Northern Italian steakhouse in Boston's Back Bay
  • Boston and Philly Locations
  • Open Wine Room with 300 Wines
  • Three Versatile Function Rooms

In the fall of 2002, after 17 years on Newbury Street, Davio's relocated to 75 Arlington Street. Handsomely filling the first floor of the legendary Paine Furniture Building in Park Square, the room's urbane sophistication remains true to the integrity of this landmark Back Bay structure while fulfilling owner Steve DiFillippo's restaurant wish list. The space has allowed Davio's to build an enormous open kitchen backed with a bakery where both pastry chef and baker make all of the desserts and breads offered here. A temperature-controlled wine room holds more than 300 different bottles while two full-time wine stewards are employed. "Award of Excellence"--Wine Spectator Magazine

Northern Italian Steakhouse  4 Star Rating - Very good

A five star restaurant all the way. We chose more common dishes. There were many unusual choices that all looked excellent as they passed by. The filet mignon was wonderful and the roasted organic salmon was spectacular (says husband). The Philly cheesesteak spring rolls as an appetizer are very good. Service is outstanding, dress is dressy! Very classy restaurant. If you dine here while the Yankees are in town, you very well may see Derek Jeter...probably not with A-Rod, and that's fine with me!

Consistantly Great Meal 5 Star Rating - World class

We eat at Davio's 2-3 times a year and always have a good experience. The dining room is beautiful and there is a certain buzz that adds to the meal. It reminds me of a NYC restaurant; in fact the last time we saw Derek Jeter and a bunch of his Yankee teammates.

Our waiters have always been friendly and we trust their suggestions. We typically start with a cocktail and an appetizer or two. My husband usually orders a steak while I tend to gravitate towards healthier fare. The menu is varied with plenty of options so it never feels as though one of us compromised.

Although they have a sizable wine list we are not wine drinkers so I cannot comment on the quality. Deserts are another story; they are a real treat and worth the calories!! When the weather is poor, having parking in the building is a big plus. When the weather is better, we tend to spend the afternoon shopping around Copley Place and Newbury Street before making the short walk over.

Best Italian in Boston 5 Star Rating - World class

My wife and I bring all of our out-of-town guests to Davio's. Without a doubt the friendliest and most knowledgeable staff in the City.

The restaurant is beautiful, the menu is creative with something for every taste, you can park in the building, and it's next to the better hotels and the theater district.

Do yourself a favor, skip the traffic and the hype in the North End and give Davio's your business.

overall excellent experience 4 Star Rating - Very good

All in all excellent well prepared food and service. However the steak is slightly below a premium steakhouse and the Italian dishes lack a little panache. Our service started a little rough with being ignored in favor of a very large party but after a word to the manager things improved dramatically. There are few "buys" on the wine list - but Boston restaurants regularly jack wine prices way beyond the normal mark-up. One find - the Cain Meritage only 2x retail and excellent!

Pros: excellent food, nice mix of items with a steakhouse bent
Cons: noise level, a few snooty staff

Great food, great atmoshere 5 Star Rating - World class

Went to Davios with a group of 8. When I originally heard we were going to an italian steakhouse I felt they would do one thing well but not the other. This wasn't the case. The Italian style meals were excellent and the steaks were excellent. Very nice place, upscale, steakhouse type atmosphere, great service, great wine list, expensive but you get what you pay for in terms of quality and service. My only negative was that we were a party of 8 and the table was very crowded. I looked around the room to see if we could get a better table when they we were seated and it didn't appear we could do any better. I would definately recommend however if you are a large party, speak with the manager before and make sure your table meets your needs.

Pros: food, service, winelist, knowledgeable waitstaff

Overall, pretty good 4 Star Rating - Very good

I recently went to Davio's with my boyfriend and his parents for his birthday. I made a reservation through OpenTable and we were seated immediately. (Actually, we arrived late, and called the restaurant, who graciously agreed to hold our table for 15 minutes until we made it there. ) The service was solicitous (almost a bit too much) but informative and attentive. Our waiter made excellent suggestions with regard to a nice wine to try, but forgot our sides completely and didn't seem too interested in checking up on us when a larger party arrived shortly after we did. The food itself was well done - high scale without being intimidating. I had the filet, which was excellent; my boyfriend had the r@ck of lamb and loved it; his mother had the jumbo shrimp and his stepdad had the sirloin - both were thrilled. Dessert was basically a warm apple crustado with vanilla ice cream that underwhelmed. For a tab that came to over $300, it was a mixed bag. I'd probably try the new Ruth's Chris Steakhouse before I went back to Davio's, simply for comparison purposes.

Pros: high quality ingredients, excellent presentation, knowledgable staff
Cons: costly parking, inconsistent attention to order requests
