Did you ever imagine a New England "Currier and Ives" evening in the snow in the middle of winter....so cozy inside with huge 10' fireplaces and home made mead, heated with a hot poker from the fire...just for your warmth. A huge roast spinning in the fire place open hearth...and a caldron pot full of homemade clam chowder, all the ingreedients added by the dinners themselves with the guideance of the chef. Meanwhile there is a woman in 1600 garb making and baking an apple crisp from scratch. Baked in the oven in the fireplace.

Then to top that....a sleigh ride ...with a team of beauful horses. over the hill and dale...omg what an experience.

If you sign up early for the holiday feast...even better.

The Salem Cross Inn was a home and Inn in the 1600s and is still authentic...it was the site of an american native attack on pioneers and there was a slaughter of the new comers...only a few survivers. But that's another story...they will tell you all about it.

Also I have done oil paintings there on the lawn in the gardens...they invite you to paint there...it's so beautiful in the Summer....many weddings for as long as it has existed. Also fresh flower and veggie herb garden ....they use daily in the authentic food selections. A Great Family experience...for historic and fun views.

I went here for a fireplace feast for the first time and after hearing how great it was and how good the food is, I would have to say I was a little disappointed. It wasnt really wasnt what I expected. The food was ok. The good parts was watching the cooks roast the meat over the open fire and watching everyone help out making the fish chowder. The hayrides were fun too.

Delightful retreat located in a beautiful country setting in West Brookfield. The restaurant has a comfortable and charming historic decor. Spacious, yet cozy. Go there for a reasonably priced lunch or for full fireplace feast. Listed in National Register of Historic Places. A must experience!
