1 Stars: A funny smell... (by Audrey H.)

Herrell's in Cambridge seems to be suffering from a number of food service faux-pas, the first of which being an emanating smell from the moment you walk in. It smells a little bit like the cows they're making the ice cream from are in the back room. A little cleanliness would take them a long way in getting rid of it.

The customer service there is less than satisfactory. I work very close to Herrell's at a restaurant and in food service customer service is #1. No one behind the counter (except one great guy who was on top of things) seemed to want to help me. Or him.

The ice cream is good, that's one thing, but take it to go because eating in the dingy space they've set up for tables is just depressing. Better yet - go to the Herrell's in Allston for a far better experience.

PROS: good ice cream
CONS: service, atmosphere, cleanliness

3 Stars: Yummy Ice Cream that is over priced. (by Leigh S.)

Herrells ice cream is incredibly delicious although i do not understand when people have to jack up the price of a small cup of ice cream. The shop is cute and has a room that evoks an underwater/submarine type experience. Honestly, i would suggest going to the 7-11 around the corner and buying a pint of Ben & Jerry's with a plastic spoon!

4 Stars: One of the best (by Carleen K.)

This is not one of the ice cream shops people usually talk about when they go to Boston, as Boston has many others. However, this was one of my favorites when I visited. The decor is plain, almost depressing, but they have a large selection of flavors, all homemade. My favorite was the Malted Vanilla, which really tasted just like malt! They have a few of these shops scattered in MA. If only they would come to the West Coast!
