I went to this little gem in the South end this weekend and the sandwiches are very good and the bakery items are out of this world. There are plenty of people to serve you so the line goes fast. Small inside, great people watching outside.

Grilled Chicken, roasted red pepper sandwich is very good.

Flour has become among the most celebrated of eateries in the city and has recently branched out from its South End location to a storefront in South Boston too. That must mean that something's working right -- it's the baked goods. Their scones, tarts, and cookies are fantastic. And the sandwiches are creative and tasty. Their portobello sandwiches, their roast beef, and their curry tuna salad are among the best known items.

And it's good thing those are all so good. The wait times there are terrible. The good word brings people in droves and the lines are often to the door and the lunchtime rushes can make the already-small place seem a bit claustrophobic. It's not uncommon to see the South End's relatively well-off patrons jockeying for a spot close to the door on Sunday mornings to be first for ordering pastires.

A supremely bizarre approach to orders where they pass your order to the right through 3-5 people before your order is made just makes no sense at all. How about a computerized order-taking system? You are advised to call your order in. At least that way when you get to the front of the line your food is a minute or two away.
