I have to agree with John F. I??ve shopped at the store, as well as similar places, and I have to say that their food, prices and service are no better, if not inferior, to other stores. I also have heard how they treat their employees. It??s no wonder they??re unfriendly and unhelpful, as they??re clearly not happy working there. Hence, the high turnover. I??m sticking with Whole Foods because of the location, as well as the above reasons.

I have been a frequent customer of Roots over the past several years solely because of its location. The selection is well thought out, however the pricing is obscene. Trader Joe's, My Organic Market, David's and sometimes even Giant can beat almost any price at Roots Market. The prepared foods are frequently tasty, but stay away from the sushi and sashimi which is completely inconsistent in quality. There should be a revolving door installed for the employees as it appears they are constantly leaving. Most of the employees are exceptionally unfriendly and unhelpful. Try walking around the store with that "I need help look" in your eye and see how long before someone asks to help you. The employees at Trader Joe's and My Organic Market are exceptionally friendly and helpful. Maybe the owner and management should get a job at Trader Joe's or My Organic Market to understand how to hire friendly employees, train them and pay them well so they stay. If Roots didn't have to continually train new employees, then maybe they could reduce the prices, improve customer service and run a better operation. Very disappointing. Hopefully, they will go out of business soon and be replaced by a better operator.

I was delighted to stumble upon this store while house-hunting in the area. Looking forward to being a regular customer after moving into the area. They also carry Organic Valley chocolate soy milk which I can't find anywhere in Virginia! Only complaint is no meat and fish counter. I hope they expand to include these!

Great selection of whole foods, including many dietary needs like diabetics or gluten intolerant. Prices are comparable to a regular grocery store. The seminars they do are really nice and helpful!

My only complaint about Roots Market is too far from my house to go every week! They have a wonderful, fresh produce section that is filled with everything you might want, as well as some you may have never heard of! The bulk food section contains a nice variety of grains, nuts, seeds, sweets, and more. You will find a large selection of vegan friendly foods and substitutes, as well as natural meat products. Roots Market also carries an array of gourmet foods, prepared meals, and a fresh salad bar. Shoppers will also find a huge selection of health and beauty products, herbs, medicines, books, frozon foods, and packaged goods. My favorite part of the store is the back corner where you can find things that have been marked down due to slight package damage or nearby expiration dates. I have been able to buy yummy treats for cheap thanks to the discount corner!

Roots Market is a welcome addition to the Howard County health food scene. They have distinguished themselves by carrying products that are not available at other health food stores -- such as DeLand Bakery millet products, and Trickling Springs Creamery BOTTLED (yep, glass!) milk products. They also carry a brand of Greek yogurt I haven't seen anywhere else. It is smooth, not bitter/tangy like American yogurts.

Roots has also expanded, launching a natural home store (Nest), a natural pet store (Bark) and an organic restaurant (Great Sage)... none of which I have had the opportunity to visit yet, and all of which I hope to review separately at a later date.

Roots is a locally owned business that has things you can't find elsewhere. Check them out!
