Ratings_icons El Salto Mexican Restaurant is Excellent - We'll return

Deborah B.

Went there tonight for the first time at the recommendation of a friend. The service was good. We weren't impressed with the salsa that came with the chips, but when we asked for something spicier, they brought us the good stuff! The margarita I had was very good - all of our food was excellent and fairly authentic. I had the burrito/chile relleno/beans & rice combo and my husband had the burrito Mexicano. We definitely plan to go there again.

I've been eating at El Salto for so many years! The service has never been slow and has always been very friendly and welcoming. They know my order by heart and it's a great place for me to practice my Spanish! This place is a great choice-- Tuesday is Margarita day and they have lunch specials from 11p-2:30p!!!

Ratings_icons Awful and Not Authentic!

Susan W.

I"ve been to Mexico and I know what real Mexican food tastes like. The food they make is watered down and cheap. They use pureed tomotaes from a can and use that for there tortilla dip (That's disgusting). When I ordered a tacos, they gave me beef tacos, which tasted like cat or dog food. Trust me, they are not authentic. If you do not believe me, please visit Mexico and you'll understand what I mean.

Ratings_icons A great place for a low-key tasty meal

El Salto is the perfect place if you're looking for a laid-back evening with appetizing food and strong margaritas. Don't head to this family-style restaurant expecting a generic, Don Pablo's-esque experience. The service is good and friendly, the food is hot and flavorful, and the drinks are strong and plentiful. You can wear whatever you want and truly relax at this place. My final words - if you want a jumbo margarita, just order one.

Ratings_icons What a disappointment!

We celebrated Cinco de Mayo at El Salto and boy was it a disappointment. To start, the service was horrible. Our waiter kept disappearing for increments of 20 minutes or so. We ordered Margaritas, which we thought would be the special as it was Cinco de Mayo, but as it turned out, were not. We paid $5 for each Margarita which tasted as though they were made from a watered down mix. We were shocked when the Margaritas arrived and we were given extremely small glasses whereas everyone else in the restaurant was given huge goblets. When we questioned the waiter, we were told they ordered the Jumbo Margarita and we hadn't. Funny, the menu only listed one size and price and he, the waiter, didn't ask us what size we wanted when we ordered. I figured he was out of the goblets and just did what was easiest for him. Funny, our check didn't reflect the difference in size. We paid exactly what the others who received the goblets paid. Other members of our party ordered soft drinks which were never refilled because our waiter was taking a siesta I'm guessing? After a rather extensive time had passed from ordering, the waiter arrived with a basket of chips and "salsa." The salsa was in a mini caraffe and was liquidy like a tomato based hot sauce rather than a salsa. What a mess when the kids got a hold of it. The liquid salsa just ran off their chips and right onto their shirts. After that fiasco, the food finally arrived, which only added to our disappointed. The portions were small (one of our guests thought he may have mistakenly ordered from the appetizer menu but was disppointed to learn that this was in fact his entree.) We figured that what the food lacked in size, it would make up in flavor. WRONG AGAIN! Everyone in our party rated this the worst Mexican food they had ever eaten. (We know Mexican as we've all been to Mexico several times.)I was the only one who thought some of the food was mediocre at best. My burrito, though the size of a soft taco, had some decent flavor but the Chili Rellenos were horrible. The cheese stuffed inside tasted like a slice of white Kraft American cheese. Hardly authentic Mexican. Yuck! We won't be visiting this restaurant again. One of our dinner companions said it best when he stated, "I've had better food at Taco Bell." Actually, most of it tasted like it was from Taco Bell.

Everything we ordered was awesome!! The food was ample and fresh. I've always enjoyed everything I've ordered...The menu is extensive, yet if you can not find what you would want they will make almost anything to order. The lunch combos are very inexpensive! The service is so quick, you easily can stop by on your lunch hour.

This family owned and run mexican resturant is a great find. The service is always fast and good. The food is good made fresh. They serve the salsa in a craft, so you never run out. The prices can't be beat either. Its a fun atmosphere as well. Even if the place is packed you wont wait long, just be sure to write your name on the list by the door.

PROS: Good food, great prices.

It's a pretty nice restaurant, and I've never been disappointed. Atmosphere is a pretty typical family friendly place, it's not big but not small. I really enjoy the food. First off, they serve chips and salsa which are pretty tasty. The menu is pretty extensive. There are about 10 or 15 basic items, but you order some combination of these items, and there are pages of these combinations listed, as well as another page of specialties. The plates come out sizzling hot, which is always a treat. This is more of the ground beef genre of Mexican than the steak genre.
