Joe's is amazing! I'm a total newbie, and walked in clueless about what I needed. The staff in Fells walked me through the whole process - just really kind and helpful - and got me exactly the right bike. My friends told me I got a pretty good deal, too! Then, two weeks later, my boyfriend (who's the one who's getting me into cycling in the first place) tried out the other store (Mt. W). He had always gotten his gear elsewhere, but he's a total convert now. Helpful staff, great selection, really cool vibe. I'm a fan!

Pro- Local shop, knowledgeable staffs

Con- Expensive, expect to pay MSRP, Doesn't honor their own return policy! Pay with credit card if you can, once cash in their hand it will be hard press to get it back!

Stopped by Joe's few days ago (Sister shop of Mt. Washington Bike) with a friend. He is new to MTB, and was on the market for a pair of clip-in, and shoes. The gentleman at the shop was very helpful, and friendly during the sale, and even mounted the cleats onto the shoes for him.
Later that afternoon, my friend changed his mind, was told he could not return the shoes once the cleats has been installed and it might leave some "markings" if they remove the cleats! In my 15 years of biking, this is the most off the wall excuse I ever heard. Advised my friend to give Mt. Washington a try, hoping they have more common sense... after 30 mins of heated debates, they ended up took the shoes back, and will only give him a store credit. Still did not honor their own 45 days refund-if-new return policy.
Much as I want to support my local business, and the little guys, but with experience like this make me NOT EVER AGAIN step my foot, or recommending them to anyone!!! BTW- few of us caught the 29er fever, and are on the market for few Fisher Paragons.. Joe, if you are reading this, sorry, it's your loss. Keep running the business this way in today's economy, you will be out-of business in 3 years.

They held a great seminar for women to learn to repair their own bikes. It was great. Joe and his wife are great, but the other staff is as unfriendly as the previous reviews state. The work is good and the cost is decent so I still recommend it.

I had my lthree wheeler bike repaired at Joe's....The staff is a bit quiet but I was serviced on time and not overcharged. Joe's DX the issue without trying to rip me off. When I picked up my bike they had done more than expected.....air in tires, etc. Thanks to the serivce I will go back to further establish the relationship..

I had a lot of trouble (due to horrible Balto roads) with my fixie commuter bike. they hooked me up with a Surly frame on the cheap when the top tube of the [other brand] gave up the ghost. super service on my Serotta, really caring, smart shop staff. This may not be the place if you want an exotic thing (how many places really specialize in folding bikes) or if you want, say, $100 off on a cannondale. they are pretty smart with fitting -- clearly care a lot. I moved, but I recommend them to people who care about their ride.

Went to the Mount Washington Bike Shop to check out bikes and could not believe the prices. I obviously did not buy anything here! I had heard good thingss about the service department, so perhaps I may go back if I had a problem wth the bike I end up buying elsewhere.
