There is no better Thai cuisine in Boston than at Bangkok Blue. Our experienced chefs prepare authentic Thai food, each dish individually suited to your taste, from mild to spicy, using best quality ingredients fresh daily. Low carb programs can be requested. Be sure to complement your food with a bottle or two of Thai beer or a glass of wine.

The Scene
International tourists, business types and Thai-loving students break here from shopping on Newbury Street, networking at the nearby Hynes Convention Center or studying at the nearby Boston Public Library. Tiny green lights hanging over tiled tables and floors, accentuating the small and somewhat trendy greenish-blue room. Floor-to-ceiling windows look out on a handful of sidewalk tables bathed in natural lighting.

The Food
Locals exalt the noodle and curry dishes especially. Flavorful drunken noodles (tofu, chicken or seafood over stir-fried rice noodles with chili peppers, bean sprouts and assorted vegetables and spices) are more than most can finish in one sitting. Although the menu describes itself as "Exotic Thai Cuisine," nothing here is particularly exotic. However, the restaurant offers a separate menu for its Thai customers, including several items not featured on the American menu, with extra herbs and spices more palatable to tongues accustomed to traditional Thai flavorings.

Key Points

  • Traditional Thai Dining
  • Outdoor Tables
  • Downtown

The Inside Scoop

  1. The Extras - Ask the chefs to steam your tofu instead of frying: They're happy to oblige.
  2. Know Before You Go - Many spicy dishes default on the side of scorching hot. Specify your preferred spice level upon ordering to avoid receiving a dish too hot to eat.
  3. Where to Sit - Tables along the front windows or on the sidewalk afford some of the best people-watching in Boston, but they're very popular. Call ahead to insure a spot.

Great place for lunch

by Sandra M. | insider Insider | Rank: 24,528

Perfect place for lunch. Portions are great and lots of choices. Service is quick and food is also good as take out. Highly recommend the chicken mango curry and pad thai.

ok food... service not so ok

by Jett H.

The food at Bangkok blue was fairly flavourful.. their portion sizes could be a bit bigger, but overall I would eat the food their again. I was disappointed in the level of customer service I got there though. The staff were not very friendly ... but hey - everyone is entitled to a bad day!

authentic flavors, right price

by foodie512

I have been to Bangkok Blue a few times, as it is convenient to my work place. The service is fast, flavors far more authentic than other Thai places I have tried (innumerable), and they don't use MSG (I asked!). Considering the Copley location, the prices are very reasonable.

The best part is that they have a menu for the American palate and a menu for the Thai palate. If you want to try dishes not available in most Thai restaurants, just ask to look at the Thai menu, it has English translations. My favorite is the fried cat fish salad.

Pros: Steps from Copley T, Authentic menu, Alfresco dining

Cons: Hard to Park

by jann_ma

I went there twice times with my friends and felt so disappointed. The food is unreasonable price and the taste made me feel blue.My friend told me that this restaurant put a lot of MSG in any dishes.I decided not to come back here again and I will go to the better choice of bangkok blue.

Cons: crowded table, put MSG -_-", expensive

Yummy food but cramped quarters

by JennyAnn

The food here was delicious. The service was good, but the restaurant itself was not spacious. The tables were on top of each other and it was hard to get in and out of your seat.

Pros: Delicious food

Cons: Crowded seating

not so blue!

by icie

the food is super delicious and the ambience is great... it was actually recommended to me by my thai friends! when you go, make sure to ask for the 'thai menu' (don't worry, it's got english translations on it), that's where all the good stuff is! :)

Pros: delicious, not too expensive, great ambience

Cons: hard to park
