Simply Gross. Many Expired items on shelf, Veggies are rotten with fruit flies on them. Too many negative things to write that are offensive, so my advice is to go to better store in the area (avoid China Merchandise too, prices bit cheaper but again in the same boat) go to Patel, Rajarana, Apnabazar.

This is what a colleague of mine had written to all Indians in my company.... His wife had to go thru a very terrible incident at this store

"This past Sunday (11/02/08) my wife tried to return an unopened tava that was defective. When she purchased it last week, she was told she could return it if unused and with the receipt. She had the receipt and had paid $9.99. The store manager operating the cash register argued that item was only $3.99 even though it had no price sticker. He refused to refund the money and lost his temper. He took the tava and threw it outside the front door, and told my wife to F*** off. The store was full of other customers waiting in line and they just watched. My wife was shocked by his rudeness and left the store very traumatized.
It is unbelievable that a store in the US would abuse a customer in this manner. More so to use profanity in such a manner to a female is disgusting.
I strongly plead you to not do business with such despicable people and only then will they know the value of customers."

Many Indian Grocery stores act as if they have monopoly... I guess its the consumers who are the boss..

I went to spiceland last weekend and bought a skillet to make rotis. The woman behind the counter sold me that skillet for $9.99. I was not sure about the quality, so I asked her if I could return it, and she was like sure - as long as I don't use the product and I have my reciept - given how slim the profit margins are, it is understandable. I decided to return the skillet a week later, and there was a man behind the counter. The minute I told him that I wanted to return the skillet, he got very upset. Then he looked at the receipt and said that I had the wrong receipt. I looked at it, and said, no it is the right receipt, and the top item of 9.99 is the skillet. He told me that they don't sell that skillet for (.99 but for $3.99 or $2.99 and that I was lying. He took the skillet, asked me to "get out", and he threw the skillet outside the shop! I have never been treated like this. This just made me realise how majority of the items in the store are not marked properly. Also, the receipt that they give is not itemised. Every line item says "grocery". We need to protect ourselfs. There are plenty other Indian stores in the neighborhood.

Every time I go to the Boston area which is very often I buy all my Indian groceries here. This store is well stocked and they carry even some of the rarest items. Their frozen food section is very good and have a number of Indian dishes. They also carry fresh vegetables and you can buy freshly made chappatis too. Don't forget the crunchy spicy snacks.

You can get all your Indian grocery shopping done here. They have frozen items too which is very convenient. Sell fresh veggies and snacks too. The samosa pretty yummy and the prices of groceries is reasonable.

PROS:
CONS: Don't accept credit card

I had gone to Spiceland last weekend to buy a skillet (tava) to make rotis. At that time, there was a young woman behind the counter, who sold me the same for $9.99. I thought it was expensive, and she said that they have another small one for $5.99, which was a non stick. I was not sure, so I asked if I did not use the product could return it. She assured me that it was fine, as long as I had my receipt. Today at around 2 pm I went to Spiceland with the tava, which was still in the plastic bag, and the sticker was on - so exactly the same condition that I had bought it in, and my receipt. Today there were two young guys behind the counter. The taller one asked me what was the problem, and I told him that I was not sure about the quality as it is already rusting. The minute I told him that I wanted to return the skillet, he got very upset. Then he looked at the receipt and said that I had the wrong receipt. I looked at it, and said, no it is the right receipt, and the top item of 9.99 is the skillet. He told me that they don't sell that skillet for 9.99 but for $3.99 or $2.99 (even he was not sure for how much they sold it for) and that I was lying. I told him why I would lie, and come all the way from Brighton to return the skillet. He cursed me, and said "Get the f... out of my store", and he took the tava and threw it outside the store! I was in a total state of shock - who treats customers like that? I am still in a state of shock. Other things that came out of this incidence:
- I looked at the receipt and realized that everything on the receipet was grocery - they were not itemized. Which means that there is no way to protect us.
- Most of the items in the store are not marked. Which means that differnet people can charge different prices from customers, and there is no holding them responsible.
