If I could give less than 1 star for this ridiculous establishment, I certainly would do so. I rushed home tonight after dining at Lucia just to write a review so that no one else has a similar experience. I arrived tonight with a friend

My girlfriend and I were visiting from NY and wanted to find some good Italian food in the North End. We had been driving around for a while looking for a parking spot. We asked a local walking a Bassett Hound which Restaurant he thought was good. He pointed us to Lucia and said "they've been around for over 30 years".

The calamari was overcooked and the gravy was terrible. It burned our throats from too much spice and made us feel sick. We asked for a more mild sauce and it was average. Nothing special. We ordered the Lucia veal dish thinking that it would be safe to go with a namesake dish. Wrong again. The meat was overcooked, and the penne was undercooked. The service was good, but the food and value were really disappointing. If you are ever in NY, compare this place to Carmines and you'll understand just how bad the food was at Lucia. If I had it to do over, this fat little piggy would rather eat his own shoes.

                  Pros: Decent service
Cons: Quality, cost, portions. Find an Olive Garden instead!

At first this restaurent seemed like a good choice, visitIng the Boston area from San Francisco we decided to give this restaurant a try. My son and I sat down and ordered a very basic meal, salad and entre meanwhile everyone around us would come and go and we had yet to be served even our salad, I asked our waiter Massimo when we might be served, just a few minutes more he replied after 40 minutes we finally had our salad, the meal was awful, the pasta was so hot and overcooked as if it had been sitting under those heat lamps forever. Disgusted we paid the bill and left a minimal tip, I wanted to leave no tip at all but I felt that was not fair to the waiter well can you believe that when I recieved my credit card statment they had changed the amount of the tip I had left and helped themselves to double the amount. Never has this happend to me where a restaurant has changed the tip amount, LUCIA'S YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED!

I have eaten -everywwheeere- in this city, and nowhere leaves me more satisfied than Lucias.
More than reasonable prices. Beautiful, authentic and cozy atmosphere. Knowledgeable and friendly staff and management (they even stayed open very late for my 21st bday). Great wine list. And most importantly, the food is AMAAAAZING !!!! There is nothing on the menu you will not like, and the chicken marsala is better than any I've ever had, in Italy, in NY's little Italy, at my Italian best friends grandmothers house, anywhere. I have never had a bad time or a bad meal or a bad glass of wine. I will continue bringing all of my friends here.

This is our first trip to Boston and everywhere we go, we try our best to find the best Italian. This time,we had no resutaurant info in advance,so me and my wife just walked around to seek the real taste of Italy using our six sense. Lucia located almost at the edge of North End and my wife insisted to get in there without any special reason. Since we were not so hungry, ordered just two pasta which is Bolonese and Bongore without expectation..but the dishes were both incredible tasty and the pasta was good enough boiled (NOT typical US too soft pasta) and the service was good too. At the time of check,we booked the table for tomorrow dinner as well. We can not wait to taste the different dish soon !!

I have been disappointed with many restaurants during restaurant week, but Lucia was definitely not one of them! We arrived and were prompty greeted in a very friendly manner. The entrance is a little awkward (it's as if you are walking into the service area), but the decor makes up for it. This place is so quaint and perfect for a romantic date! Our server was so attentive and actually cared that we enjoyed our experience. The food was great - delicious artichoke as my appetizer, awesome risotto stuffed chicken and perfectly grilled swordfish as our entrees. We left happy and would definitely go back!

Heard a few good things about this place, so i tried it out last night for restaurant week. Now I've heard that you don't get the best service during restuarant week, but I've been to most places in Boston for restaurant week and have had awesome service, so that isn't true. Where to begin:

Our waiter i thought was in slow motion. We were supposed to have 4 courses: appetizer, pasta, entree and dessert. Well it takes him 20 minutes to bring the bread, finally he brings the appetizer after 30 mins. Then, we wait another 30 minutes when he tells us he forgot the pasta course. SWEET. So he brings the entree...followed by the pasta course. Now my girlfriend worked as a waitress her whole life, so she was saying it was probably the kitchen was backed up. Well, the part that irked me the most was not once did the waiter say "Sorry for the delay...I apologize I messed up.." NOTHING. I mean how do you not comment on the fact it took you over an hour to bring us our food on a not so crowded Tuesday.

Funniest part was the couple next to us was waiting just as long and then the waiter came over and told them what they had ordered was sold out. This was about 30 mins AFTER they ordered. Like what kind of operation is this.

Anyway, I grudgingly gave him a 15% tip, and he was lucky he got that. This was an AWFUL dining experience!

Why this place has more than 4 stars is beyond me. EXTREMELY UNFRIENDLY MANAGEMENT-OWNERSHIP. Classes on personal conduct may be useful for the management...as during my meal, I witnessed management speaking to its staff in a manner that is well below standards for even treating a human being. Made my experience( and my wife's) very unpleasant. The only reason this restaurant may do so well is that it is virtually the first restaurant on Hanover if you are coming from Commercial Street and pedestrians may be tired of walking. It's all about settling.

Devine little restaurant that has been around since the 70's. Calamari is great. Try the pollo arrabiata which is a chicken with anchovies and mushrooms. It's great. You can't miss with any dish here. The prices are average for the north end, average $20 per entree.

This place always has a line so I assumed that the food was good. I was so wrong. I had the Lobster Ravioli, which was a special for the night, and it was awful! It tasted like the restaurant bought it in bulk from BJs and just heated it up and the portion was very small. Way too small and too gross for a $25.00 entree. Service was bad as well. I had to flag the waiter down repeatedly for refills on water and a second glass of wine. Pass Lucias and go to Emedios next door if you want good Italian food.

This website had recommended I make a reservation, but when we got there, it turned out that wasn't really necessary (6PM on a Saturday). We ate in the downstairs dining room which was cold, until the heat kicked in. It was a beautiful room with mirror all around the room. Our waiter was pleasent and explained each and every special, which I appreciate (instead of a verbal speed-through of food). The portions, however, were somewhat small compared to the price tag. It's a decent value. But my boyfriend ordered the Spezzatino Abbruzzese (chicken&veal in a butter/white wine/cheese sauce) and there was barely anything on the plate. However, it was delicious. The bill was decent (about $30 for the two of us: a salad and 2 entrees). Towards the end, our waiter seemed sort of busy (once a bigger table came in). but overall, a nice place to eat.

When I arrived with reservations they did not have a table ready for us. They squeezed half of us into a small table while the rest of us stood around the table waiting for other tables to be added for 15minutes.
Called ahead with a wine and appetizer order that I wanted served to the guests who arrived before the guest of honor. They succeeded with the wine, but lost my appetizer order.
I finished my whole entre before our last guest ever received hers.
The food was good. I give it a B.
Our server was very polite and did his best. He wasn't proactive, but rather greatly reactive. Had to be on top of him about getting drinks. The problem is that they are understaffed. I wouldn't recommend this place for a large party. However, for a small party it's probably fairly good.

I went to Lucia on a Saturday night and had a great time. We had the bruschetta, chicken broccoli ziti, and mussels over linguine, all which were excellent. I had a glass of pinot grigio, which had a lot of flavor, and I really enjoyed it. It is a little small in there, and we sat about two inches away from another table, but it was so loud, so you couln't hear anyone else's conversation. The waitstaff was extremely friendly, but they don't really check up on you, and I had to wait to get my water refilled and no one asked about a refill for the wine. Prices are moderate, about $15 for entrees, so that was good. We will definately go back. I recommend making reservations, as we did, and still had to wait about 10 minutes.

I went to Lucia on a Saturday night and had a great time. We had the bruschetta, chicken broccoli ziti, and mussels over linguine, all which were excellent. I had a glass of pinot grigio, which had a lot of flavor, and I really enjoyed it. Pros: Prices, Good Food

                  Cons: Parking, Crowded

We recently celebrated our daughter's 21st birthday at Lucia's. Since all plans were made long-distance over the phone, we were a bit apprehensive of showing up from out of town for a dinner of 25, even thought we had been there several years ago. The reservation manager assured us everything would be fine. It was that and more. We were treated royally with our own private room and personalized menu. The waitresses went out their way to serve and please out unruly crowd of 20-somethings. Not only was the food served promptly, but it was also delicious and hot. Several people raved about the Veal Bracciolitini (sp?). Hats off the staff and chefs at Lucias for a very memorable event!

This little restaurant deep on beautiful Hanover St. offered everything I could have wanted, it took me a long time to decide on a meal. The food came quickly and beautifully prepared. The only thing that was wrong was the service. While it was fast and efficient, the server did the bare minimum, just taking the order and dropping off the food. Could have used a little personality to go along with the ambiance of the restaurant.

OK- Think of going to the North End for dinner without reservations in the middle of the "feast". I thought it would be a nightmare! Turns out it was the best dinner I had in months. There were six of us and we were all happy with just about everything!
