that grow out of eggs, paper sheep that magically grow wool, notepads that look like sandwiches, and change purses shaped like donuts.

There is also a large selection of odd cards and postcards set up in the middle of the store.

All in all a great place to buy gifts, although the weirder they are the more expensive.
