My husband and I own a restaurant and we exclusively shop here. Even w/ our standards, we really like the fish and meat selection. The snow crab and king crab which occasionally go on sale are no overly salted so it's a great meal at home steamed w/ veggies. The produce selection in the summer has portions which come directly from nearby farms. I don't have the time to shop at a farmer's market because I have two young children, so this is the next best thing. Like the market district brand and the organic selection for eggs and milk is wonderful. The fuel perks program is such a wonderful plus too. My only regret is that we will be moving away to montgomery county in a few months and they don't have it down there. One can always pray...
My husband and I pretty much exclusively shop at Giant Eagle. I've found their prices and selection to far exceed any of the other grocery stores in Frederick. I also love their Market District brand-excellent value while also giving you a little taste of gourmet! They also have a great natural/organic section, which is important to my husband and myself, as there are a few grocery items that we ONLY buy organic (ie, milk, eggs). The Rte 40 store is laid out a little better I think and has a better selection, while I've found the employees at the 7th Street store to be MUCH more pleasant. We usually end up at the Rte 40 store though, the personal shopper really cant be beat as far as convienence and making sure you stick to your budget. Finally, there's the Fuel Perks program. For every $50 you spend in groceries, you get 20 cents off gas at GetGo. There is a GetGo within blocks of each of their stores. I can't begin to describe how much this program was appreciated over the summer with soaring gas prices, and even now with the prices beginning to fall again. We have saved quite a bit on gas this year. I don't think I will ever shop another grocery store, save maybe Common Market.
This store is known for it's great sale prices. The regular prices are a bit high so I try to avoid it unless there is a great sale. They do double coupons so that helps, also. They used to have a great promotion where they mailed out a coupon book to all cardholders but they stopped doing that. It's too bad because that guaranteed that I'd go at least once a month.
We moved to Frederick about 2 years ago so had to find a new place to shop for groceries. We tried the local Weis and the local Food Lion and really didn't like them. Then we found Giant Eagle ! Walked inside and the store is HUGE. My husband thought it looked almost Costco sized inside. The produce dept. is first through the doors. A vast selection and everything is really fresh. They have a large Organic/Natural/Vegetarian section of foods , even frozen foods. The meat selection is great and the butchers there will get you anything you may need from the back if they have it and the fresh seafood selection is awesome as well. The store is set up so it's easy to find everything with milk and bread close to the checkouts.Everyone is really helpful there and there are always employees available around the store if you need that help. They even have self-checkout lanes if you don't want to hassle with checkers. They also have a great florist inside as well as a pharmacy and they are open 24 hours a day , which is very helpful. They double coupons up to .99 cents and always have terrific buy one get one sales or 10 for $10 sales !
