I went there for the first time based on previous reviews from this site. I was able to get in with Caitlin, as was recommended by one of the reviewers. I am 25, so I thought since she is also young that she would have some good suggestions for me. I haven't gotten my hair cut for months and lost whatever "style" I had, so I really was really hoping to get some suggestions from the stylist. I got there and first had my eyebrows waxed. That actually went very well, except that the wax room is downstairs in the basement. It was very dark and just a bit strange. But the woman who did the waxing was so sweet and so nice. When I got upstairs you could tell that Caitlin was irritated because she was waiting for me. I told her what I liked and what I didn't and asked what she thought. Her response was "yeah, that sounds fine". I asked for more feedback and she didn't have any. I was very disappointed by this and actually kinda of nervous. I told her I had a picture of what kind of side swept bangs I wanted and she said that she didn't need to see it because she knew exactly what I was talking about. When I say sideswept bangs I am talking about the Nicole Richie type bangs that are angled off to the side. Caitlin cut my bangs STRAIGHT across, no angle. I was shocked when she showed them to me in the mirror. I wanted to cry. It was awful. She told me that she was going to cut off about 2 inches off the length, which ended up being about 4. Again, I was so upset. I am very particular about my hair and I don't like to lose much length. I thought that maybe once it was styled it would look better. I told her that I flat iron it and I don't like it when it's just blow dried. All she did to style my hair was blow dry it. It was a poofy, frizzy mess. It looked like I had helmet hair. It was completely ridiculous and when she took the smock off and asked what I thought, I couldn't even look at myself. I just got up, paid and left. I didn't know what to say because I was so stunned and I would never refuse to pay, although I probably should've. Honestly, I was so embarrassed that I just wanted to get out of there so no one would see me. Even the stylist next to Caitlin was looking at me funny. When I got home I took a shower and styled it the way I liked it, but the bangs were awful still and the length was pretty short for my taste. I was able to salvage the bangs by pulling more hair into them and cutting them longer, but they are still very short and very straight. I am going on vacation in 2 days and will probably wear a hat the whole time or buy a lot of clips to pin it back. I cannot wait for it to grow and I would never go back there.
One thing I would like to note is that the owner was at the salon and did stop by and say hello which I thought was very nice. I would've liked her to see the final product because she probably would've fixed it.
Also, the only conversation Caitlin made was when she try selling me products. If I wanted to buy something, trust me, I would let you know.
I've been going to Caitlin at Tania for a couple of years now, and she does a great job at cut and color. I was pleasantly surprised on my first visit, especially since she's so young. Now I follow her suggestions and totally trust her - and I'm an aging hipster from San Francisco, so I didn't expect to get city style at a suburban place, believe me.
I also had a very nice facial with Maria, which was really affordable. Aveda skin products aren't my fave, but everyone' skin is different.
I would, however, steer clear of Linda's massages - they actually hurt my skin from all the dragging and pulling, yet left my sore muscles untouched.
I love Tania's. The girls are great and so is the service. I always feel like a million dollars when I leave there. Aveda products are the best too. Tania's is always clean. I never worry about getting a bad haircut, massage, manicure, pedicure, wax or color. They are the best!!!!
I was SO excited when this salon came to town. It looked beautiful on the outside, they had a great presentation of products, the salon owner was purported to be from a Newbury Street salon. Finally, I thought, a city salon in Wakefield! Made my first appointment, I thought with the owner, and ended up with this complete bridge and tunnel townie hairstylist. The second I saw her I was nervous. If this was the woman who was cutting m hair, I should be concerned. BUT - instead of listening to my instincts, I let her cut it - and ended up with an 80s mushroom of a layer cut. I had to go to a second salon (on Newbury Street) to have it fixed and it took about a year plus for my hair to regain its length. I never went back...until just the other day, when I called the receptionist for a non hair related service. Just to see. She was so sullen, so terse, so abrubt on the phone that I've finally realized - this salon just isn't worth it.
I have been a customer at Tania's for a few years and have always had great results. The salon is beautiful and immaculate and the employees are all very friendly and sociable. If you're looking for a Newbury Street cut in a local town then Tania's is the place for you!
I was two seconds from making an appointment here, because I have had good experience with salons that are linked to Aveda. Then, I was quickly reminded this is where a family member got their hair CHOPPED big-time. Luckily, I went to Curio instead (see my review!) I just don't understand why people who choose hair stylist as their profession can't break down and learn how to CORRECTLY cut layers. I have had soooo many bad cuts, that I couldn't risk going here. My family member's hair was bad enough to really upset them, and I get the same way with a bad haircut!

I went to this salon recently for the first time. Tania, the owner, was very friendly and welcoming. The staff seemed nice. The salon itself is beautiful although there really didn't seem to be much of a waiting area. There was just this long long leather-upholstered bench to sit while waiting.
The stylist who cut my hair was pleasant but quite honestly, she seemed almost disinterested. Even after I explained how I wanted my hair cut, she really didn't seem to be listening. The cut was okay but not really what I wanted. The price was very reasonable though.
Pros: Aveda products, very welcoming both people and decor
Cons: Very small waiting area
Tania salon is really beautiful and the employees are incredibly friendly. I got my haircut by Caitlin and she was a sweetheart, she really listened to what I wanted and gave me a great cut and style. And the Aveda products are amazing. I will definitely be back.
I went to Tanias Salon and Spa and had the most wonderful experience. The staff was kind and the atmosphere was relaxing. I would recommend that everyone try it at least once.
