My husband Richard and I love to celebrate our anniversary and other special occasions at The Four Seasons, especially at Aujourd'hui. Everyting about it is sooo Ohh'La-La !! Two years ago, we tried The Bristol Lounge out with some friends of ours from New York (our soon-to-be in laws !) We loved it !!
Excellent in every way. So perfect that we are now trying to persuade our daughter Alison-Leigh to plan her wedding there in 2010. However, the kids want to stay with New York, where our future son-in-law is now a
surgeon. Well, we have plenty of time to keep pestering them to marry in beautiful Boston at the Four Seasons !! Time will tell. We love the hotel and all it has to offer:) We highly recommend to all !!

This hotel seemed to be a fantastic place, but the service was terrible. They were rude and unexpectly snobbish. I would not recommend this place, unless you know they will cater to you

The Bristol Lounge is one of my favorite restaurants of all time! It has a great atmosphere/ambiance and the food is great. I've had so many wonderful meals I couldn't even begin to name them. The restaurant is very relaxed..not pretentious and fun for people watching both inside and along the street. I've gone here with boyfriends, ex boyfriends, parents, friends, birthdays. All occasions applicable! Definitely recommend!

The best brunch in the city. Lobster, crab, raw bar, sushi. Dim sum, beef, ham, chicken, lobster ravioli. Plus all the breakfast mainstays, salads and sides and a fantastic dessert table. all this and incredible service and wonderful view of the gardens. The 65.00 price tag is well worth it

This was my 2nd time dining at this restaurant. I had recently proposed and the maitre d made sure we were sat at the large windows overlooking the Common. Everyone congratulated us and was served complimentary champagne as we sat. The decor really is very elegant. The restaurant has done a fine job of coming across as being classy and luxurious without being stuffy.
The food was exceptional. High points to mention are the lobster bisque, beef loin and a great wine list. The highlight of the dinner was the Chocolate Souffle. It was simply to die for. If you do one thing in your life before you die, you must try this! I have never tasted anything better. The staff was polite, courteous and made sure we had the best possible experience. I highly recommend dining here.

This place is the best place for special occasion dining. My graduation dinner was here, and it was one of the most perfect experiences. We had to be moved to a sectioned off private room not part of the hotel, but the entire affair was catered by the restaurant (obviously). We had three bottles of complimentary champagne, a cheese and fruit tray, and five passed around hors d'ourves. Unbelieveable, all unpaid for. The room was better than anything in the restaurant, the view was spectacular, the windows were huge, there were comfy chairs and sofas, and it was all just beautiful. The food is impeccable. I picked the place because it was the highest rated restaurant in the city. Every reason for that. 11 people all loved their meal, and dessert. I really could go on all day. This place is decadent, spectacular, and makes me want to marry a rich man so I ccould eat there all the time. Go! Don't think, just go! You will love it.

We went to Aujord 'hui for our fifth wedding anniversary and had a wonderful time there. The service was perfect. I would rate the food only 9 out of 10 (we have eaten better french food elsewhere) but the service more than makes up for it.

Do bear in mind that this is a formal place so if you are looking for some place more casual or laid-back, I would recommend going elsewhere.

I stayed at the Four Seasons and decided to get a massage. I felt like a new person after Andrea gave me the best massage of my life. She really worked wonders. I've always been a little uncomfortable with the idea of being that vulnerable with a stranger, but Andrea made me feel completely at ease. She was professional as well as personable. After a long flight and stress from travel, seeing her changed the entire outlook of my trip. I plan on coming back to Boston just to unwind with a massage and relax.

This is an amazing restaurant, with very special service. My family has gone to Aujourd'hui for special occasions for over 15 years. If you have something special to celebrate, I highly recommend it. And definitely order a souffle for dessert - just remember to order it with your meal! Enjoy!

The first time I visited Aujord'hui was to celebrate my anniversary. It was the most elegant dining experience ever! The walk up to the dining room on the grand staircase and past the elegant piano set the mood for the evening. The waitstaff was attentive and discreet at the same time. We felt like we were the only couple in the room. The view of the commons at night was special and the food was superb! The presentation was gorgeous and every bite was delicious. We tried the tasting menu that was outlined by the chef that night and the wine pairings were exceptional. Definitely a first-class experience. I know it was pricey but well worth it!

I was there w/my wife for our anniversary. The food was very tasty and unique in a good way. It fits a 5 star restaurant. However, it's not just the food that makes it a great restaurant. It's the overall experience. There service was above everyone - from there effortless accomodation for my flower delivery to the non-intruding but attentive and detailed wait staff to their kind receptionist/host and friendly all around staff. The ambiance is very romantic. There's plenty of spaces between tables unlike any other Boston restaurants. If you can get over the hefty check, this is definitely one place that's worth trying.

I went there with my wife for our anniversary. Everything was absolutely perfect - great attentive service, wonderful food and great wine selection. Foie gras was absolutely perfect, best we've ever tried. Suffle (which needs to be ordered same time as the meal) was great. Atmosphere was very nice, and we were lucky to get a table next to the window, with the view on Boston Commons.

Overall I would highly recommend this place for fine dining and special (romantic) events.

We went here for our 25th Anniversary. We have eaten at many of the top restaurants in Boston, and across the country and this is the BEST!. Everything from the moment we walked in to the moment we left was perfect. The only thing negative was it was quite pricey, however worth every penny. I hardly ever write positive or negative accounts on anything, however I felt it my obligation to pass this on to anyone looking for that very special EVENT (meal). I would highly the lobster bisque for starters and the grand manier creme brulee for the ending. The entrees we had were fantastic. The wait staff was superb, they knew exactly when to offer service.
And for those cynics out there I am not the owner or an employee nor friends or relatives of anyone associated with this established. I am one pleasantly pleased former and future patron.

I am confused by several of the negative reviews. I have eaten at the Bristol Lounge over a dozen times. Sometimes with my wife, but most of the time with my wife and baby daughter. The staff and patrons are very accommodating. Most places this nice tend to be difficult places to bring children, but not the Bristol Lounge. The food is expensive, but you are paying a premium for great service and ambiance. Yes, there are places you can eat just as well for less, but you will not enjoy your meail as much as at the Bristol (especially if you have a young child - as I said, they are very accommodating).

As other reviewers have mentioned, the experience of Aujourd'hui is top-notch. The food is the best around, from the amuse bouche, right on through to the dessert. We had an amazing appetizer: fois gras burger with truffle french fries -- out of this world. Our entrees were delectable as well. The staff is what truly stands out about the restaurant. In addition to the unpretentious friendliness of everyone we encountered, multiple staff members knew and used our names, and also knew that we were celebrating our 1st anniversary (they asked us when we made our reservation if we were celebrating an occasion), and "congratulations" abounded. We also had a great table next to the window overlooking the garden. Expensive, yes, but everything about the night was wonderful, and it was money well spent for our special occasion.

OK so prices for some may mean this is a special evening out, but if you can swing it don't wait for a big event. We went last evening and had an incredibly delightful dining experience. Do try the 5 or 6 course tasting menu and if you enjoy wine, add the wine course. It was fantastic. Show just the least bit of interest in the wine pairings and you find yourself having an engaging conversation with the sommelier. The wait staff from the hostess to the busboy were so kind and almost everyone stopped to congratulate us on our special event (25 year anniversary). For all the years we've been enjoying fine dining in Boston I'm not sure why it took us so long to eat here. Oh, don't overlook The Bristol, their more casual restaurant. Had a terrific lunch there too!

When my wife told me were going to Aujourd'hui for our five-year anniversary (we rotate planning) I was mildly intrigued but in all honesty when the date arrived I felt like grabbing a pizza and a movie...but how grateful I am that I was the supportive husband! Aujourd'hui was the most fantastic dinning experiences I've ever had. The food was suburb (get the 6 course sampler). We dont drink, so I cant comment on the wine list. The food combinations and ingredients were brilliant, but the only thing better than the food was the service it was personal, unpretentious, and natural. As soon as we arrived they greeted us by name and ushered us right to our table. Knowing what I now know, I would take 3 hours at Aujourd'hui over a weekend in Provence.

I went for lunch because I heard the burgers were delicious. They were almost $18. and I ordered mine medium. The burger was served very rare and I had to send it back. It took a while for my 2nd burger to be served and it was pretty rare also. The other person I was dining with had to eat because we were already waiting almost an hour and his food was getting cold. I was disappointed.

Went to Aujourd'hui recently and had a phenomal experience. The tasting menu that I had was incredibly well executed and the wine pairing that went along with it were very well thought of. I hadn't been there in a few years and was very pleasantly surprised by their new renovation -- especially the new bar. I'm looking forward to returning soon.

and the wait for the table could be improved by offering a place to sit

My fiancee and I went for our 5 year anniversary and we really enjoyed ourselves. Overall I think that Aujourd'hui is worth going to simply for the 'experience.' The service is undoubtedly top-knotch and the intricate and beautifully designed interior generates an impressive and romantic atmosphere overlooking the public gardens. The window-seats are a must.

We each ordered a 6-course tasting which didn't leave much room for the scrumptious souffle but I would recommend one person ordering the tasting and the other ordering a la carte so that you can share in the variety. Personally I wasn't very impressed with the tasting but my fiancee really enjoyed it. The service and atmosphere, however, was like none other.

This is an outstanding hotel. How can you not like a hotel that overlooks the Public Gardens. It is conveniently located to downtown Boston. Being downtown it is very expensive. The food was great. The staff was tremendously helpful and friendly. They took the time to get something you needed. The rooms were nice and clean while housekeeping people were helpful.

The Bristol Lounge is so much more than just AMAZING food (I HIGHLY recommend The Bristol Burger, Tea and the Viennese Dessert Buffet!) The Bristol Lounge is about the "Total Dining Experience." Great Views of the Boston Public Gardens and the beautiful swan boats, people watching, tea with friends, drinks after work at the chic new bar, a cozy table by the fireplace on a cold winter night, friendly service....
What more could you possibly want out of a restaurant?

My wonderful boyfriend took me here for my birthday and it was fantastic. I had the fois gras for an appetizer and the duck for my entree. Both were perfectly prepared and presented. For dessert I had an incredible creme brulee with fresh fruit. Everything was simply wonderful. I would love to go back again and again, but the price is a bit steep. Definately a worthwhile splurge for a special occasion, though.

I came here for the "Green Monster" and I've been back at least once a week ever since. The service is so good and non-pretentious here. After the second visit I was already on a first name basis with a few of the bartenders. I don't eat here...the wasabi snacks and warm nuts are just enough!! So I can't review the food, but I am planning a visit with an English friend from Texas for high tea. Pricey, but worth it

This restaurant ranks right up there with Alain Ducasse in New York, and easily surpasses most, if not every, Boston restaurant in terms of quality of the menu, taste, service, and ambiance. The atmosphere was very old world-like making for an unbeatable romantic evening. The chef's seasonal tasting menu was immaculate, and the paired wines matched each dish perfectly. It took a little over 2 hours to finish dinner, yet was paced perfectly and made for great conversation. It didn't stop there, however, as their selection of dessert wines made choosing a bottle near impossible (until I noticed the Inniskillin ice wine, at which point the deal was done). I failed to mention anything about the service, but it can be summed up easily: their staff was knowledgeable, friendly, and prompt. We're planning our next trip as soon as their winter tasting menu is ready to go.

After what I had read on this city guide, I was so disappointed with most everything about the Bristol Lounge. The food was just mediocre and the prices were ridiculous. The service was pitiful. With all the great restaurants in Boston, this would be the last place that I would recommend!

If you have been hungering for that perfect evening out -- an elegant and relaxing atmosphere, professional, friendly and attentive service without attitude, delectible food and the dreamy atmosphere in which to enjoy it all -- it is time to ring the Four Seasons and make a reservation. Aujourd'hui takes you back to the days when an elegant dinner WAS the evening's entertainment. It was not hard to get a reservation (we called four or five days ahead) and when we arrived we were seated immediately. It seemed like we had a staff of thousands attending to us, and every one of them was engaging, polite and down-to-earth. We decided to get the "chef's tasting menu" and were treated to a parade of delightful dishes, topped off with their famous Grand Marnier Soufflé. Everyone should experience such heaven at least once in their lifetime. I cannot reccomend it highly enough.

Pros: Staff / Service, Food!!!!!, Overall Experience

Cons: I can't go every day

The service provided at this restaurant is top knotch. Every server is more than pleasant and extremely accomodating. They will explain every detail of what the meal includes, what flavor is over bearing and they make accurate reccommendations. The wine list is phenomenal. Some of the entree's are better than others. I would absolutely reccommend any of the rissotto's and/or duck dishes. Lobster is great, however, the other fish dishes are good but not outstanding and are a bit salty. The dessert's were presented nicely but were also average.Overall i would reccommend this restaurant because the service was excellent, the wine list extensive, and most dishes are great, but be prepared to spend 200+$$$

Disappointing for a $200 meal for 2. The food is good but not astounding. Our waiter, though very proud, managed to mess up our order.. The dinning room at the Ritz has a better decor and is more impressive overall.

I found my recent stay to be top notch all the way, and I have stayed in many of the top hotels around the country and the world. The room was large and comfortable, the food was *excellent*, and service in my experience was prompt and efficient. I agree with others that the staff here is more reserved than in other cities, but they certainly were not "cold" as described in other reviews. I guess muy only concenr was that the exercise room was small, but I didn't have ot wait for machines at 6 AM
;^)

This is definitely my favorite Boston hotel.

The Bristol Lounge is three places: 1. the standup bar, where "everybody knows your name," and the bartender (Ron in the evenings) can make friends with you in a second if you just talk to him .. very easy place to meet classy people; 2. a cocktail lounge with great appetizers and piano music, perfect for an after work or before dinner drink with a group of 4-8 BUT be aggressive in telling the waiter how often you want him to check back. They tend to leave you alone but are happy to give faster service if you ask for it. 3. A first class restaurant with a wonderful menu. The crabcakes and clam chowder are superb and the MOnday night meatloaf is the best I've ever tasted. If Ron is on the bar, ask for the "Oswald Martini" which is made with Tanqueray Ten gin and jalopeno stuffed olives!

My boyfriend took me there for are anniversary, and the food was amazing. I had the sirloin and he had the venison. It was so well prepared, and the service there is outstanding. Make sure you leave room for there amazing dessert! The only con was the noise from an adjoining room that was having a business meeting. It wasn't that crowded that we needed to sit that close. But overall it was a great experience

This is one of the top ten in the country, never mind BOSTON. Yes it's probably one of the most expensive in town. You can people watch with a window table over looking boylston st.. Also a great resturant in the rear of the lounge, late night dessert buffet that will make any sweet tooth smile

The Bristol's ambience is perfect for both formal and casual dining. It provides outstanding food and drink with service reminiscent of the storied elegant past when dining out was an experience to look forward to and to remember. Tables are spaced so you don't share your neighbor's conversation. In brief, it's the best!!

I've never been disappointed when I've come here. It's elegant, not stuffy, tasteful, not trendy, and polished, not brittle. I was there on a date last Friday, and we had a wonderful time. Our server (Trish?) was attentive without being smothering. We'd narrowed down our order to two entrees and a salad, but we both wanted each of them. Our server offered (without being asked) to split them and serve them as three separate courses. The presentations were perfect; they didn't just plate one dinner and slide half of it onto another plate. The food was delicious (especially the pasta with the tenderloin), the service was excellent, and there was music to boot (a pianist and bass). They also have a great dessert buffet on Friday and Saturday nights. It was the first time my date had been there, and he loved it. We had a great time!

The atmosphere was so comfortable, formal, but relaxing. I would definatlely suggest this place to anyone who whats excellent and elegant food without the stuffy atmosphere.
