In Short
In warmer months, Boston Harbor Cruises runs ferries each day to Georges Island from Long Wharf, and from Hewitt's Cove in Hingham and Heritage Park in Lynn. The company also provides free water-taxi service in the Harbor Islands between Georges, Gallops, Lovells, Grape and Bumpkin islands. Sight-seeing cruises leaving from Long Wharf include narrated trips to Charlestown Navy Yard and U.S.S. Constitution. Harbor views are especially impressive on 90-minute sunset cruises.

Wonderful day trip for any age!

by Samantha B. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 12,780

If you have exhausted your options, or if you are just tired of the city and want to get away for a day (or more) this is the place for you. Boston Harbor Cruises brings you right out to Georges Island where an old Military Fort is located. This is a fast and fairly cheap way to get away for a day and have a picnic or just walk around the fort and take in some history. Be careful of the prices of the concessions there, they can be pricey. Bring plenty of water also. Dont expect sandy beaches and ocean swimming, but do expect a relaxing and fun afternoon with a great view of the Boston skyline.

PROS: The Fort Lookout, Picnic tables, grassy areas great for picnics
CONS: Picey Concessions, ferry schedule can be confusing

Boston Harbor Cruises

by Deana C. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 1,905

My husband and I took a sunset cruise on this boat around the harbor. It was just beautiful. The sunset adds alot to the cruise itself. You also get to see the USS Constituition's sunset activities. The atmosphere is serene. The food and drinks are a bit on the expensive side but well worth it nonetheless. A nice relaxing evening for a couple to enjoy!

An Amazing Evening

by Alexandria M. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 2,408

My friend won free tickets for a Boston Harbor Cruise, often fondly dubbed the "booze cruise." We had such an amazing time! If you pay enough there is an open bar, GREAT buffet style food, and two levels of music and fun. I highly recommend this trip around the harbor, espeically on a nice clear evening.

Boston Harbor cruises

by Jennifer S. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 188

Boston Harbor cruises is an awesome boat cruise that you can take all along the boston harbor and see all of the islands you can go during the day and see seals and other things on the islands one that has rabbits all on it etc. Or you can rent the boat for a function party and take it out during a cool summer night and enjoy the night out on the boat with friends. I really enjoy this tour and would definately reccomend it .

Go see the whales!

by caffeinegirl

I booked tickets for my family online the night before the cruise, and was able to avoid the long lines at the harbor...especially since it was Labor Day weekend. The boat has several levels, and a limited number of seats, so it's better to board earlier (ie, get there a little more than 30 min prior to departure) so you don't end up standing for the hour long ride to the Bay. Also..bring a light jacket, as the temperature is cooler out on the water.

We quickly spotted whales when we got to the bay, and saw two adults and a calf diving right next to the boat, and they stayed there for the full hour we were there. The captain was great in turning the boat around so that everybody had a good look at the boat (from the left and the right). The research tour guide was great in letting us know where the whales were, and also gave great insight into their behavior and biology.

Although it was a full boat, and thus crowded, we noticed that the enthusiasm died down after the first 25 minutes, and so we were able to see whales up close and not from behind the crowds. We started on the upper deck, and later on moved to the lower deck. I recommend the lower deck because you do get the best up close view.

The boat has a great "snack bar" which carries everything from hot dogs and beer to coffee and candy. It was very kid friendly as well.

Overall a great three hour experience!

Pros: You get to see whales!

Cons: It's a full boat during the tourist season

Unprofessional Agency

by paulyjt

My wife and I took a New Year's Eve cruise with this agency, and about 2 hours into it the captain came over the loudspeaker and said there was a small leak in the boat. He said they had to go back to the dock to address the problem. My wife, who is 5 months pregnant, became very uneasy and we decided to get off the boat. When I called the company to request a refund, the VERY RUDE female employee insisted there "wasn't a leak on the boat" and that the tickets were non-refundable.

Do yourself a favor and seeks other agencies for harbor cruises. This outfit is apparently very low-brow and not worth the risk.

A great way to go to the Cape

by JustineOKane

I had never been to Provincetown so I decided to take the ferry there. I was very happy with the experience, the trip out there was so fast and comfortable, I went on a Thursday which wasn't too busy and there was plenty of room on board. You do need to get there early to purchase tickets the line was long. I hired a bicycle when I got there and went on a bike trail, it was fun at first until I cycled about twenty minutes and realized I wasn't fit enough to do this, don't say I didn't warn you!

Pros: Fast, convenient, beautiful

Cons: long line for tickets
