The Warren Tavern was probably the first building erected in Charlestown after the British razed the town during the Battle of Bunker Hill on June 17, 1775. It was founded by Captain Eliphelet Newell in 1780. Newell had been believed to have been a participant at the famous Boston Tea Party and as an ardent patriot and admirer of Dr. (general) Joseph Warren, it is natural that he named his tavern after the fallen hero of the Battle of Bunker Hill. Other famous visitors included Paul Revere, who had been a close friend of Warren's and stated often that the Tavern was one of his favorite watering places. Later after the Revolutionary War, General George Washington, on a visit to Charlestown to see his old friend Benjamin Frothingham, stopped here for "refreshments."
Feels like hometown bar

I've frequented the Warren Tavern quite a bit over the past few years and have always had a great time there. It's a laid back place where you can go and have a few drinks with friends after work or on the weekends. It's an interesting bar once you get to know the history of it. The menu has a variety of options and the food was pretty good too. Wednesday nights are fun with live acoustic guitar signing covering the classics. Only downside I've ever experienced at the bar was that it can get crowded, but sometimes that's what makes it fun.

I go to Warren Tavern pretty regularly for drinks with friends. Their big night is Wednesday - they have a band and it gets really crowded. If you're looking for a more low key night, try a different weeknight or even the weekend.

Warren Tavern is the oldest restaurant in Massachusetts dating back to colonial times. If you are visiting Boston you have to stop here and eat. The food is good and service is good. You can visit them on their website at www.warrentavern.com.

I live near the Tavern and go there several times a week. Its great for a quick drink, dining or a night out. John the manager is a stand-up guy. I liked the other bartenders, Greg and Dan as well. Lunch specials are always good. Draft beer and food are excellent (I recommend the burgers especially). Try out the Tavern Wed and Thu, when there is live music.
Pros: Good service, a young professional crowd
Cons: It can get too packed late Wed/Thu, but manageable if you get in before 9pm

Lots of Fun!!

We usually go to the Warren Tavern on Thursday nights and Weekends. The food is always great but then again how do you screw up a burger and apps. Definitely try the burgers. I recommend sitting at the bar because the service seems to better and you are able to get a nice view of the big screen TVs. Most of the staff are very friendly and welcoming. The best thing about it this place is you can walk if you live in the area.

Horrible Customer Service
by amesco47
The first time I went here for brunch, the manager came over and told us they had our table reserved and that we had to wrap it up in fifteen minutes! I hadn't yet finished my breakfast or coffee. Needless to say, I was stunned and vowed never to go there again.
Well, today my friends said that the pub was under new management, so I decided to brave it again. We ordered a big brunch, and again, we were almost finished (still working on my OJ and coffee), when our waitress came over to tell us that our table had been reserved--and then she went over to the table next to us and said the same thing!!! On top of not being able to finish my coffee yet again, this restaurant doesn't take reservations for parties less than 5 or 6 people--we were seated at a 4-person table. I couldn't believe that once again, we couldn't enjoy our food and conversation (although the meat hash I ordered was pretty bad--too salty) and were made to feel rushed, and a little like cattle.
Don't go here if you don't like to feel like just a number number with a wallet...
Cons: Very Poor Customer Service, Poor to Average Food

Classic Tavern

Sit at the same bar as Paul Revere and George Washington. Lots of charm and character. Stick with the appetizers and burgers... the rest of the menu is average.
Great bartenders too!!

Nicely Done

The Warren Tavern in Charlestown definitely has the best burger around. Mine are always cooked specifically to my liking and come in a timely manner. There are also a number of different burgers available-- each of them pretty unique. I highly reccomend this place.
