BEWARE: Random fees!

by Kristen D.

I joined this gym for $35/month and no contract, no sign up fee. I was told that were no additional fees. I got an email last month that they were charging a $20 maintenance fee. Yes, an email.

I told them they weren't authorized to charge this money, but they stole it from my account this week. I'm going to file fraud charges. I would not recommend this gym. You need to sign papers to quit, but an email is good enough for them to authorize additional payment.

Reasonable priced and a good work out can be had.

by David W.

Mikes Gym is a very good gym for a good work out. It has a good and friendly staff. The people that go to Mikes Gym are of all different ages from young to senior citizens. They have great cardio machines that are new and well kept up. They all people of different nationalities. They have two floors of free weights. I am not into free weights at this time. I find the main floor great for me because it has all the machines for cardio and strength. I have only live in MA for about 5 years. I live in Everett so I do not know about the area. Whether it is good or bad. I would recommend MG gym to anyone I come in contact with. It does not have a pool or sauna or a fancy locker room but it is a clean and relaxing place to do your workouts for 1/3 the price of other gyms in the area. I checked out Boston sports club and found it very plush and had a pool and a Gym. It was also 3 times the cost of MG fitness center and people were waitng to use the treadmills and other machines. Not a relaxing place but a fast paced tense atmosphere. The staff was not as friendly as MG fitness center.I feel Mikes is the right place for a good work out and a friendlily atmosphere with a great price.

THIS GYM SUCKS

by bobby b.

First off some native american douchebag owns the place which i find hilarious, who is never there. The workers there are far from in shape and steal your money, they charge 10 dollars to work out for the day as a guest even if you were already a member and want to come for the day. Steam room smells like piss and the place is loaded with scum bags on top of it there are no hott women their. go to LA fitness something nicer then DIKES gym

Great Club & Great Price

by John B.

Wow, what can I say? This club has tons of equipment and allows you to do many different routines. The cardio is new and you never have to wait for a machine. The classes are awesome and the instructors really motivate! Strength training is separated with free weights and selectorized on 3 floors. I can't believe how much the staff cares about their members and all at a very reasonable membership. I would suggest this club to anyone. I've been to other clubs in the past, but nothing quite this good all around!

Mike's Gym Steals Your Money

by JOE S.

First off, the gym is dirty and smells like a VFW bar room. The equipment is old and most of it is broken with notebook paper signs excusing the inconveinence. They sucked me for the $30/month membership, but now that I have moved trying to cancell my non-contractual agreement has been a nightmare. I was told they recieved my cancellation via fax, then the next month my debit card was charged! I called to speak with someone and was told the only person that could help is the manager and he is only in on Wednesday! Well I called wednessday and no manger..NOW I HAVE BEEN CHARGE FOR TWO EXTRA MONTHS AND STILL HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO CANCEL MY MEMBERSHIP. THE OWNERS ARE HACKS WHO NO NOTHING ABOUT CUSTOMER SERVICE AND I CANT WAIT TO WATCH THEM GO UNDER!

Best in the area for my money

by Gus T.

MG Fitness, as it's now known, is a great club without a lot of bells and whistles. The memberships are very reasonable in my opinion, they offer you several options. They have lots of cardio equipment, I've never had to wait for a machine and nothing's worse than standing around waiting for a bench or treadmill. They have 3 floors with heavy lifting equipment upstairs and dumbells downstairs. Plus their dumbells go up to 130 lbs! (not that I need it but you might) I seldom leave the main floor, I prefer machines... The men's locker room is nothing special but what do I care, I only go in to go to the bathroom. It's big enough and clean however. For the most part the staff is excellent. Imagine a club where they actually say hello and goodbye to you?! This may mean nothing to you but I work in customer service and it means a lot to me.

Cheap!

by Jennifer W. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 1,647

This is one of the cheapest gyms I've tried around the greater Boston area. It's not as well known and sort of out of the way, but that means less people and more available machines. It's a bit small but meets your needs if you're into lifting weights and working out on the basic machines. No pool, sauna and extra amenities but good for a cheap, convenient workout.

Cheap, easy and basic

by D. V. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 1,160

Mike's Gym is very basic, no pool, no sauna but it's just what's needed for weight lifting. It has the cardio machines as well but the main focus is the weight machines. The hours are extremely convenient - very early to fairly late each day. It's not located in the poshest area of Medford but hey, it's cheap and our car was never broken into. I used to arrive there at 5am and never had any problems when it was dark.

PROS: Cheap, ok weight machines
CONS: No pool or sauna but Rocky didn't have either of these either :)

Great workout

by morganmo

This gym has everything you need to get in great shape! I like it because it has lots of free weights, plenty of cardio, and a non intimidating atmosphere. I haven' t tried the group classes yet, but a lot of members rave about them. I think the biggest difference between this gym and others I have tried in the past is the staff and customer service. They really made me feel that I was part of everything. I would recommend this gym to anyone!

Lots of Machines, No waiting.

by chernd00

This gym has a ton of machines - treadmills, ellipticals, stair steppers, bike, weights, etc. There are also a lot of classes included in membership, though times not really geared toward working professionals in Boston. Some weekend classes. There are personal TVs on all the treadmills and about 10 flat screen TVs in front of the other equipment. Located in the Foodmaster Plaza in Medford, near Rt. 60 and the Fellsway.

Pros: Lots of Machines, TVs

Cons: Limited hours on weekends, not as many later classes (after 7pm)
