We stayed at the Chatham Bars Inn in August of 2007 and I certainly hope that ownership of the CBI has learned something since. When such large prices are being charged, there has to have more going for it as inn than ocean front location and "lineage" (mentioned by a former reviewer) for it to remain successful. For top notch prices food, service, and room appointments should be also top notch. Front desk people should welcome all as if they are important to their existence, not giggle and talk behind the desk (while we patiently wait) and not know what specials are being offered that day. We were told the boat service to the island was free, had to wait almost an hour (then come back again) for the young captain to roused from bed, and then find it on our bill. Dinner in the restaurant was mediocre and it was practically impossible to catch a waiters eye for a second cup of coffee at breakfast. The famous large lobster rolls at the luncheon area had been reduced drastically to a large circle of bread in the center with much less lobster around it. There were empty spaces next to the sinks in the bathrooms, so we had to lay our cosmetic cases on the floor to have access to our cosmetics. My daughter left our concerns in the box at the front desk with her telephone number, and no one phoned her back. Later we ate at the Wequasset's restaurant, 28 Atlantic, and the difference in employee training was dramatic. It is the latter's attention to detail that makes it a favorite of discriminating inn-goers.

My husband and I love to stay at the Inn during the off season (when the prices are very reasonable!) We've gone twice so far and it will definitely be an annual get-away. Both times we stayed in a spa suite. It was the most luxurious, relaxing place I've ever been! The rooms are all set up in a slightly different layout but include a double steam shower, sauna, and jacuzzi bath tub! There's also a heated pool, jacuzzi right behind the suites. The room service/food prices are quite expensive so we bring lots of snacks and go someplace local to eat, although not much is open during that time of year. I splurged and got a wonderful massage in the spa last time which I believe was only about $70. It is definitely a wonderful way to treat yourself!

I have stayed there twice. Both times it has been during the off-season, and both times it has been for events hosted by TV Diner. The first time, I stayed in the main inn. The lobby of the main inn is vast and expansive with a roaring fire to warm you in the winter. The porch on the front of the inn has an absolutely incredible view of the ocean. My room was on the second floor. My room was beautifully appointed and even had an outside balcony. Unfortunately, I did not get a good night sleep because the walls are paper thin, and the couple in the next room were having a knock-down drag out battle with each other. I heard all the details. The walls need to be sound-proofed better. I attended a TV Diner function at the Monomoy Meeting House, and it was spectacular. There were passed hors d'ouevres and a raw bar with oysters and shrimp and a carving station with beef. The food was amazing. The next day was Sunday, and I had the buffet in the dining room that overlooks the ocean. Again, the food was superb! During my second visit, I requested a cottage. The cottage was definitely not like your normal cottage. It was more like my own condo, overlooking the ocean. I heard the seagulls while I was drifting off to sleep. If you stay at the Chatham Bars Inn, request a cottage. I stayed in the cottage called Breakwater and had a front room. It was stunning. I slept like a rock! This is an extremely expensive hotel, but if you can go during off-season and get a special rate...you will not be disappointed!

The main dining room offers exceptional white table cloth service overlooking Chatham harbor. The food, what there was of it, was good. However, due to the meager portion sizes I would rate the Inn a poor dining value and would not go back again. I fail to understand why some very upscale, and expensive, venues fail to comprehend when you're charging $30+ for an entree your customer should not go home hungry.
This is not the first time I've encountered a white plate with the food barely covering half the plate. Despite sitting in the main dining roon at the Inn I thought we had ordered off a tapas menu. You'd think even if the chef was going to economize by offering a very small portion of the entree, the piece of swordfish couldn't have been more than 5-6 oz, he/she could have compensated by putting more than 4 spoonfuls of mash potatoes under it.
Dinner for two, two drinks, no appetizers or salad, was $100 including tip. Leaving hungry, on the way home we stopped to get some more to eat - no kidding.

The food was great the service was almost as good as MacDonalds. We have gone to the ChathamBars for years and this is the first time off season visit. I swear the waitress was chewing gum while she was waiting on us. I will not go back even if the price was far. What ever happen to the salad and the sorbet.

The wine didn't even have a drip collar and you had to serve it yourself. How would you like to get the cork half way through the meal.

This place may be tops internationally but I am affard to stay anywhere noted after this visit.

Pros: View is great

Cons: Do not like dinning in formal room with people with sweat pants

From the bellman to the grounds staff. Everybody was pleasant and kind. A walk on the beach, a day at the spa and then dinner at the Chef's Table is just what my husband and I needed. We were both able to take a deep breath for the first time in a long time. A time we will truly never forget.

Pros: The Spa

Cons: Wish we could have stayed longer!
