Before I went here, I hadn't had fondue since the 70's. This was a fun experience and the food is excellent. The restaurant is beautiful. Great romantic ambiance. Perfect for date night.

I was very excited about visiting this restaurant because of the unique idea of a fondue restaurant and because I had heard good things about it. First the restaurant itself was old and rundown. There was a funny smell when I walked in but I ignored it thinking we were still in for a good experience. Overall the idea of it is good, but the food was not. Everything seemed to be very low quality. The flatware and dishes were very old and not very clean. The idea of pewter (or whatever it was) was probably good a long time ago, but everything looked old and cheap. The booths weren't romantic at all. I felt like I was eating at any low budget chain. The bread cubes were served with the cheese course were stale, there were a few carrots, celery, cauliflower and apples. Really low budget veggies. Some of the cuts of meat served with the entree were cheap and overseasoned with salt. We were excited about the chocolate dessert, but the chocolate itself was runny and of very low quality with a bad taste. The items for dipping also seemed low quality and didn't taste very good. Only the very few strawberries were edible and I just put a bit of sugar on them because I couldn't eat the chocolate. We paid over $100 for really crappy food. The week before we went to Fogo de Chao and had excellent food of great quality and freshness for about the same price. I would NEVER recommend the Towson Melting Pot!

Wow, the ambiance is fantastic, very secluded tables, very dark and intimate; a great date place!
The cheese fondue (served first as an appetizer) is the best part, food-wise; many choices, all de-lish, and best price for the quality.
The main course is a little too much for many people, as you are served RAW meat and veggies. It's one thing to watch a professional cook chicken in front of you, but it's another to let people handle it themselves---ick, salmonell city!
We got sweet fondue at the end, and it was nothing special...too sweet almost, but a great selection of dipping items.
FANTASTIC wine selection! Melting Po is also in Columbia (near the mall) and Annapolis.

My boyfriend and I love this restaurant, it's the first place we consider for celebrating special occassions (New Year's here is a lot of fun, we've done it twice!) or when we just want to have a nice dinner out.

You can get by on the cheap if you just do a cheese fondue, but the full courses are great. The Fondue for Two includes a cheese fondue, one of their salads (the California is my favorite), a full plate of meats, seafood, and veggies in your choice of cooking style, and of course, dessert! Meats and seafood are always FRESH, which is extremely important. Don't skip dessert, you will be missing out. I highly recommend the Turtle fondue with milk chocolate, caramel, and walnuts, or you can create your own.

The atmosphere is great and suits a quiet dinner for two or a night out with lots of friends.

The service is sometimes a little slow if you're there on a weekend, but for the most part the servers are great. Always make a reservation, as the wait can be as long as 90 min. even on a weeknight.

PROS: great food, nice atmosphere, extensive wine list
CONS: long waits if you dont have a reservation

I really like this place. The cheese and desert fondues are quite nice. You can eat fairly cheap if you skip the entree course. Totally worth checking out.

For those who have not been to The Melting Pot yet, I suggest going! This restaurant is fondue style for every course(with the exception of the salads) which can be appetizer, main, and dessert. The cheese appetizer fondue was my favorite course of the meal. It was a combo of cheese, bacon, and some type of wine...delicious! I didn't want to go on to the main course because it was so good, however when I did it was also delicious. The service is also superb. The servers are very polite as well as friendly since they are preparing the fondue for awhile at your table. They will strike up a conversation with their customers. I highly recommend The Melting Pot. It is a great setting for a first date, double date, or any occasion because the atmosphere produces a lot of conversation!

The Melting Pot has great private booths, excellent service, and very good food. It is pricey, but dinner lasts a long time and is a real experience, so I think it's still a good value. There's a greater variety of food than I expected, not being familiar with fondue. The dessert fondue is really unique. Great place for a date!

Well, the review prior to mine was pretty accurate, but until you understand the concept of Melting Pot, you won't fully understand their review. Provided you're getting the full 4 course meal, here's how it works. You choose a cheese fondue, which is made tableside and served with apples, bread, and veggies to dip (this is my favorite part of the meal, and the Swiss is one of my favorite foods period). Then you have a salad (delicious). Then you get your main course, which is served raw, and you cook it in the fondue pot in either broth, oil, or some third thing that I've never had, which costs extra. Many dipping sauces come with it. (I usually get either the steak or a platter of some kind, and it's always very very good quality meat) Vegetables are also served with the entree, and those are great. Then finally there's the chocolate fondue dessert. There are many varieties, and I always try something different. It comes with a platter of things to dip, and for most people (especially the females in my experience), this is the best part of the meal.

The other review mentioned that this place is a little slow. Well, I won't disagree, but I think that's part of the deal with this place... it isn't just a dinner. It's an event. I highly recommend, it's been one of my favorite restaurants for years.

The Melting Pot, located in Towson, Maryland, fits right in to this busy college town with skyrocketing property values. Reservations are required for this restaurant, and it is vegetarian friendly. A four course meal for two will cost $80-$115 including tip, depending on the drinks ordered. This location is also popular for just dessert, which will run about $30 per pair. While the food here is excellent and the servers are friendly, the service at this Melting Pot location is a bit slower than at the Chestnut Hill, DE and Wilmington, DE locations. The bathroom is also a bit messy, and the quarters are a bit more cramped. Still, this is a classy restaurant and is highly recommended.

PROS: Excellent food, vegetarian friendly
CONS: Expensive, cramped, slow service

My husband and I went to the Melting Pot for our 5th anniversary and it was good. We decided to get the feast
For the Cheese fondue we got the Mexican one a safe choice for us but it was just too good
Than for the salad I got the raspberry and I loved it
For the main course we got the one that had the Red wine in it and OMG it was the best tasting thing ever. The dips helped to enhance the flavor of everything. Lastly the desert, we got the Dark and the White, (Ying and Yang) we couldnt eat the desert but we tasted it and it was good too.
There was a lot of food, so the next time we go we will only get the dinner and get the desert a different time, but for the first time it was very worth it.

This is a fun and entertaining restaurant, that would also be great for a first date. I would not consider this to be a romantic restaurant at all. The staff is fun and friendly- perfect for the melting pot, but not quiet, professional, and relaxing as you should expect in a romantic/ fine dining restaurant.

Not only is the food good, but the ambience is to die for. Great for a couple. Can be tricky with more than 2 as you have to all decide on the fondues you want to eat equally. Only one burner to a party of 2 or 4, so everyone must agree! But food is to die for. Very unique experience.

For a one-stop romantic dinner, the Melting Pot is the place you want. You'll spend three hours eating some of the best food in this fondu-style restaurant. The salsa cheese appetizer is a must, any entree is delish, and for desert, the Bailey's Irish Cream chocolate will send you home with pleasant dreams!
