This store offers some great clothes, accessories, and even some books and other miscellaneous items that are reasonably priced. I've made purchases and consigned with them before, and every time I've had the "pleasure" of dealing the old lady who works there, I've left irritated and frustrated. She is soooooo condescending (lady you work in a USED CLOTHES store, and you're like 80!) and her lack of customer service makes you think she doesn't want your business. The first time I interacted with her, she started treating me a tad bit nicer for the time being after learning where I lived.

I most recently brought in a bunch of things to consign, all of which I had ironed the evening before, and placed on hangers prior to bringing in. The old lady could not have been more rude in her tone of voice in telling me she wasn't interested in the first group of clothes I brought in. She scoffed at the boots I showed her (worn once, barely scuffed at the bottom) and told me boots has to be brand new. despite the other shoes/boots sitting on the racks in far more "worn-in" copndition.

In my next load as I struggled to get in the door from the freezing cold (she didn't come help or hold the door) she started telling me she could "tell she wasn't interested" in the items. Frustrated, finally fed up with this place, I responded in the same tone of voice, saying that she didn't even KNOW what I had and she hadn't even looked. She started YELLING at me saying "I'm just not interested, if you want to argue with me, fine." I told her I didn't want to argue with her, but I believed that since I dragged the items in from the 7 degree weather, she owed it to me to take a look at it. She sighed, rolled her eyes, and said fine.

She looked at everything and pushed it aside, commenting on how all of the clothes "are really supposed to come in from the dry cleaner's on their hangers" and all my cardigans should have been buttoned, etc. I told her that I've never done that in the past (which is the truth, and besides, why would I dry clean a sweater you are going to sell for $15, for me to make $7 back?!) All my clothes were in great condition, on hangers, and pressed the night before, as I said. I showed her 2 pairs of designer brand shoes (both in wonderful condition, I just don't wear them anymore) and she barked at me, "I TOLD YOU they had to be brand new for shoes!" I said a few times that their policy must have changed since I last consigned with them and she didn't like that very much and finally she said, "yup, you're right, we changed our policy" just to shut me up. Every item of clothing was met with an exasperated sigh, an eye roll, or a rude comment. She claimed they didn't take particular labels I had, all of which I've given to them before, and were currently on the racks. I also tried to re-consign a skirt that I purchased from them the season before and when I brought it in, I was told that they didn't take that label..... ummm, you did last year?!

These are only a few remarks from the 10 minutes total I spent in the store. I was going to look around to see if there was anything I wanted to buy, but then decided I couldn't give money to a store with such employees. I took my stuff and just walked out without saying a word. The lady didn't bother to thank me for my time or even say good bye.

I have since consigned at Off the Rack in Norwell (great experience) and also ReCreations in Kingston, which was wonderful. Please do not support Beach Plums, even though they have some good stuff. They treat their customers terribly. I've read other reviews and I know EXACTLY which lady everyone is referring too. She is just plain mean.

I called Beach Plums for the first time in mid-July and the loveliest, calm and most patient lady was please to answer their consigning policy questions. This nice lady said they only take Designer Clothing. I took photos of all the clothing I brought and kept them on the memory card of my camera. The next day I took 16 items of clothing. One was from Potpourri Designs with the tags on. The lady said "We don't take this designer. We never heard of them". They take "Talbots", "Liz Claiborne" and even "The Express". I was told the policy and understood it. I called and they told me certain items were sold and marked them off my sheet. The store marks a consignor's items half price after 30 days. The store and the consignor split the sale 50/50. I went in the day before my unsold items were "to be given to charity" to collect them. I walked in cheerfully and smiling and different woman was at the desk from before. I told her what I was there for and also asked if all the summer clothing on the rack in the entire store was half price? She was talking in circles and told her I didn't understand and she snapped at me and degraded me. I went from a great mood to a very bad one. I raised my voice and told her she is very rude and degrading and how dare she treat anyone in the store that way. She was still nasty and I raised my voice louder and said it was my first time going thru consigning and my clothes are pristine and lovely and she's working for me and she's not the only consigner around and that her attitude was degrading and appalling. I then asked where the owner was. She replied, "I am the OWNER! I replied, "You've got to be kidding me"! I had my own business an would never treat a customer rudely like she was then I asked her name. Also told her to get my clothes, give me my money and I'm consigning somewhere else the following week. She asked nastily, "What's your account number"? I provided it and had my copy of the clothing that the nice lady itemized in detail six weeks before. So, while she's doing her thing, I decided to look for my clothes on the racks. One unworn piece from Talbot's was missing and I was thinking, "Oh boy, this is going to be a showdown". I pulled out my camera to show her the piece on the memory card. She found it in the dressing room. She said I have to come back for my check in mid September. She's too cheap to mail it!!! Ten out of the 14 items sold. It was a most disturbing experience. I told her earlier that she was cranky. She's so nasty, I was shocked!!! I could have easily left my clothes to be "given to charity", but I have a strong feeling they don't go to charity at all but consigned the folowing year. They had non-designer labels I see at TJ Maxx and Marshalls. Her employees are lovely and very very nice, but she's the flipside like a demon.

The owner of this store is rude and uncompromising. She does not itemize the clothes when they are left for consignment. Upon receiving an itemization in the mail there was an indication that some items were not suitable for consigment. When I went to get these items, I was missing a coat. The owner said the coat was not there and implied I was lying about brining it in. She was extremely rude and refused to compensate me in any way for the item. I will never use this store again and I warn anyone considering to do so to be very, very careful.

Beach Plums is in affluent Norwell, and has a great selection of top brand name clothes for women and men. I've seen everything from beachwear to wedding gowns here. The really 'elite' brands are priced accordingly, but still a bargain when you compare to retail. THey always seem to have a great number of shoes for women, and many accessories. You can really put together an outfit here, from top to bottom. Nice service as well.
