Much of the food served at AmChi is locally grown on Mr. Chang's farm nearby. We support local agriculture and that's a great reason to try this place.
The restaurant sits on a corner and is full of light. Casual atmosphere with couples, family dining, and lots of college professors, it seems. AmChi enjoys a steady stream of business, and my guess is it's mostly locals.
The hot and sour soup is a highlight. I tend to eat simply at Chinese restaurants (having been to Taiwan, nothing in America compares anyway) and I enjoy the brown rice and Chinese greens with shrimp. My boyfriend likes the egg foo young but it is way too much for any one person to eat.
Service is prompt; the staff is Chinese and some don't speak much English but they get the job done. We go here at least once a month and have never been disappointed.

NOTE: I am biased because I am used to Chinese food from Boston.
You don't get a lot of food for your dollar here. The service is congenial, but serve time is definitely not quick. The quality of the food is mediocre at best; I've had better Chinese food in Boston prepared in half the time and at 3/4 the price. Out in Amherst, however, good Chinese food is hard to come by; Amherst Chinese Food gets a 3-star rating only because of its lack of competition.
