I read the reviews that are already posted and I can't really add anything that hasn't already been said. This animal hospital is great. The vets and the other staff are friendly and caring and I feel very confident taking my cats there. It's so nice to be able to call and actually speak with the vet. Thanks everyone I really appreciate everything you've done for my little darlings!

The review titled "MONEY HUNGRY" was about EASTERN DOG AND CAT HOSPITAL NOT ESSEX-MIDDLE RIVER VETERINARY CENTER. It seems sometimes people get these hospitals confused.

We took our 12 year old dog to see why she stopped eating and had terrible breath. They ran a blood test and then suggested a series of X-Rays after a Barium solution was fed to her. They kept her overnight and the next day we were told they could not find anything wrong. The then suggested we take her to the facility on Cromwell Bridge road since they had Ultra Sound equipment.. Again she was kept overnight and were told they could not find anything wrong and suggested exploratory surgery. By now we had spent well over $3,000 and didn't;t know what else we could do since she would not eat and was losing weight. Then a friend told us about the Pulaski Veterinary Clinic on route 40 and how well they diagnose problems. Sure enough after Dr Angela DeRosa ran a blood test, we were told that Sadie our dog had chronic kidney failure. Sadie was out on antibiotics and we were shown how to administer 250 ML Ringers Lactate 3 times a week. Sadie showed some improvement but it was too late since we had lost so much time with the Eastern Dog and Cat Hospital. Unfortunately on July 5, 2006 we had to have her put to sleep. The Eastern Dog and Cat facility seemed to be partners with the Cromwell Bridge Road clinic since they too our money but with no results.

Essex dog and Cat hospital is one of the nicer vet clinics around. It was recently relocated into a brand new building that is spacious, clean, and very modernized. The waiting area is spacious - which can be a problem at some veternarian offices, because sometimes there isn't enough space to keep more aggressive animals away from smaller animals, or the dogs away from the cats. It doesn't smell like animals the way some other local vet offices do. All the veternarians who work there are very friendly and helpful. Dr. O'Connell is one of my favorites, he always explains througholy what he is doing, and he is very laid back and calm. He takes measures to help keep the bill down.
The only complaint that I have is that they do not accept the spay/nueter certificates from the human society that cost $45-55 to have your animal fixed. I ended up paying the full price to have my female cat spayed, which was around $150. Still not too bad considering it included shots.
I also had a male cat who needed to have surgery on a blocked urinary tract. We were allowed to visit him for as long as we wanted whenever we wanted, and the bill for his operations ended up being under the estimate. I reccomend this vet.

PROS: Clean and friendly
CONS: Sometimes more expensive than other area vets.

This place did a great job of conducting a operation on my dog. It was tough to deal with maybe losing my dog as a result of the surgery , but this place staff is top notch and most importantly they care about you and your pet.

This is one of the vets that seem to truely care about your animal. They are always very friendly and have reasonable prices. They allow you to purchase flea medication without having to make an appointment.

PROS: Good vet
CONS: Busy

This is an excellent place to take your animals. They are very friendly and out going. They have the latest equipment. reasonable prices, and great hours. Two years ago when my dog was sick the vet stayed all night with her and even gave her mouth to mouth trying to save her. When she did pass away the vet called my personally and spoke to me for over 1/2 hour while I cried. They are just so caring.

Essex Dog and Cat Hospital is a great place to take your pets. The staff is caring and kind. The prices are reasonable. The whole place is very clean. Dr. Zulty is our vet, and he LOVES pets. He'll listen, answer questions, and explain everything that is being done. There is never a very long wait. If you are looking for a vet, come here.
