We were visiting Baltimore and my two sons wanted to go to this bar to see a band they were familiar with (Past Lives/Thermals) We had a great time. Once inside it was great. Drinks for dad not too expensive and I felt safe and we enjoyed a couple hours listening to music (I got a seat on the balcony overlooking stage where sound was not so overwhelming). So many different people and I actually saw 5 or 6 people close to my age. I don't know exactly what neighborhood we were in but Johns Hopkins U was a couple blocks away as I was informed by 3 students from JHU.

Pros: Felt safe inside. Friendly. Good groups playing.

I love this bar. This was my favorite hangout when I lived in Baltimore. They book great shows and support local musicians. The owner is very nice also. Great underground scene.

Friends brought us to Otto's when we were visiting Baltimore. They had a jazz band there the night we visited. There are 2 sections - an upstairs and a down stairs. We were upstairs. Generous drinks and good hot munchies. We'll definitely visit again.

The Ottobar is my favorite place in Baltimore to see live music. Not to big, not to small, short or tall you can see from anywhere in the venue. A great place to see all the happening acts before they get "too big". Ottobar also brings some great bands into town that may otherwise just pass us by. Centrally located on Howard St, I am always happy to see a band is listed to play Ottobar and not one the "bigger" venues downtown, where parking is harder and admission is usually much higher. I hope Ottobar stays around for a long time.

Good place to hear more types of bands, I have seen acts here from acoustic one person shows to hardcore shows and even burlesque shows. There is always something going on here and often times they show free movies on certain days.

The Ottobar is one of the only places to see live music in Baltimore. I've seen some The Kelly Bell Band and other local bands here. The acoustics are great.

The Ottobar runs the gamut of club material, ranging in scope from rap/hiphop artists to local grunge. The main level holds around 600 patrons and offers good views of the stage from nearly everywhere. There is a bar in the back, which is by and large standard, but has exceptional service.

Upstairs is it's own thing, as the leather couchs, pinball machines, and pool tables would tell you, if able to speak. This is a veritable who's who of local folk, and some of the artist-est of the artsy drag by the Ottobar for a brew. Atmosphere is comfortable, no matter who you are. Prices are good, and cover charges for the downstairs are usually reasonable.

The old Ottobar kicked ass, but the newer one is, miraculously, even cooler. They have great shows and I always have a lot of fun when I go. I especially recommend the monthly "underground" dance party night.

Well, the title says it...the Ottobar moved a few months back and it's no longer a 'dark-alley bar'. It's much bigger and nicer than the old Ottobar, but still cheap and great for live music! Also, the monthly Brit-pop dance night is a can't miss!

Pros: Inexpensive, Lots of free parking, Lots of dancing

Cons: N'borhood not so good, Usually 18+
