Absolutely THE best Pizza I have had on the North Shore. Shared a pizza with my GF and we had to fight for the crust (she never eats the crust). Great beer selection, and the wild mushroom arancini was out of this world. We have been coming to Soma for a few months now (since we moved to Beverly) and it has always been consistently great!

SOMA, short for the Same Outstanding Meal Again, is an amazing experience. With scrumptous specials, an amazing wine list and service comparable to Boston's 5-Star restaurants (but without the overpriced menu and long wait), it's a favorite of not only my wife and me, but also many of my friends. If you're looking for a great night out with food and friends or family, this is your place. Period.

Soma is a beautifully decorated place. Attention to detail is a key element here from the sexy bar top to the black accoustic tiles that cover the entire ceiling ( when packed u can here a pin drop ) the walls are tastefully decorated with warm inviting colors & local works of art, that just draw u in as if you were home. Now living in Sarasota,fl i come back to Boston 4-5 times per year and it's my 1st stop for lunch or dinner. Last night i had the Lobster Mac-n-cheese it was excellent, creamy and loaded with fresh lobster. The pizza is to die for ( seriously ) the food is always fresh and presentation is spot on. The wait staff and bartenders really bring thier A game each and every night. Nick Paras has done an amazing job with Soma and has brought Northshore Dining to new heights. Thanks Nick see yah soon.

Cons: none that I can think of.

There are as many bars and places to eat in Beverly as there are street corners. Many are nondescript. Soma stands out as a classy, high end alternative for great and unique food and drinks. The staff is very friendly, professional and accommodating. The atmosphere is chic, with a beautiful bamboo bar and local artisans work on the walls. If you have a chance to visit Soma you will not be disappointed. My suggestion would be to ask what the specialty drink is. The pizza's are out of this world and it is also open for lunch which is a rarity in Beverly. Relax and Enjoy!

a cool place for downtown Beverly. a little pricey on the drinks, but a great place to socailize. Don't try to get there too late on New Year's. You won't get in

I and 12 of my closest family and friends went to Soma a couple of weeks ago, and I must say that this was probably the best meal I have had in a long time!
Noted we did get some special things prepared for us as a couple of my friends knew the chef but no matter what the food was excellent.

Being a large group the restaurant accommodate us very well.
We decided to do a 3 course menu and as everyone wanted to try all the appetizers we decided upon the kitchen made sure there was plenty of everything and served them family style.
Having heard that Soma is famous for its Mojitos and Martinis we dove right in and tried plentiful and the rumor is true - they are really good!
The food was unforgettable and cooked to perfection.
We all shared Calamari, Mussels PEI, Arroncini which were all to die for.
Maine courses were even better:
Homemade pasta with lobster in a cream sauce w fennel was exquisite and the Scallops w pureed cauliflower and pea puree and a redwine reduction was to die for. The duck and lamb were cooked and seasoned perfectly.
The desserts were especially made for us and were unreal. Napoleon style wafers w berries and cream anglaise and best of all white currants which is a very rare sight here indeed- it was so light and refreshing and was a great end to an excellent meal.
But wait the chef wasn't done - knowing that I LOVE Madeleine?s he prepared fresh, warm ones for us. Happy and stuffed to the guiles I must say that this is the best experience and food I have had from Chef Seth Fernald.
If you are ever in the neighborhood you should try this place and it is definitely worth the drive from Boston - great food and drinks, great atmosphere.
Price is better then the City for the quality of food, try it!

My husband & I were looking for a nice date place. I'm 9 months pregnant & we won't have the opportunity for a while, so after reading some reviews we decided to try Soma. We can't wait to go back!
The space is clean, simple & modern - but not that "trying too hard" mod some places go for. The waitstaff was competent, efficient, friendly, knowledgeable, but not intrusive. Although I cannot comment on the taste of the booze, I was jealous of all the options my husband had to choose from & can't wait to go back to try them. The cocktail list is expansive & creative; the wine list is varied with many affordable choices; great beer selection - overall fantastic bar.
As for the food, we chose to share 5 appetizers like a 5 course tasting menu, which they were totally cool with:
Course 1 - Tempura fried stuffed squash blossoms over arugula with a citrus vinaigrette. Loved the seasonal, vegetal squash blossoms, creamy filling & light tempura batter. Wasn't oily at all and the clean citrus dressing & spicy arugula cut the richness of the blossoms. Get it while you can!
Course 2 - Chilled Tuscan Melon soup with creme fraiche & prosciutto chip. Yum! Cool, smooth, light & refreshing. Creme fraiche added creaminess & the prosciutto chip provided an excellent salty counterpart.
Course 3 - Risotto of the day with garlic scapes, fava bean, fennel & truffle oil. Not gluey, good texture, very cheesy, could have used a bit more liquid - but we prefer a soupy-er risotto than most. Great flavors overall.
Course 4 - Panzanella Salad with cucumbers, yellow pear tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, basil-infused olive oil & balsamic vinegar. Loved the texture as the bread was NOT soggy! Refreshing yet filling.
Course 5 - PEI Mussels with fries. Perfectly seasoned fries with an herb aioli, good quality mussels with a very flavorful broth.
Dessert - Lavender shortbread with fig sorbet, balsamic reduction & fresh figs & strawberries. The perfect end to the night!

I love the atmosphere, drinks, and food at Soma! The service needs work - I think they are going for a non-pushy staff setting, but we had to flag them down to get drinks, food, AND the bill at the bar.

I was in the area traveling for business last saturday and stubled upon Soma with a few co-workers. I was greeted by a very nice women and seated promptly. The decor was beautiful and the atmosphere exactly what I needed fun but most of all relaxing.
We were greeted by our server Barbie who was a delite to have wait on us. She was very knowledgable and polite. I have traveled quite a bit and it is rare to find this type of service. We ordered cocktails and a bottle of wine with our dinner, I definetly recommend the blueberry pomegrant martini, it is to die for.
The food was wonderful, and their were so many things to choose from. I ordered the scallops and was blown away starting with the appearance and even more by its flavor. Scallops are a tough thing to cook and the chef Mark Zimmerman did an unbelievable job. I loved the aparagus wrapped in bacon and the sauce was amazing.
I would recommend this restaurant to anyone. It was a pleasure to dine at.

i was just browsing city search when i came accros the review below. after dining at many restaurants in and around boston i've experienced simalar situations. i think it is absolutly rediculous that you would be expecting part of your meal comped. when i've been asked to move in the past i did so no problem, carrying my own plate of food and all. you obviously are the kind of person who doesn't understand the restaurant industry and i have a feeling that you were probably making a big deal about being asked to move. i personally have eaten in the bar and dining room at soma and loved it every time. they have great martini's and a good variety of food to choose from. i even met the owner once and he was a very likeable guy. anyways i give soma 2 thumbs up and would suggest all to try it.

I've eaten at Soma several times, and the food has always been good; however, on our most recent visit, we experienced poor service in the absolute extreme. After being seated, having our wine and salads served, the waitress came over and said the manager was asking us to please move to a different table so they could push a some tables together for a larger party! Apparently a group of 12 came in (without reservations) and the manager was willing to offend two patrons in order to accommodate the larger party. We were left to traipse across the dining room, carrying our wine glasses, to a different table to complete our meal. I was so flabbergasted, I was speechless. When I regained my voice, I asked to speak to the manager, who was not only unapologetic, he was downright insulting, saying something to the effect that he had the opportunity to seat a large party and he could hardly be expected to lose the business to the restaurant next door. While on some level I can completely understand his position, the fact that he neither apologized nor offered to comp us for at least our wine, was unbelievable. While the food is decent, there are many other great options on the North Shore where you won't run the risk of having
to endure such incredible rudeness and poor service. Try Mandrake (next door), Tryst, or Chianti (just up the street) for equally good food and far better service!!

Nick Speros obviously cut his teeth in Boston's finest restaurants and brings his outstanding talents to Beverly. I am not one for 'eclectic' food but even so, Soma's dishes are outstanding and worth the drive. Eat, be merry, and share the love at Soma. If you see Nick tell him "Big J" sent you, and ask him about the time 15 years ago when we used to sneak him into the dorm cafeteria so he could eat.

I went to Soma for the first time after reading the Boston Magazine article about suburban dining and I was not disappointed! Chef Nick Speros is unbelievably talented. Everything was wonderfully paired, flavors distinctively highlighted yet melding incredibly well together, and the presentation was beautiful. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who is looking for a big city meal, without actually driving to Boston. I really cant wait to go back with friends and show off what I have discovered!

Once the entrees hit the table there was an erie silence as we were too busy eating and groaning to speak. thank you SOMA!!!!!!!!!!!

Soma is hands down the best place for gourmet food or mixed drinks both inside or outside Boston.Theyre menu includes many old school and modern dishes. The service is top notch and rivals even the swankiest of places without the snobbery that one might expect. This is a must try for those that truly know good food.

I heard about this restaurant from a co-worker and decided to give it a try.
WOW was I suprised!!! As I entered SOMA My wife and I were greeted by a very polite young lady who promptly took our coats and brought us to a table. We were met at the table by our waiter who gave us our menus. Reccomend drink house speciality "SOMATINI". WOW
I got the lamb dish and my wife got chicken.
Her chicken was moist and seasoned exquisitely .The lamb was tender and juicy. After dinner we decided to treat ourselves to desert. Flourless Chocolate cake with rasberry sauce. The owner.. Nick... came over and asked us how dinner was. We replied that it was one of the best dinners we have had outside of Boston. We have gone back several times since then. This should mean something since we come down from New Hampshire.

Last year we tried Soma and we practically wept with joy over the lamb with risotto. Now with its new chef, it is like going to dinner at a your eccentric, organic aunt's house and eating clumsy "its good for you" food. Appetizers: pear with beets, prune gnocchis, letucces and yogurt salad. Pul-eese. Who pays to eat that stuff? My "lamb" tasted alot like mutton, just like the old country. My desert was never ordered (but they did comp it). The waitress and the chef are both brand new. Is that an excuse? The music was bassy and reverberated through the wall, ba bump, ba bump, ba bump. Just like that old college dorm room you had with the loud neighbors. I could not run out of there fast enough, $150 lighter for two people. Bottom line: check out the menu and chef du jour before you chance this place.

This place is unbelievable. The new chef has added a new demension to this restaurant that had a real hip scene, and great martinis, mojitos ect.... but was lacking from a culinary standpoint. NOT ANY MORE. Soma's food rivals any restaurant in Boston. hands down. I work in town, and have dined in almost every restaurant in Boston and Cambridge and believe this place in Beverly (two blocks from my home) will soon be considered a top restaurant in this city, Boston, New England!!!!!

I absolutely love everything about this restaurant. The waitstaff is incredible, the Spinach and Arugula salad has got to be the best salad I have ever had! My boyfriend hates salad, and he can not get enough of it! The drinks are the best, my recommendation is the Lychee-Mango Martini. It can be pricey, but it's definitely worth it. Order the salads for Take-Out alllllllllllll the time. Desserts are the best as well. I will be a frequenter to Soma forever.

Though there is an extensive drink menu, they are not mixed with an expert hand. Very heavy on the trendy mixers, and low on the alcohol. My apetizers came cold in the middle and stuck to the plate as though it had been sitting for a while. Menu was trying to hard and trendy, falling a few years behind the times. Waitstaff was unpfofessional, and made it clear that they would rather gather behind the bar to chew gum and gossip than answer customers questions. Room was nice and clean, though a bit dark and somewhat loud.
