This Place is a Joke
by Brian S.
This is my first time purchasing anything from Farmland. I have a large family and friends that live in the Wakefield area who frequently go to the store. I been in search of a good bakery since the La Contessa bakery in Somerville closed. I recently order a graduation cake at Farmland, a double sheet to feed some 70 people. I met with the bakery dept five days prior to me picking up the cake. I gave them the college emblem that I wanted on the cake and we discussed the cake decorating (flower arrangement) that would dress the cake. I was told it would be ready Sunday morning any time after 8:00AM. I paid the $85.00 in advance. I told them a friend would be picking it up. My friend showed up to pick up the cake at 9:30AM Sunday morning. NO CAKE, they never made it. They asked if I still wanted it. My friend called and I told him I needed a cake, there was going to be eighty people at the party and we needed it. They made the cake, after waiting over an hour; my friend took the cake to the party in the lakes region of NH. When we got the cake we couldnt believe it. They had put the college emblem upside down on the cake. The flowers that were put on the cake, (only a few) were from somebody who NEVER ever decorated a cake before.
My wife looked at it and told me to throw it away; she did not want to put it out. I was sort of stuck at this point so I put it out and told everybody it was made by the village idiot.
My brother-in-law who recommended Farmland apologized. The only reason why I took the time to write this email was that I called Farmland and spoke to the woman in the main office she told me someone would get back to me. NOBODY had the courtesy to ever call me back. That is a DISGRACE and I, nor will my family and friends ever do business with Farmland again. However, I still am looking for a good Italian bakery to go to, if anybody knows one, leave the name on this website, it will not just help me but many people in that area.

More mixed review

The Farmland's produce, prepared foods, deli, and meats are very good. I agree, however, that the owners are not friendly. I've been going there for 19 years and they still act grumpy or even condescending sometimes - in spite of the fact that they now have competition from a real supermarket (Shaw's) in town.
If they run out of the deli items, bread, or any item (and they frequently do), don't expect an apology - they just don't care as long as no food goes to waste. Food=5 stars, Service=2 stars

Farmland: Great Quality
by CJ C.
For many years, I have been visiting Farmland. This is not a grocery store. They do offer some groceries but, as noted in the first post, they are a bit expensive.
Farmland instead has very high quality produce, meats (the marinated steak tips are a BBQ hit), and cold cuts. If you go there focused on these three things, you will never be disappointed. The prices on those items are incredibly reasonable given the quality.
The attached bakery makes this a one-stop shop for backyard BBQs. 5 stars from me.

Love / Hate this Grocery Store

This store is a really "cute" grocery store, even from the outside. Their plastic bags are even double thickness! They have a deli that serves food you can just pop into the oven (which is pretty good.) Their groceries are really overpriced though, and the owners aren't the most friendly in the world. I was really debating between two and three stars... so really, I give it two and a half. I would recommend checking it out yourself at least once, to make your own call.
