The recently redecorated restaurant, affectionately known as The Kong, has a bit of a trashy reputation. But don't let that turn you away! The Kong has delicious food and fun drinks. The Scorpion Bowl is a drink that is not to be missed - just don't try to drink it all yourself. I love the crab rangoon and the scallion pancakes, as well as the mushu chicken. Can be a bit over-priced, but the service is fast and the food is delicious greasy Chinese.

Legendary

Scorpion Bowl. Mention those two words to any Harvard student or alum from the last 20 years and they'll know exactly what you are talking about.

I'm not sure I've ever eaten at the Hong Kong. I'm sure I have and it's probably just fine. But the big draw isn't the food it's the magical, mystical scorpion bowl -- a giant glass filled with some red alcoholic fruity substance and little plastic scorpions. Look around the Hong Kong and you'll see dozens of bowls usually with 2 or 3 straws sticking out of them (it's socially acceptable to share a scorpion bowl). Before you know it, you're well into your third or fourth scorpion bowl and suddenly the blaring music from the 3rd floor club is irresistable.

stinks

by Luke L. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 3,384

I do not recommend coming here. The place is quite large and very far from Harvard Square. It is about a 6 block walk. However, this does not matter because the food is terrible here.

The kind of food they serve is Chinese food. I tried the chow mein. It was not good at all. The portions they give you is pretty large, but the food is overly greasy.

There are not a lot of Chinese Food places in Harvard Square but the Hong Kong is not what you want.

The place also does not look nice but the prices are good.

Liveliest place in harvard square

by Carl W. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 3,316

Three levels: One is a chinese food restaurant, the second, a lively bar filled with Harvard girls, and the third is a sweaty, hip-hop club. It's lively and inexpensive.

Scorpion Bowls and a Fun Crowd

by Jennette M. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 3,869

Well the food here isn't very good. It's not terrible or anything. Frankly, after you have four Scorpion Bowls, it's downright delicious! And the Scorpion Bowls are gooood, which means they get you really, really hammered. It's always crowded and it's a fun, diverse clientele. It's the perfect birthday place! They also have a dance floor that's pretty fun.

Decent place

by E T. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 11,800

This is a nice place to hang out with some friends, even meet some new people too. There is good entertainment and the drinks are good too. I would say this is a nice place to go on Thursday nights. :) Just to relax and hang out. Dress casually.

3 in 1!

by Sandra C. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 5,876

Bar, dance club, and restaurant all in one. I haven't eaten at the restaurant in the first floor, but I love the scorpion bowls. The bar and club floors (2nd and 3rd floor) are kind of ghetto with lots of sketchy guys lined along the wall watching the girls. But, this place is really close to everything and has something for everyone, so it's easy to get a big group to go together. The music was fun and if you've got a group, it can be a blast.
