Everything about my experience was great- clean and modern atmosphere, super-talented hairstylists (everywhere I looked, the hair was exceptional), service oriented staff, even the music was cool and interesting. I was very happy to find Umi, and will surely return.

Umi Salon is beautiful and the service is outstanding- but most importantly for me is the quality of the hair cuts and color- and the stylists I see there are absolutely expert. Very high quality, professional, and creative. The overall ambience of the salon is confident and calm, which I find unique for a salon. I highly recommend Umi Salon to those who are looking for great design and personable service.

This salon sets itself apart brilliantly with its cool, minimalist image, and backs it up with the most talented group of hairstylists I've ever observed under one roof. Truly the best and most fashion-forward- and by far the best service.

On the basis of publicity and one good cut with a stylist who has since left the salon, I booked an appointment for a major change/new look. I was assigned to a nice young woman who the receptionist said was good with wavy hair. I put myself in her hands but pointed out that my hair is fine and that layers could be tricky. She gave me a standard '80s layered cut that I could have gotten at any good suburban salon for half the cost. The cut was ill-suited to my hair and it simply sticks out and is very high maintenance. I think the salon's reputation is built on the owner's talent and the raves all seem to be about him. If you want to splurge to have him cut your hair it is probably worth it. Otherwise you may simply get a very expensive haircut. The salon is very quiet on weekdays. Salon staff all pleasant. No attitude. But I didn't find it to be worth the big price tag. And be prepared to be sold expensive Bumble and Bumble products. Good products, but, again, you're paying for hype. Make sure you ask how much before you say OK.

After having my hair cut with Jeffrey Dauksevich at his salon Umi, I realized that I have been missing that incredible feeling one should have after a visit with their hairstylist- the confidence I felt after my visit, and knowing that he understood what I needed was so exciting, especially given that he just knew, without my having to try to explain anything. He is a gifted person who deserves all the praise he and his salon recieves.

I'd been wanting a good hairstylist for a long time, and recently discovered Umi. I've had long, one length curly hair forever, and no stylist has ever really done anything with it. I took the plunge and sat with Jeffrey, who owns Umi.

It was the most I've ever spent on a haircut, and I honestly must tell all that after spending an hour with him sculpting, smoothing, and transforming my hair into a beautiful look, I feel I can't afford not to see him again. He is an absolute master at what he does, and his quiet focus on you is absolutely mesmerizing. I loved his salon, and, obviously, him.

Umi Salon is the only salon I've ever been to where every hair style looked like it could have come right out of a magazine. There was a constant, comfortable buzz throughout, and everyone was very chic and professional. I loved my haircut, and would recommend the salon to anyone who is seriously looking for a top level salon.

I had my hair colored the most beautiful brown at Umi Salon, and it has not faded ar gotten brassy... which until now I thought was absolutely impossible. My hair was cut brilliantly; not overly trendy or silly- very chic. The salon is very cool- overall it is a strong standout from the rest.

Umi is great because they are so creative and artistic about hair. I got much more out of my visit there than anywhere else in Boston, and I'm excited to go back. They made me realize how good a visit to a hair salon really can be- I wish I had found Umi Salon sooner!

My impressions were very positive; highly professional, stylish without beeing snooty, and great atmosphere. I got along fabulously with my stylist (who was top of the charts at giving advice), and walked out with the best hair I've had in a Boston salon.

Disaster is all I can say. From the minute i walked the front desk gave me attitude, my stylist gave me attitude insisted i needed a full highlight when all i wanted was a partial, started putting foils in the back and when i asked what he was doing he told me not to worry hes the professional.....ya so proffessional he went against what i wanted gave me a full and charged me an arm & a leg. REAL PROFFESIONAL!!! Word of advice to umi...listen to your clients, and maybe youll be able to keep some.

I was impressed with what Umi Salon had to offer- there is a very distinct feeling about it- it's very defined and modern, the stylists are high quality and very nice, and the hair that I saw being done was absolutely beautiful. I loved it, and I love my hair.

This salon is exceptional in so many ways- the service level is above and beyond, the haircuts are eye cathing and exciting- but what I found profoundly different was the feeling of the salon- the attention to every detail and the attitudes of the staff were impressive. My visit was with Jeffrey Dauksevich, the owner, who impressed me, not just with his artistry, but also with his ability to make you feel like you are the only person in the room.

I went to Umi for the first time and i can't recommend it enough!!! I went to ANOTHER salon in Boston and left with green hair. When I asked them to fix it they gave me a hard time and expected me to pay for it. Someone recommended Umi. My color came out beautiful. The stylist talked with me on what she was planning on doing and made me feel completely relaxed. I have gotten so many compliments on it. I'm going back to get my haircut. And I can't wait...

I am in my late fifties, I hadn't done much of anything with my hair in about about five years and I decided it was time for a change. After much research, I decided to schedule an appointment at Umi. I was grey, with a lot of damage from a bad permanent, and my haircut was grown out. I saw Beth, and after a thorough consultation with her, we decided for a one process color and a cut. I left the salon feeling and looking better than I had in years! Umi salon has such a pleasant atmosphere and I felt very accomodated. I look forward to my return!

I thought Umi Salon was fantastic. Calm, professional, and stylish, the service they provide is a comfortable notch above what one might expect from a Boston salon. The styling was interesting and fun to watch, which is easy to view the way the studio is set up, and you really feel like you are in the right place. I look forward to my return.

What else can I say? My stylist Christine was such a help to me and my hair disaster, I have never had such a relaxing massage/shampoo, the owner was a delight to meet and talk to, even the music was interesting... a great experience.

This salon is not just expensive, it is quite simply OVER-PRICED. $90 for a cut with a junior stylist? I would advise all prospective clients to look elsewhere. If you're going to pay $90 for a haircut you might as well go to New York where you'll get something truly unique- I walked out of Umi looking like a sitcom actress. On top of all that, why deal with a rude receptionist who treats you as if you're doing HER a disservice by being there? This place has disappointed me one too many times.

I think Umi Salon is the top in professionalism, creativity, and style. I was really surprised at how much attention to detail was spent on my hair. I went to Umi Salon to get my highlights done. My stylist (the owner) spent a lot of time explaining color options for me that were not what I considered radically different from what I had, but once it was done, it was dramatically improved. It is absolutely beautiful. I hadn't intended on getting my hair cut, but decided to do that as well, and that turned out to be a beautiful transformation, too. The entire experience was very calm but exciting. The minimalist studio look of the salon combined with the intensity of the owner's reserved vibe and artistic mind is a powerful combination that produces what I am today- a very pleased customer.

My haircut is perfect. I can run my hands through it, give it a shake, and it looks great. I have always wanted a cut like that. I thought the salon atmosphere was effortless and comfortable, and the stylists were expert and interesting to talk with. Overall, I found Umi to be a more sophisticated salon.

I am really happy to have discovered Umi. My hairstylist consulted with me thoroughly before anything was started, and I felt really confident there. Everything turned out better than I anticipated (cut and color- beautiful and cool), and I loved the people there. Everything felt just right.

$352 - I booked a full highlight and when at the salon added a cut. Beth with consult with the owner did a great highlight and toned the between the foils hair. I actually gasped when the receptionist told me that will be $352 - I was charged for a full highlight, a full color and a cut. Apparently I have two heads - when I complained - I was told the charge could not be backed out of the computer (ridiculous) and that I would have to call the salon manager on Monday, which I did. She called me back today, Friday, and said I got what I paid for. WOW - customer retention apparently not an issue. Beth is great. Salon - not so much. I would highly recommend that you ask exactly what services you are receiving and how much they will cost.
