Terrible Service - Rude Dispatcher. Stranded at the airport at midnight, thanks to Viking Cab and rude dispatcher. Called from Miami and was assured that two cabs would be available when we landed at Logan. Called from Logan and rude dispatcher said he could take only 2 of 5 passengers and NO LUGGAGE - and couldn't give estimate for when remaining 3 passengers and luggage could be picked up. Took a van at HALF THE PRICE and spared ourselves a ride in a broken down cab from Viking. Will admit the drivers are usually very polite - but the dispatcher working the night shift on 3/9 should be fired. Obviously the job is beyond his capabilities or intelligence level.

I have no problem with sharing a cab with another person going in the same direction, I also don't mind waiting a little while when I know and trust a cab is coming. What I don't care for is a dispatcher flat out YELLING at me for not being ready for the cab picking me up. I mentioned that usually the dispatchers will call (which they always had in the past) or beep (which I couldn't hear from my SILENT apartment) in order to notify me the cab had arived. The way I was treated over the phone by a dispatcher was dumbfounding and undeserved. The cabbies are always polite and kind but more than one evening I have encountered this AWFUL dispatcher. As somebody who works in the service industry I am ashamed of this man's behavior.

Terrible drivers, terrible dispatchers, and just plain terrible service.
I live in Winthrop, and have watched Viking Taxi drivers run stop signs, red lights, and have total disregard for pedal bikes, and pedestrians. The first time I used Viking, I had to be into work (Boston, Copley) for 4:30AM. I called the night before to set up a ride. The cab picked me up (on time) and then proceeded to pick up another passenger to bring into the city. This may be a common practice with this cab company, but A) they never asked, or notified me that they will be doing this, B) kept the fair running, and C) made me 15 minutes late.
My second run i with Viking was similar. I called the night before to get a ride to the airport. I needed to be at Logan for 3:45AM, so I asked for a 3:30AM pickup. The dispatcher told me that I could not have a 3:30AM pickup, and that I could either have 3:00AM or 4:00AM. I told them no, I need 3:30, as leaving at 4:00 would make me miss my flight, and leaving at 3:00 would make me have to wake up earlier than needed. I ended up calling Patriot Taxi in Revere, and they had not problem doing what cab companies are supposed to do, pick you up when YOU want, and dropping you off on time when YOU want.

My Grandmother, Grace Conway lives in Winthrop and takes Viking cabs very often. Everytime I talk to her she tells me about Tony and Maureen who take such good care of her. These days Nana is unsteady on her feet so they pull right up the driveway so make it as easy as possible. Once down the center they take her to the bank and wait while she goes in and then take her to her next stop.
I want to thank the great people at Viking cab for taking such good care of my Grandmother when her family is not able to transport her to and from her errands!

This great local taxi company is very reliable. I have used them frequently for trips to the airport and they have never failed to arrive on time as expected. A couple of times when I was tardy they have been good enough to call to make sure I had not overslept.

Friendly and knowledgable drivers.

PROS: cheap fare, friendly drivers, reliability
CONS: some vehicles are older

As of this writing $2.50 will take you from any point in Winthrop to another point in Winthrop. Trips to the T stop or to the grocery stores in Revere are more, but reasonable. Even the fare to Logan Airport from Winthrop is reasonable. Being car-less since I've lived here has not been an issue between the local bus and Viking. They can get busy, and one may need to wait a bit or may need to share the cab with other people. (Hey, if there are three people picking up at CVS going in the same direction, it's only practical to put them all in the same cab, right?) The drivers are also friendly and will share all the latest news and info about the latest eating hot-spots.

PROS: Reasonable, flat fares

If you are in need of a cab to the East Boston, Winthrop, or Revere area, it can be tricky to get a taxi company in Boston to get you there. Most have some policy regarding the tunnel and add a ridiculous fee to your fare. Viking Taxi, however, does not use meters and does not charge fees. The rates do not go up, so you can always expect reasonable prices. They take multiple customers at one time, but it is better than waiting 30 minutes in the cold or rain for another cab. Viking drivers even help you with your groceries if need be.

PROS: low fares, no fees, friendly service
CONS: multiple customers at the same time
