We celebrated Cinco de Mayo at El Salto and boy was it a disappointment. To start, the service was horrible. Our waiter kept disappearing for increments of 20 minutes or so. We ordered Margaritas, which we thought would be the special as it was Cinco de Mayo, but as it turned out, were not. We paid $5 for each Margarita which tasted as though they were made from a watered down mix. We were shocked when the Margaritas arrived and we were given extremely small glasses whereas everyone else in the restaurant was given huge goblets. When we questioned the waiter, we were told they ordered the Jumbo Margarita and we hadn't. Funny, the menu only listed one size and price and he, the waiter, didn't ask us what size we wanted when we ordered. I figured he was out of the goblets and just did what was easiest for him. Funny, our check didn't reflect the difference in size. We paid exactly what the others who received the goblets paid. Other members of our party ordered soft drinks which were never refilled because our waiter was taking a siesta I'm guessing? After a rather extensive time had passed from ordering, the waiter arrived with a basket of chips and "salsa." The salsa was in a mini caraffe and was liquidy like a tomato based hot sauce rather than a salsa. What a mess when the kids got a hold of it. The liquid salsa just ran off their chips and right onto their shirts. After that fiasco, the food finally arrived, which only added to our disappointed. The portions were small (one of our guests thought he may have mistakenly ordered from the appetizer menu but was disppointed to learn that this was in fact his entree.) We figured that what the food lacked in size, it would make up in flavor. WRONG AGAIN! Everyone in our party rated this the worst Mexican food they had ever eaten. (We know Mexican as we've all been to Mexico several times.)I was the only one who thought some of the food was mediocre at best. My burrito, though the size of a soft taco, had some decent flavor but the Chili Rellenos were horrible. The cheese stuffed inside tasted like a slice of white Kraft American cheese. Hardly authentic Mexican. Yuck! We won't be visiting this restaurant again. One of our dinner companions said it best when he stated, "I've had better food at Taco Bell." Actually, most of it tasted like it was from Taco Bell.
